View Full Version : How much do you love CRT? Gino AUS 03-02-07, 10:55 PM After looking at what appears to be a drop in the CRT forum, and more love for digitals, I thought I'd ask how much love these 3-eyed monsters still get. Gino AUS 03-02-07, 11:14 PM Should have put an option: She was great, but now I need twin action! (Blend or Stack) :) nashou66 03-02-07, 11:48 PM I swtiched from digital to crt tthis past december. now i find myseld obsessed! I love this new crt addiction! Cant wait till someone comes up with a less expensive blendzilla! Athansios Jedah Doma 03-02-07, 11:50 PM I'm with the other CRT lovers. There's just nothing that beats the picture and clarity present in a good HD CRT. I have the best of both worlds. I've got great SD picture and wonderful HD content. Sure, I can't get 1080p and 720p is really upscaled to 1080i, but it still looks wonderful. For the price and quality, you can't beat a good CRT. My Sony 970 HD CRT > everything else. :D vancouver 03-03-07, 12:03 AM never posted in this forum before, but I have to say this. I have spent thousands on plasma tech and external processors, and nothing comes close to the PQ of my friends B&O Avent CRT. Will Plasma ever catch up to the Black levels, clarity, and lack of motion blur of high quality CRT? Hope so because CRTs ar just to small and take up to much room. Phil Smith 03-03-07, 12:14 AM I think digital is getting close to equaling CRT, but I still like CRT better. Lots to tweak, and something about them I just like. I can't really explain it. I just like em! Unless an affordable digital (less than $10K) comes along that just blows CRT away, I don't see myself ever changing. kschmit2 03-03-07, 04:02 AM not a friend of "married for life". so I chose the second option :) eandoz 03-03-07, 07:23 AM all I can say this, after spending all week demoing various digital projectors and then tonight spending a few hours just veiwing a very very well calibrated xg ,digitals are acceptable however, crt's are absolutely sublime, period! Kysersose 03-03-07, 08:23 AM Should have put an option: She was great, but now I need twin action! (Blend or Stack) :) Done. Had to place it at the bottom though... Cheers, Kyser Gino AUS 03-03-07, 08:36 AM It's good to see that CRT is still getting a lot of love :) Curt Palme 03-03-07, 09:24 AM THe thing is, you won't get an even response in this forum. (of course!). What stats I'd be interested in would be a poll like the following where everyone with a projection device could see it. -I'm CRT for life or: I switched to digital for the following reasons: - Too much tweaking needed (state CRT brand and model) - It broke once too often - no one local to me to assist in tweaking (I'm scared to open the cover) - Digital isn't quite the image that CRT is, but it's less hassle - I didn't go a good job installing my CRT, and it fell on and killed my dog - I don't see a difference in PQ betweeen digital and CRT - The wife talked me into switching (ussypay!) - my a/v sales company told me that CRT was now crap compared to digital and got me to buy a new one. - the digital fit nicely into my shopping cart at Costco and went well with my Bose system Obviously there's one tongue in cheek option above (;)) but I'd say that amny of the reasons above are why there's less CRT out there. To each their own though..:) benny 03-03-07, 09:42 AM all I can say this, after spending all week demoing various digital projectors and then tonight spending a few hours just veiwing a very very well calibrated xg ,digitals are acceptable however, crt's are absolutely sublime, period! hehe ... you definately needed a reference readjustment again. All that viewing of greymatter had clouded your memory of what CRT is all about. You were very quiet while we watched Alien Vs Predator but I could see the grin on ya face :D I voted for the second from the top. I'm after the end result. While I enjoy tinkering with CRT's and get great satisfaction out of getting the best from them, if Daisy Digital ever reaches puberty then I'd be quite happy to put the old girl to pasture and try the young 'un. Provided it didn't cost me an arm and a leg! Cheers :) Russ draganm 03-03-07, 11:04 AM - the digital fit nicely into my shopping cart at Costco and went well with my Bose system To each their own though..:) LOL, I will have to copy that into my "smart-ass responses" folder for future use :D Tinman 03-03-07, 11:41 AM After seeing a few digitals and owning a DLP RP TV that I calibrated, as well as having watched an 8" CRT for years I can only say this after getting a 9" LC: CRT STILL is absolutely the king if you want to get sucked into your screen. Period. Although I'm willing to accept that it's not for everyone. I'm married for life. Marc CaspianM 03-03-07, 12:15 PM I have an XG1352LC that has less than 1200 hrs on it. I guess I am stuck for life with CRT. :) I use my LCD and previously a DLP and have loved them because they really raised my appreciation for CRT like never before. Tim in Phoenix 03-03-07, 12:16 PM Guys! Need I comment?????? LOL Gino AUS 03-03-07, 12:18 PM THe thing is, you won't get an even response in this forum. (of course!). Well, this was posted in the CRT forum. I was concerned people were switching over to digital, wanted to see those that are still sticking with it mainly whether they're in it for the long run etc... Tim in Phoenix 03-03-07, 12:21 PM Should have put an option: She was great, but now I need twin action! (Blend or Stack) :) Oops! I did not see that, change my vote!!!!! Kysersose 03-03-07, 12:27 PM Oops! I did not see that, change my vote!!!!! What did you originally vote for? Tell me and I can make the change. I'm assuming "married for life" but I don't want to change it unless I'm certain. Thanks, K Tim in Phoenix 03-03-07, 12:42 PM What did you originally vote for? Tell me and I can make the change. I'm assuming "married for life" but I don't want to change it unless I'm certain. Thanks, K Exactly! LOL Kysersose 03-03-07, 12:46 PM Alright, I made the change. K Gino AUS 03-03-07, 12:51 PM Hehe, you might as well do that for me too. I was second choice before. Kysersose 03-03-07, 12:53 PM Hehe, you might as well do that for me too. I was second choice before. Done. Semisentient 03-03-07, 01:36 PM I'm with CRT until a reasonably priced high PQ digital is available that will give me a 14' wide unity gain screen. Mastiff 03-03-07, 04:19 PM Interesting that no one are looking for a quickie! Seems like this forum is pretty different from the rest of the world... ;) I voted number two. I have what I need for now, but in 5-10 years I suppose there may be a new technology that can give me a better picture at a price I can afford. ChrisWiggles 03-03-07, 05:11 PM I voted for "Still in love, not looking for another" I have lots of love for CRT. But it isn't mutually exclusive, I also have lots of love for high-end digitals too. I also have lots of love for film. CaspianM 03-03-07, 05:18 PM Chris, it is time to get yourself a better CRT or ... With your level of enthusiasm you almost need to. ChrisWiggles 03-03-07, 05:31 PM I would love to, but I am satisfied for the time being with my G808, and it's simply not a worthwhile expenditure to move to a 9incher at this point. I don't have the luxury income to spend a great deal more on my theater, it suits me fine and most my watching is DVD anyway. JosephF 03-03-07, 08:36 PM For me the main reason to go with CRT was quite simply the bang for the buck. What can I say, I'm a cheap b@$t@rd :) When I got mine a little over a year ago you could not touch a decent digital (not even HD) for at least 3-4x what I paid for my CRT. Add in that I get light induced migraines (which I've had triggered twice by DLPs) and that I light to sit way to close for an LCD and it was really a pretty easy decision. So I am definitely in the still in love, not looking for another group. All that being said, several years from now when it comes time to replace my CRT, I expect that there will be good digitals that are cheap enough to get a serious look. BobNelson 03-04-07, 04:56 PM As long as I have Tim Martin, this 9500LC stays. sergewagner 03-05-07, 07:21 AM Pure black - a contrast about 25000:1 , 1080P - no Pixels (espically no squared pixelraster) - i love it Maybe in 8-12 years, when you get a triple dlp with same good contrast values that gives a resolution of 4660x2000 (for 2.33 movies), i am willing to change The only unconvenient i see is the massive power consum of a good crt projector - about 900e/hour is quite a lot and not very ecological Serge |
