Can anyone explain whats the difference between Non-Linear Stretch vs the letterbox button on the remote? I just got the lumagen hdq feeding HTPC with Vista. My projector has a native 1280x768, should I need to always output all signals to 768P? I dont see much difference in 720P. I barely watch SD movies, most of my movies are HD now.
One thing I notice when I test the Lumagen HDQ with DVE(Digital Video Essentials), it handles the deinterlacing pretty good but it fail miserably on one test, I cant remember the name but its the one with the racing car and looking at the grand stand with a bunch of seats. NVIDIA purevideo handles this one wihtout a problem..Does anyone have similar setup?

Letterbox will expand a letterboxed movie to fill the entire 16x9 screen through a combination of zooming and croping...NLS on the other hand is applied to 4:3 sources to fill the entire screen in a manner that is uder determined...for example, I have my NLS setup such that there is little vertical croping so that I get all the CNN banners but some horizontal stretching at the sides...in fact, it looks so good that other looking at the banner some of my theater guests have asked 'since when has CNN gone HD"...hope the above helps.

Hmm... my use/understanding of the letterbox button is different from Joel. Letterbox button is for non-anamorphic letterboxed content. It is does not (or should not?) do anything like NLS. If you have SD-DVD inputs - you need to be able to have different inputs for non-anamorphic widescreen content ("letterbox") and anamorphic widescreen ("16:9").

This is how I do my CIH setup with a Panamorph + sled:
Memory A - has the letterbox and 16:9 inputs stretched - I use this when the lens is engaged .
Memory B - normal - not stretched - I use this when the lens is in the out position.

I had the feeling this was the correct setting thanks.
