I purchased a Samsung 6187 DLP set recently and have now how HDMI capability. I also run a Marantz DV4001 DVD with HDMI and a DirecTV HDDVR with HDMI.

I have a Marantz SR5300 receiver, but no HDMI input/output. I currently have the HDMI cable connected to the DVR with optical sound connection to the receiver, but it cuts off 5.1 when changing channels. Does this have anything to do with the lack of ability to directly connect to the receiver. Also, what is the best way to connect the DVD to my set?

Since I am new to HDMI, is there anyway to add HDMI connection to my receiver through converters, etc?

Any help would be appreciated.

Great TV i have the 6187 also. The 5.1 problem can be in DVR settings menu, the optical is good so i wouldn't see anything wrong with the audio connection.

You should connect the DVD via HDMI or component. HDMI best i beleive that is a proggressive scan so HDMI will give you a better picture.

I'm not too hot on HDMI these days with my setup. My Motorola cable box refuses to output anything unless it is turned on after the TV. If I leave the cable box on, turn the set off, and then back on, I get either a green screen or noise. As much as I like the idea if all digital, sometimes analog just works better.

Nothing wrong with Component. It does 1080p just fine...

I belive that movies cant be output at 1080p over component becuase of copyright laws. But you can play xbox 360 games at 1080p over component.
