Keep dreaming, everything Rare has done is probably legally tied to Nintendo somehow...I bet Killer Instinct arcade couldnt even make its way to XBLA if it wanted since it was released on Nintendo....Wont do much help, Rare hasnt dont much since those days...Although I did greatly enjoy Kameo.

Rare chimes in about VC possibilities

Rare sugar-coats a question about the VC. Find out what they said inside!

Browsing through Rare's homepage, I stumbled across a little Q&A, last updated February 28th. One reader asks:

Dear Rareware:
I am a young video-game player, who also owns a Wii. I am registered on the Nintendo forums and talk about Wii and Diddy Kong Racing DS, awesome game by the way. Anyway one concern I have is the decision if Rareware titles such as Banjo-Kazooie and others will appear on the Virtual Console. I would like to know if possible you could give me an answer, I know you probably don't have an answer, but I'd like to know, as I've yet the chance to play Banjo-Kazooie and Banjo-Tooie as I'm 12, and never owned an Nintendo 64 console. I also would like to say what a great job you did making Diddy Kong Racing DS, again I never got to play the original, so it's nice when titles like these are re-made with new features and gameplay alike. Anyway I hope this question can be answered, and you can continue making great games for Nintendo if possible.
Sincerely,
Steven Schwartz

Rare answered with this:

This is where we finally edge into territory that could see Scribes neutron bombed from management level. The only Rare-developed title on Virtual Console right now is the original Donkey Kong Country, and unofficially there's a strong likelihood that its sequels will follow. But the Donkey Kong series of games is a Nintendo-owned franchise starring an established Nintendo character, whereas something like Banjo isn't (and even Diddy Kong Racing is less clear-cut), so it's nowhere near as easy to call. Especially when you also consider the existence of Xbox Live Arcade. So right now, the best answer we can offer (for either download service) is "it's possible". I like your sausage casserole mix, by the way.

The vagueness in their response leads one to believe that neither company has a deal set in stone or Rare's playing it dumb until an official announcement is made. As much as I'd love to see Rare classics on the Virtual Console, my gut tells me we'll be seeing these on the X-Box Live Arcade. With GDC a few days away, we may see Microsoft and Rare make Banjo-Kazooie on the XBLA official.

Translated into: Nintendo will be able to release all of the cool games that you want, while XBLA will get the short end of the stick due to us selling our soul to the big N in its heyday.

The only benefit to this is that it saves me money and the 360 d-pad is so horrendous some of those games would be disappointing so its probably better left alone.

I own all three next gen systems so my worry isn't that it's coming out on whatever, but being on live means it gets an hd upgrade rather then the lazy Wii VC programmers not. Great post! Keep them coming!!

The new memory unit comes packed with an OLD Rare game -- Jetpac! Classic!

BTW, if you want to check out the ANCIENT titles Rare used to put out in the UK, do a search for their old company name "Ultimate Play the Game". Atic Atac and Saberwulf were two favorites of mine....

Just give me the old Killer Instinct redone for the 360 and I'll be very happy. KI was one of the best fighters as a kid.
