View Full Version : Pool table
Bradp56 03-04-07, 02:05 PM I am finishing a room and it will be 13foot 1 by 16foot whatever because the length will be open ended, I will be fine for a 7 foot table but I was curious if anyone had any experience would it be possible to get an 8 foot table?
Thanks.
Seafighter 03-04-07, 03:49 PM I got mine from american heirloom - ahpooltables.com. Give them a call. They can help with room dimensions etc. After doing a great deal of research they offered the best value. Very well made piece of furniture.
Bradp56 03-04-07, 04:23 PM I will check into them hopefully i will be able to figure something out.
fuzzatch 03-05-07, 11:13 PM I have been looking into this also. I have a room that will be 17' to one corner (25' total) and am looking to get an 8' table, but not yet sure (nothing worse than hitting a wall on during your stroke). With roughly16' you could get an 8 footer but you will have to get some shorter cues or you will be hitting the walls. Here is a great size chart that my help you with your decision.

Bradp56 03-06-07, 09:04 PM Many say it will be fine others say no it wont, 13 ft 1 width would give me 4 and a half feet on each side, and they say you want to have 5 ft but usually when you shoot from the side the cue is angled up giving you more room, I know I am perfect for a 7' foot table but I really want an 8 foot table just wish I could test it before I buy I mean I could buy a 54 or 56 in cues. I just know how frustrating hitting the walls could be.
fuzzatch 03-06-07, 10:58 PM You could even go down to a 48" cue for when you are hitting strait on at the sides, this way you will have plenty of space. Smallest recommended width with an 8' table and 48" cue is 11'8, leaving you plenty of room, you could probably even be comfortable with a 52" cue.
Call a local table dealer and get some info from them. Maybe they have set up 8 footers in rooms similar to yours.
Also, another great way to test it out is to put tall box at the same position as where your table would be while standing at the sides and try out your stroke to see if you hit anything. Move it around the room to get a feel of how the table would be at all shooting angles. I did this at my old place to see if a table would even be worth getting. It wasn't.
Good luck.
apollo1813 03-07-07, 08:51 AM Just built a new home and have a combo pool/ht room. My room is 12' x 31'. Obviously length wasn't a problem but I was concerned about the width.
I went ahead and got the 8' standard table. WIth a straight-on shot from a side rail, where the cue ball is within 1/3 table width, I have to use a 42 or 48" cue. Other than that, not problems. In my mind, its a small sacrifice to have the bigger table. Plus, my local retailer only carried the 8' in stock so the 7 would have been a special order with lots of extra costs.
FWIW...I went with a Connelly table...very happy with it so far.
Bradp56 03-07-07, 07:42 PM Well I went to my dads today and he has a room size almost identical to mine, he has a 7 foot table and ofcourse the 58 inch cue he had fit fine. So I thought I would measure if it were an 8 foot table the cue was close to the wall if the ball was right on the rail, I know usually you will be lifting the cue when its like that so I did and it still kinda hit. I tried a 56" cue and had no troubles so I am not sure what I want to do, The length of the room I will have is 16' 7 but one side is open ended, I am still not sure what I want to do.
kmeleon 03-08-07, 10:22 AM My room is 13' 2" for the width of the table, I use full length cues (58"? can't remember off the top of my head) and have a 52" for when you are anywhere closer than 4" or so to the side rail with a straight across shot. I advise you to get the 8' table, its really not bad. Just get one "shortie" cue and you'll be fine. 7' tables in my opinion are just a waste. Most bars are 8' around here so its nice to keep shooting on the same size table.
Bradp56 03-08-07, 08:06 PM Thank you for your advice, do you know where you can get a 56" cue or 54" So you guys think I should go with 8' I think I may do that because I really want one
fuzzatch 03-08-07, 10:57 PM You can probably pick up the shorter cues whever you decide to get your table. It is pretty common for table dealers to carry the gear to go with the table.
Bradp56 03-10-07, 03:38 PM Does anyone have pictures of their Pool Rooms? Would love to see them.

Maybe in time.
Bradp56 03-17-07, 09:18 PM Go with a nice 1080P LCD and Dish Network you wont be dissapointed.
Bradp56 03-17-07, 09:21 PM Hey Seafighter what size pool table is that.
buckrogers71 03-18-07, 12:04 AM just got my azz handed to me from one of my friends as i have a LCD 50" in the LR, a 20" in the bedroom, a 32" in the basement (in place of that 27" CRT) and the 20"CRT in the bar area. Geez! :D
Bradp56 03-18-07, 08:26 PM LOL, Did you buy the bar or have it built?
buckrogers71 03-18-07, 08:47 PM i built the bar.
Bradp56 03-18-07, 10:04 PM Thats one thing I need to learn to do because I want a bar like that its not too big and not too small, do you have any pics of the inner side of it?
We have space for a bar, but no water hookups or anything. Not sure I want to setup a bar without those.

I dont have anything like that, i make due. I am kinda lucky though, my kitchen is right up the stairs from the basement.
Bradp56 03-19-07, 10:32 PM I would like to have hookups for a sink but I would make due if I couldnt get one.
Bradp56 03-31-07, 09:17 PM I went with an 8' I purchased it, it an Olhausen. I cant wait. I bought a 52in cue for insurance.
TAllen01 04-04-07, 11:18 AM 58" is standard for cues these days. You can ususally buy shorter ones at table dealers. Brunswick billiards (maker of tables) has a nice dimension chart on their site. Pics of my room will be up shortly, but I'm not moved in yet, and have ordered a larger table (4.5 x 9) for my room. I made the dimensions to meet the minimum recommended size for such a table (I think it was like 14' 10" x 17' 10", or something like that.
Bradp56 04-04-07, 03:16 PM That will be nice, I definately would like to see pictures of that.
Seafighter 04-04-07, 05:09 PM Brad,

I have a cool tournament set up for 6 players. If you are interested. It allows for all skill levels to play.

Enjoy your table..... they are a lot of fun I have had this one for 9 years and I never get tired of it. :)
Olhausen 8 foot table in a 18x14 foot room. Plenty of room for the 58 inch cue sticks.

What do you have on tap?
Nice set up tidal!
Bradp56 04-07-07, 11:30 PM That really is a nice table. I will take pictures of my room and post it Friday after my table comes. How Wide is your room?

Thanks, we just moved into the house and I haven't bought a keg yet. I think my first beer will be Blue Moon. Just to have something different. I usually just buy a keg of Miller Lite or Bud Light! :p

I think the room is 20x20, or close to that.

Yes, the oranges slices make it taste even better! I've never had it on tap either, so I figured might as will try it out. I tastes great out of a bottle, should be better out of a keg. :D
Bradp56 04-14-07, 12:22 AM Got my table today, the Olhausen Americana and I love it, trust me when I say that the room dimensions are fine, I did not use a short cue once 13ft is fine, when its close you just have to lift the cue up and you are fine.

I have a room 12x15 and got a 7' Brunswick Highlander in Oak and use 52" cues and it's great. If you have an extra foot in each dimension beyond my room, as long as you're not much taller than 6', 52" cues are absolutely fine for shooting and you can probably just fit an 8' table. Tape out the size of the table on the floor, buy a cheap 52" cue and see how it feels. If you lay the cue on the ground with the butt of the cue touching the wall, as long as the tip of the cue isn't overlapping the playing surface, you're in good shape. You'll also get a feel for the 52" cue and know if you're too tall for it. Remember, when the cue ball is on the wall, you're almost always going to slightly elevate your cue anyway, so it'll buy you a few inches to draw the cue back.
mrbossman 05-23-07, 01:29 AM Nice setup
