View Full Version : Now that your flat panel is so slim, what do you do with your other a/v gear?

Getting ready to get a plasma and something occurred to me.

My current tube tv is a 27" panny and it is about the same depth as my a/v receiver, dvd player, dvd recorder and 360.

Since a plasma is going to be only about 4" inches deep (saving floor space) are there clever ways to deal with the other equipment that is much deeper?

Yeah. Put them some distance away in a separate rack and mount the plasma on the wall.

Yeah, closet, pantry, etc. Keep all that stuff out of sight but not out of reach and run cables to the plasma. Get an RF remote or IR extender...makes for a nice clean install.

Buy a wonderful looking stand and show off all tricked out equipment. I know I know, I am in the minority but hey!

Thx all.

I am thinking about something, might be crazy.

A 42" plasma is about 42" wide so...

I can place the receiver, dvd, dvr and 360 above the tv but at a 45 degree slope. So my 10" deep dvr is now only 5" deep.

I would still be able to read the displays and it would save me and my back from bending over to change discs.

Any issues with dvd's spinning at a 45 degree angle?

tiaSounds weird to me but your geometry is off.

Yeah, just a bit, would save about 20%, so 10" becomes 8", not 5".

Still might be cool, gets this stuff up to eye level so I don't have to bend over with a bad back.

Gotta figure out if a drive spinning at a 45 degree angle is bad though.
