I tested an 18 gauge, narrow crown pneumatic stapler using some scrap GOM and pine. I used 1/2 inch staples and set the depth adjustment so the staples would hold the GOM but not go through it. The 18 gauge staples, IMO, are too thick for this application. The narrow crown (1/4") also seemed to narrow for this application. The depth of the staples was not as uniform as I thought it should be.

Would a "fine wire" pneumatic staple gun be better for this application?

For example: the Surebonder pneumatic staple gun that shoots 1/4"" to 9/16"" arrow T-50 or Surebonder No. 4 20-gauge staples.

The wider (1/2" Crown) finer staples are better for uphostry work. 1/4" crown staples are designed for assembly of wood, especially man made products like particleboard and MDF.

I'm not saying they won't work, but they work better, as evidenced by your depth control problem. 1/4" crown typically desigend to set the staple below the surface, but 1/2" crown better for not setting the staple with thinner materials. For instance a 9/16" by 1-1/2 to 2" is best for OSB Sheathing applications because it doesn't damage the structure of the OSB bond.

Hope this helps

I used about 25,000 staples and this gun for my basement. Worked like a champ. I Placed staples about one staple apart. The staples are 22 gauge.
