invadergir 03-02-07, 01:04 AM I believe that Fox had announced that both Prison Break and 24 were to make an appearance. Plus LOST could be another one down the pipes as well
edvedder 03-02-07, 01:13 AM hopefully Smallville
carnivale880 03-02-07, 01:34 AM there were alot of rumors about Lost several months ago...it seems as though Lost will come its just a matter of when..probably summer or fall with the season 3 release...also fox initally touted The X-Files, Simpsons and Family Guy when they first joined the blu ray band wagon..hopefully this means these shows will be in the works at some point and get the high def treatment...Lost though is the absolute gem for my money..it looks incredible on abc hd i cant imagine what a great blu ray transfer will show.
still waiting for a release of "The Wonder Years"
darkjedi664 03-02-07, 08:19 AM Band of Brothers is coming to Blu-Ray soon.
sethhobrin 03-02-07, 01:35 PM I would donate my left nut if they would release SG1 season 1 - 10 on Blu ray in HD!
Lion's Gate also announced The Dead Zone series at CES as well.
aviators99 03-02-07, 02:58 PM Band of Brothers is coming to Blu-Ray soon.
Didn't know this. Can you point me to a source?
Also, Sopranos (Season 6.1) is already out.
ABC is planning to do a comedy series based on the Geico's pitchmen ...the lovable cavemen. I hope this will come on Blu-ray. :)

That sounds cool, but it might be overkill. I think the Cavemen are hilarious is small doses like the commercials.

divianb 03-03-07, 01:18 AM still waiting for a release of "The Wonder Years"
We are all are waiting for the SD version still.
I do not think this will look great in HD, but at least SD will be fine.
I do not know how long it will take for the distribution company to fix the situation with the music royalties.
The music is very important in a show like this one and it can not be edited. :(
Neo1965 03-03-07, 01:52 AM I've always wondered how Deadwood will sound with lossless audio. But unfortunately, cancelled shows don't get the highest priorities on the bean counters list.

Firefly and Family Guy both sold extremly well on SD DVD after the shows were canceled leading to Firefly getting a movie and Family Guy coming back on the air. would say canceled shows stand a much better chance in this day and age.
As for shows, 24 would totally rock my world. I've been holding off on those sales on the SD DVD sets ($20/season etc) in anticipation of the BR release. I thought 24 was on target for a "Spring" release according to that list posted from CES. If we don't get it than, i'd be shocked not to see it before the start of S7. Stargate: Atlantis would be cool, especially watching "The Storm" 3 parter in HD with a PCM soundtrack, and I bet we see Lost come out right around the start of Season 4.
Right now, I don't own ANY TV shows on DVD but Lost, 24, Heroes(HD DVD), and BSG(HD DVD) are must buys for me (assuming price follow the Smallvile trend and not the Star Trek SD DVD trend ;( ).
Band of Brothers is coming to Blu-Ray soon.Do you have a source...this is one series I must have.
Neo1965 03-03-07, 02:19 AM I do have a lot of box set TV shows, most in SD. I'm not sure how many I will get in BD, I might get CSI:Miami if it is encoded from the original HDCAM instead of that 19Mbps mpeg2 on cable.
Deadwood would be good with a family friendly lame-audio 2nd track since I have to listen to it with wireless heaphones when the kids are home.
Wanted from FOX: Buffy, Angel, Firefly
Wanted from Warner: Veronica Mars
That would make me very happy.

Ditto.
However, to date, not 1 TV title has been released or even really announced.

Wasn't The Sopranos the first WB disc to have LPCM on BD? ;)
aviators99 03-03-07, 12:48 PM Will they release previous Sopranos seasons in BD?
Man would I love to have Heroes S1 come on BD.
Damn you Universal :(
Wanted from FOX: Buffy, Angel, Firefly
Wanted from Warner: Veronica Mars
That's a good place to start. :)
I would venture that most series will appear later rather than sooner. TV series are arguably the studios' best DVD sellers in recent years. They are likely to wait until there is a much larger installed player base.
Early adopters, I assume, are more oriented towards movie collection, though cult hits like the aforementioned might appear first, since they are enthusiast driven.

Your right, my bad. I had forgotten about Sopranos. However I would never spend the $100 for this or any TV on BR/HD unless its Buffy or Angel.
Frozen Sooner 03-04-07, 02:05 AM still waiting for a release of "The Wonder Years"
Never happen. Music rights.
Dave Mack 03-04-07, 03:44 AM Unfortunately Buffy and many shows done in the late 80's-90's-early 00's (TREK TNG, DS9, VOYAGER, X-FILES) although shot on film were edited and all the special FX done on 480i videotape, (576 for the PAL masters of Buffy although the FX were still 480 and upscaled I believe...)
The masters are only on 480 video so unless they went back and got all the film footage, (If it all can still be easily found and is in decent condition)
rescanned all of it in HD and redid all the FX, they aren't gonna look better than what they are now. Sure they might just upscale the masters but that would be no different than what an upconverting DVD player (or even your display's scaler) does.
It is possible but will take ALOT of work, time and $.
It is taking CBS digital 2 years to do new FX for 3 seasons of TREK:TOS.
Imagine 21 seasons of the TREKS, 7 seasons of buffy etc....
trgraphics 03-04-07, 09:36 PM They did it for Firefly. It's on Universal's channel and looks pretty good! X-files would be great!
GodsLabRat 03-04-07, 10:09 PM That's a good place to start. :)

I'm hoping for Enterprise on BluRay. The show was edited in HD (unlike most other Treks) so I'm hoping a release could be done fairly soon. Plus, I remember TOS was released on DVD fairly early (1999 or 2000), albeit in 2-episode-per-disc form.
Trek might be the exception. Early adopters might also be Trekkers, so perhaps it's less of a risk to release Enterprise than West Wing, for example.
eXstasie 03-04-07, 10:10 PM Weeds...Band of Brothers...Entourage...
darkjedi664 03-04-07, 10:38 PM Do you have a source...this is one series I must have.
Um read my post near the beginning. I mention that HDDigest lists it as a BD title.
stevenjw 03-05-07, 10:36 AM Give me Firefly in HD, but at a decent price. I probably wouldn't replace my X-Files SD-DVD library anyway. Not enough eye candy and nine seasons would put a serious dent in the wallet at current Fox BD prices. Fox is ridiculous with what they're charging.
I am looking forward to BSG on HD-DVD. Heroes would be nice too. Neutrality has it's rewards. ;)
Replacing all 9 seasons of X-files DVDs - Yikes!!!! That's my favorite show, but I'm not sure I could go there - be pretty expensive. (I've still got the full series on VHS ... can't find anyone who wants it.)
Looking forward to BSG, since I haven't watched it yet and don't have the SD DVDs.
plonk420 03-06-07, 03:58 AM i'd double (triple? purchased twice!) dip for Firefly...
Dave Mack 03-06-07, 04:02 AM They did it for Firefly. It's on Universal's channel and looks pretty good! X-files would be great!
Firefly was transferred to, edited in and the masters are in HD. Very different.
The older shows masters are on 480i SD. I think only S5 of ANGEL has an HD master.
If you take an older show that has a 480i SD video master, you can't just go PRESTO and release it in HD. You CAN upconvert it (but won't look any different than an upconverting DVD player) or you have to go and find ALL the original film footage, retransfer that to and then edit it in HD, then RE-DO all the FX in HD.
It is taking 2 years just to re-do the FX for only 3 seasons of TREK and remaster the shows in HD. How long do you think it will take to do 9 seasons of The X-files or seven seasons of Buffy or seven seasons of say, TREK:TNG...?
I'm not saying it can't be done but if you want them done well it will take years,if they bother. Trust me, NOBODY will be happier than me if they do it. I have the european seasons 4-7 Buffy sets because they are in higher resolution and look better. (576 lines vs. 480) They also have the "previously on's..." included which the US versions do not have.
Alan Gordon 05-07-07, 04:29 PM In other news today, our friends over at The Home Theater Forum (http://www.hometheaterforum.com/files/whvchat.html) are going to be hosting another live chat with the folks at Warner Home Video TONIGHT, on the subject of TV and animation on DVD. The chat will be held from 5 to 8 PM (Pacific). You can click on this link (http://www.hometheaterforum.com/files/whvchat.html) to sign up and participate (be sure to bring lots of questions) and as usual, we'll have a full transcript of the chat available here at The Bits tomorrow morning.
I'll be busy tonight, but can someone go to the chat and ask if Warner has any plans to put any more TV shows on HD this year. Some shows I'm interested in from Warner Bros. are:
1. "Veronica Mars"
2. "Supernatural"
3. "Smallville"
4. "Studio 60 On The Sunset Strip"
5. "The O.C."
6. "Gilmore Girls"

denness544 05-07-07, 04:56 PM How about Entourage? I didn't buy Season 3 part 1 hoping they will release it in high definition soon.
Band of Brothers is coming to Blu-Ray soon.
SWEET !!
cawgijoe 05-07-07, 08:37 PM Would like to see The Unit.
Alan Gordon 05-08-07, 12:45 PM I'll be busy tonight, but can someone go to the chat and ask if Warner has any plans to put any more TV shows on HD this year.
In regards to questions about titles in a high-definition disc format, this is the general summary of how Warner responded: "As a leader in the HD category we are seriously evaluating all of our content for release on HD and BD." Also, it was brought up that lists of titles on unofficial sites (HighDefDigest.com was mentioned) may contain information on potential high-def releases, like Friends, which Warner states did not come from them. However, they say to "Look for exciting TV on HD-DVD and Blu-ray news later this year".
TVShowsOnDVD.com (http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/newsitem.cfm?NewsID=7285)
Sadly, no news regarding any specific HD titles, but at least it appears we may get some later...

Um read my post near the beginning. I mention that HDDigest lists it as a BD title.I really hope this comes out soon (Band of Brothers) I don't care which format releases it I just want it bad...of course with the best audio possible. :)
bboisvert 05-08-07, 07:07 PM They did it for Firefly. It's on Universal's channel and looks pretty good! X-files would be great!
All the effects shots in Firefly are upscaled from 480. It's pretty obvious when you watch the show on Universal HD.
bboisvert 05-08-07, 09:03 PM heroes
How is this "coming to Bluray for sure"?
Heroes is HD DVD exclusive via Universal
That sounds cool, but it might be overkill. I think the Cavemen are hilarious is small doses like the commercials.
It's not even the same thing, just someone else taking the idea and making it their way. It's not very good, last I heard. They remade the cavemen as suburbanites as well.
The original series was edited on film, so that's another candidtate. I saw a story on Engadget HD saying that there will be a TOS season 1 in HD. All the clean-up was probably done for the re-release to TV syndication.
I would donate my left nut if they would release SG1 season 1 - 10 on Blu ray in HD!
This has been posted several times, and I would love to see it as well but I have read the first several years of the show were shot with different methods, what with various crops for graphics etc, would remaster like a much older tv show and were shot differently from later seasons.
I read on gateworld, no less than FOUR different method types were used over the 10 seasons, with season 10 having yet another type all its own. The poster said about season 10, accurately or no, that they hoped to strike at least try to strike a decent hd def master for season 10.
I have s10 on dvd and have watched all of it, if they do NOT use a new master, it will make an acceptable hd transfer but nothing special. I have watched all 10 seasons on dvd, and some of the seasons were downright borderline blurry, which is ironic considering its a special effects laden show.
Now you go from all this to striking new masters, and what master technique do you mate up best with which shooting method. I honestly don't know but I would not have high hopes for high quality hd-dvds as sad as it to say. Adjustments can be made to work with different issues in making the new masters, but that costs money so the best bet is they strike them all the same at the same time and the chips fall where they may.
Atlantis on the other hand was shot from day 1 for hidef it has been said over and over.
R Miyashiro 08-04-07, 04:28 AM I can't wait for my Heroes box set to come in later this month. I think it's worth dropping $200 on HD-DVD for this series as well as Galactica when it is released.
I hope that the first two seasons of Rescue Me is released on Blu-ray. I'm a little surprised that the other F/X series are not on Blu yet.
I'm also a bit surprised that Warner's new Babylon 5 video wasn't released on either format since it is the first time B5 has been shot in video. The standard definition DVD soared on amazon's charts and future volumes are planned. This reminds me of when I was collecting the Babylon 5 LDs in the late 90s (fullscreen versions a few years before the DVD arelease) which were some of the last titles offered on Laser Disc, but not on DVD at the time.
