I recall reading somewhere some guidelines for how much above eye level a TV can be mounted - or more correctly above how high it should not be mounted.
Can't find that resource anymore however - can anyone give guidelines?
I'll be about 16 feet from a 52" diagonal screen and I am concerned about not mounting too high for comfortable viewing although it has to be sufficiently above fireplace to look right and not get too much heat.
Also at that distance is a tilt mount required/recommended or can I get away with flat mount?
Thanks

I don't have my ergonomic guidelines with me, but I know it's no more than 15 degrees to the left or right to see the sides of the screen, and I *THINK* it's 25 degrees up (that's to the top of the screen).

Sorry, actually I remembered that I DO have my ergonomic guidelines with me... it's 30 degrees up or down. 50 degrees is considered the "High Visual Limit" (painful to look past that point)
Lemme tell you, these 3 pages are my most referenced set of information when I'm laying something out.

This has been discussed more than a few times, I've read that the ideal height would be that the center of the screen should be eye level with the viewer in a normal seating position...which is approximately 45" above floor level.
In my situation, the center of my plasma will be ~55" high above the floor (Panasonic TH-50PH9UK), higher than ideal, but that is the lowest that I can get above the fireplace.
If you're really worried about it, get a cutout of cardboard or use masking tape to see what the screen will look like on the wall, sit on the couch and make a decision if it will be too high or not.
I made the decision to go with mine, I think it will look ok.

Edit: I guess seating distance is a major factor. I will be sitting ~12-13' from the screen at the main seating position.
