View Full Version : Best Flat Panel for Xbox

Hi, When it comes to choosing a flat panel TV for HDTV I've developed a preference for Plasma's over LCDs; to me the LCDs don't handle motion (sports, etc.) as well as the Plasmas.

But setting aside HDTV sources (satellite, etc.), if you were going to purchase a 40-42" flat panel just for Xbox, would you go with a Plasma or would you prefer a LCD?

Some other questions:

1. Any concern about Plasma burn-in, or is that a thing of the past? (this would be used by kids - they might not turn off games, etc.)

2. Which would give a better picture for Xbox, LCD or Plasma?

3. I like Pansonic Plasmas, but is there any concern on the 37" and 42" models that the native resolution is 1024 x 720 (instead of 1366 x 768) - when it comes to games?

4. Any particular brands/models you (either Plasma or LCD) that you like best for Xbox?

Thanks, Yada

I can't answer your resolution question, but I would get a Plasma hands-down. LCDs cannot handle motion near as well as Plasmas can. Even the best LCDs blur more than the current Plasma sets. You won't get better blacks on an LCD either.

As for as image retention goes, after the suggested 100 hour break in period, you may see a slight after image on the screen. Health bars, ammo meters...ect...tend to stay static for long periods of time, leaving behind a very faint image. All plasmas have them. However, after switching games or watching a movie for about 10 minutes they go away. I wouldn't consider it to be a problem...just remember that plasmas are more delicate than LCDs...so don't leave your console on paused overnight.

I just couldn't stand the black levels on lcd screens. It's more of a glowing grey than black especially for the westinghouse models. That's the major reason why I went with plasma. I'm not really that sensitive to motion blur so that wasn't my deal breaker.

I agree. I have both and the black level/shadow detail is far more of a problem than motion blur with LCD.

Plasma is the way to go.

I own SONY 46XBR3 LCD and the only thing that comes close to it is the Pioneer Elite Plasma which costs 2K more.

Yeah those xbr sets are awsome but who wants to pay that price?? If this is what you are willing to pay then get a front projector instead!

Fujitsu Plasma gets my vote. Its hard to discribe, but you appreciate the obvious differences it offers over any other plasma on the market in my opinion.

I'm a Panasonic plasma owner myself, and if I had to get another flat pannel I'd go with another panny, (or maybe) pioneer plasma. I'm loving the picture quality, which is MUCH better than my Sharp Aquos LCD.

If you're going to go BIG then I'd suggest possibly plunking down the extra change, or wait, for a 1080p set. I can't wait for those 1080p plasmas to drop in price. The future will be nice.
