Is there any difference between JM's linacoustic and rigid fiberglass panels such as OC 703 or JM 814 when building a dedicated HT? If so, which is better to use for absorption behind a screen wall and in the room itself?

Thanks,

Allan

Very little difference, except in all but the most critical situations (where a detailed acoustical simulation has been done, and shows that you may be on the hairy edge with some materials). All these are at or near 3pcf, which makes them acoustically nearly identical. The stuff in rolls is generally cheaper. Go with whatever you can buy locally at the lowest price.

More than you ever wanted to know. Bob Gold's excellent summary:

Thanks gentlemen...

As always a wealth of information on this site. I will read up on the link that Big provided. Sounds like linacoustic may be the way for me to go as I am dealing with a long, narrow room ( dry walled dimensions will be 20'8" by 10'7") and would like to conserve as much width as possible. I'm hoping to do a 100-106" screen so I will need the width if I want to do any kind of proscenium.

For our room, I used rigid panels. Our room is something like 14' x 30' and those 4x8 sections were easy to install. I used Certainteed Ultraduct Gold as seen in the bobgolds link posted by BIGmouthinDC

What does the bolded portion mean?
