pwagner 09-08-10, 11:00 AM Just finished my first back up of a purchased blu-ray movie. Used DVDFab 8 and burned with image burn. The writer is a Buffalo external writer that I got off of E-Bay on the cheap (it came included with 8 Verbatim 50GB dvds for $100).
Anyway, I copied it on to a Verbatim 25GB RE. The copy plays fine on the Buffalo (which it was recorded on), however it will not play on an Optron reader on my laptop or my Panasonic BD-55.
Any ideas?
Iam using Tsmuxer for alongtime to make spilt disc it works really good
I strongly recommend tsmuxer
Thanks. Can we keep menus too?
maxleung 09-08-10, 03:40 PM pwagner, did you format the BD-RE before first use? If you didn't, standalones typically won't recognize it even though it'll work on a PC.
You should also disable Spare Areas before formatting, and then burn the disc again.

Yep - formatted it, wrote 0s to the sectors. I'll try reformatting and disable the spare areas. I'm using an rewritable so as not to make too many coasters while learning.
maxleung 09-08-10, 09:17 PM Also make sure the following directories (even if empty) are present:
F:\Template BD\BDMV
F:\Template BD\CERTIFICATE
F:\Template BD\BDMV\AUXDATA

F:\Template BD\BDMV\BDJO

F:\Template BD\BDMV\PLAYLIST
F:\Template BD\BDMV\STREAM
F:\Template BD\BDMV\BACKUP\CLIPINF
F:\Template BD\BDMV\BACKUP\PLAYLIST

Omit the "F:\Template BD" part. I use the above as a template - sometimes backups may be missing directories that are actually mandatory according to the blu-ray specifications.

I have NEVER formatted a BD-RE. I have burned both 25 and 50 GB RE disks using imgburn and they have always played just fine in my PS3 and Panasonic BD-300 players. Usually use tsMuxeR for making the BD folders. Make sure you are not creating AVCHD folders as this is a problem when burning to BD disks.

You create them yourself - easy to do in Windows Explorer.
pwagner 09-10-10, 10:28 AM I decided to bite the bullet and did a clone BD to a 50GB BD-R. This time I wrote to an ISO and manually launched ImageBurn. It worked just fine. I need to experiment more with BD-RE media it would seem.

did u use dvdfab or any dvd
While formatting a VERBATIM BD RE 25GB on imagburn, it is stuck on 99% for last 2 hours:) what should I do?

DVDFab. I have a lifetime for AnyDVD but I need to upgrade to HD.

Great! I used ur method, created iso, burnt, now on BD RE does play on PS3:) but does not show menu?
Now question is if that iso had menus originally?
Is there any ways, I can play back iso BD on my PC?
More so, now playable BD RE for PS# does not play on power dvd on my pc..says wrong format lol:confused:

Pretty good deal on discs. It says they work with my burner and the PS3. I will post my results when I get them. They are 59.99 for 50 shipped 4X speed with white printable surface.

I'm a real newbie at BB burning. I'll try another burn to RE this weekend. Did you do a clone of the original BD or just the movie? Clone should pick up all the menus.
ISO is just a container on your PC before burning. What is burnt is the contents of the ISO. Think of it as nothing more than a folder name.

I had a pioneer kuro BD 25 ( untouched downloaded) It is BDV and certificate. thats the one i changed to iso and burnt on verbatim RE.
If I could play back orig BDMV CERTIFICATE files oin folder totally 13 GB, on my pc and see if it has menus, that will answer my query? man..one hurdle after other..lol:eek:
alluringreality 09-14-10, 04:16 PM Is there any ways, I can play back iso BD on my PC?
I use Virtual CloneDrive for mounting .iso files so that they can be played in PowerDVD, but there are other programs like Daemon Tools that also work.
More so, now playable BD RE for PS# does not play on power dvd on my pc..says wrong format lol:confused:
I've seen PowerDVD give that error for mounted files if they do not have a certificate folder. It has been a long time since I tried to get PowerDVD to play a BD-RE disc, but I don't think it worked. If your .iso includes the certificate folder and you mount it as a virtual disk PowerDVD should probably play. The only other playback issues I've ran into with PowerDVD had to do with AVCHD type of modifications, but the Blu-ray stuff has worked fine from mounted .iso files.

now I burnt same file on BDR and my PC POWER DVD, unidentified/unsupported format:eek:
Is Daemn tool free?
This BDR plays perfect on ps3 but not on my lg bedroom powerdvd on my pc?
But who cares lol.
I used original bd 25 folder and used imagburn to create image and burn mode as one of option windows showed when I loaded empty BD R. now I ,ll use same method on BD RE and re create disc and check.
If it works in PS3 you should be good since it is probably the most finicky player. I think your PowerDVD needs updating. Can you at least see the disc on your PC?
I was playing my Bluray discs on pc before fine
Are you talking about retail or burned discs? PowerDVD will not play anything if its missing even one folder that maxleung listed above. I would just ditch it and use Arcsoft anyway.
Backing up a Blu-ray could not possibly be any simpler. You rip the disc to your hard drive with either AnyDVD or DVDfab and then you should have two folders, BDMV and CERTIFICATE (there might also be some extra files in the root level). You then just drag these two folders onto the latest version of ImgBurn and press the big button. It will automatically use the right settings for you.
There's no need to get into ISO making or anything like that, with the possible exception of 3D discs since they use a special file system.
If you are getting your data from more illicit sources you will often find that there are missing folders that will cause you issues. And if you are re-authoring discs with free programs you need to make sure you know what you are doing first. As I said before I would recommend you test your original files first on a BD-RE so you know it works and then you can start manipulating them.
Dude, if same disc can play with menus in ps3 not in bd rom/ writer on my pc, file structure is not in question IMHO. Power DVD is 9 latest that came with my lg bd writer. I tried all tools to mount image but power DVD won't play back. We will continue working on this.
Thanks
I would not use TsRemux for making the BD folders, it has not been updated for a long time. I have had no problem using TsmuxeR for making the Blu-Ray folders for a BD25 disks. It can be used to split the file and also add chapters.
For burning I usually use Imgburn, works great and is free.

Hi Mike,
I am going to try making 2 split BD 25s now per your suggestion. Is there any way I can keep menus?
audiovideoholic 09-16-10, 08:11 PM Alright, Ignorant to any type of burning whether it be DVD, CD, or BD. Do I need anything other than an external BD burner to hook up to my cpu or laptop to make BDs?
I've done searches and there are way too many results for burners to figure out what to buy. Whats a good unit to go with that wont cause problems?
Some help please!
kenc1103 09-18-10, 08:46 AM I burned the BDMV folder using Toast 10 with HD plug-in. My PS3 recognized the disc as BD-R and played it with sound only but no video. Any ideas?
There are many ways to burn a BD movie. I don't understand why people don't get ANYDVD HD from slysoft and download clownbd and imgburn. Then you're done. You can copy the entire disc or just the movie and select audio. Easy -peesy.

Peesy = piracy
My comment was meant that it sounds like people are having issues with their BD's - not meant to steer people in that direction.

I downloaded and tried DVDFAB last weekend and was not pleased...,
Didn't care for the logo plus the movie would lockup when trying to navigate through the movie. Maybe this could be fixed but I couldn't figure it out.
I have ANYDVD HD and love it. Will try it with Clownbd and Imgburn. If it functions just like AnyDVD with DVDs then then I'm sold!
eaayoung 09-19-10, 09:53 AM And before you ask, I don't care to bring a bluray in my car so it can be stolen when the vehicle is broken into.
Kevin Coleman 09-20-10, 10:08 AM Just a heads up. The discs I posted about for 1.20 shipped on the page
Previous to this on worked good on my ps3. On top of that they were 4x
And inkjet printable.

When you pay for the full version of Dvdfab, the logo goes away and you can navigate. That's why it's called a trial version.
ryedog55 09-21-10, 11:39 AM I use Tsmuxer to convert my .mkv files BD files. I then use ImgBurn to write the files to my BD-R. In Tsmuxer, I change the "border" setting to "0" but still keep getting this blank border when I play my movie in my PS3. It's about 6 inches from the bottom of my screen and cuts part of the movie off. Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong, or should I use something else to burn my bluray movies?
chalkeroochy 10-03-10, 05:04 AM Good day all,
I started using BD Rebuilder V3307 back in May this year, and updated through to V3406 without any problems at all.
V3408 to 10 were hit & miss with playback on my Pioneer BMP-BD30 abt 30% did not play, but they all worked on my PC.
Now with V3411 I get a 100% miss rate, using Haskell Industries Inspect matroski haali splitter "Isn't the recommended version" comes up.
I've tried older matroski versions (after fully uninstalling the previous one used) but this didn't work, I also uninstalled BD REbuilder and tried the same with Versions back to 3408 (V3406 won't load and tells me to update).
Burns don't playback on my PioneerBD30, and when Haskell Industries Inspects matroski haali splitter "Isn't the recommended version" comes up.
Can anyone please HELP!
Oops I found this link http://www.jdobbs.net/freeware/MatroskaSplitter.exe and all is good with BD REbuilder V3410
Mark A Gonzalez 10-17-10, 06:15 AM I want to start backing up my collection but I need to know if I should use ANYDVD HD or DVDFAB? Also would I need 50 GB blank disc or 25 GB blank disc? I only want to record the movies and no extras however I do not want to compress the movie. Also who has the best prices on blank disc?
chalkeroochy 10-17-10, 06:30 AM Use ANYDVD HD - but "rip video dvd to harddisk" first.
25 GB if you want to keep the HD audio, otherwise 8.5 GB DL DVD
Dougofthenorth 10-26-10, 10:05 AM Mark,
Before proceeding I would go on the DVDFab/AnyDVD forums & get a good knowlege base first before choosing which one & most importantly research the burning media (disc brands) or you may loose your burned movies later on.
Also, check out if your player & burner properly support ripping.
DVDFab has a free 30 day trial & automatically rips to harddrive then burns to BR media

Mark - it 'depends'. I use AnyDVD HD for all my rips if I want the full BD (rip to ISO and then use ImageBurn). Otherwise I use ClownBD or ToNMT to rip JUST the movie and audio streams I want. Most older movies will easily fit on a 25GB BD. Newer ones are larger. Amazon has 25gb BDs for as low as $1.10 a piece and work fine. I buy all my 50gb BD's through eBay from Japanese sellers since that's the lowest price I can find (@$8 each). My method is no compression and works with the any BD player.
bloodta 10-26-10, 09:43 PM Can Bluray clips with either TrueHD or DTS MA be burned to DVD-R and still retain the lossless TrueHD or DTS MA sound? I do know that I can burn Bluray clips with the core Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1 to a DVD-R and it works fine.
Dougofthenorth 10-28-10, 06:39 AM Bloodta,
If the source BR disc program information fits in size onto the target disc (somewhere less than 25GB for a single layer BR) all HD audio will be transfered.
If you are compressing the disc program >25G to a <25GB disc, then usually the HD audio formats are sacrificed. If your software allows for selecting/eliminating source info, & it fits on <25GB then it will do OK. If you burn as "full" or "clone" disc >25gb to a DL 50GB BR disc then you should get all the HD audio formats.
Unless you have the software & savy to re-author the source material. I just want a simple click & go solution.
Go to the 2 forums for detailed info & watch your BR disc brand to avoid problems & future loss of playability of your burned discs!!
Also, some BR burners/players mess up or prevent ripping, burning &/or playing.

I know it will work with BD media, but, I haven't been able to burn clips with TrueHD or DTSMA HD to DVD media. I was thinking that since it works on BD media that, for whatever reason, it's simply not possible on DVD media. By the way I have a Panasonic BD30.
Dougofthenorth 10-28-10, 03:35 PM Yeah - sorry I missed the DVD part :o
I remember there was a similar issue when I wanted, years ago, to put a bunch of CD music onto a DVD - DVD didn't support that function.
I suspect then that a DVD won't support the lossless HD audio formats, only
HD-DVDs & BR media.
Wow, I just discovered this thread while doing some searching. I hope that all the knowledgeable guys havent' all moved on to bigger things;)
I'm simply trying to back up my BD's to my pc hard drive to stream to my PS3 for backup and ease. I have AnyDVDHD, BDinfo and Clown BD/tsremux/eac3to. I also have loads of other programs that I've been experimenting with, but I hope to simplify it.
I've been having good luck except for the audio. I either get the wrong language, no sound, or only the director's comments. I'm sure I'm hitting the wrong buttons somewhere. I've been searching everywhere but can't find an answer. I've tried it in Clown BD, and directly from tsremux but no joy.
Well, I just got one to work and play on my ps3:) I checked the AVCHD box and outputed to m2ts. I checked the ac3 audio box because the movie "Flyboys" had DTS for it's main audio, and I heard that the ps3 doesn't like it when streaming.
I'm not making discs. I'm copying to my hard drive and streaming to the ps3. My goal is to back up all my BD's to my HD and be able to play them with a simple click of the remote. As a side bonus, their all backed up. I'm going to have to buy a bigger hard drive of course, but at only $100 for 2TB drives, it's not too bad. I'd still like to learn a lot more about this. I'm still unsure how to get the audio I want. I'd like to get lossless HD audio onto my files, but not sure how to do it.

Sigh, I'm sure I sent you a link to a guide, in another thread, that would show you how to strip out the film and best sound track. Once you have the BD on your PC, it's one program to do the film only extract and then a patch program to fix something.
I also think I told you that you can't stream the HD codecs to the PS3. For that, get yourself a BD burner and a couple of BD-RE discs (one 25 and one 50) and then you'll be all set. Or just get what you can over the wire.

I disagree. This thread has been the most useful I've found for manipulating the BD format. Just because I don't burn it to an actual disk at the end doesn't make it wrong. I have a folder with the BDMV and Certificate subfolders instead of an actual disk.

Yes, and I thank you for it. I perused it, but I managed to get it to work without as much hassle with Clown BD (my new best friend);) I'll go back to it and see if I can get more details on exactly how to strip the exact formats I want.
I'm getting bombarded with so much info that I forgot you told me that one can't stream HD to the PS3. I already have the LG BD burner and plan on burning a few of my favorite movies once I get a little more proficient with these techniques.

ccrider2 11-07-10, 07:27 PM Sorry if I'm in the wrong thread.....my need for knowledge is with authoring.
I finally jumped in and picked up an LG 10X writer and some disc to get my feet wet. The drive came with Cyberlink's Suite of sw (light version it seems). I'm not all that impressed, and hate to pluck-down $80 for their "better" version .... But is it really? Perhaps I just haven't figured it out yet.
The menu ability seems rather sparse and clunky. And I can't seem to find a way to burn a test to a hard drive folder that will play back as a completed disc.... as a check before committing to plastic.
Does any sw let you do this?
Does anyone use Cyberlink Software?
Anyone recommend something better? Or even cheaper?....like free? :)
I have NERO Multimedia Suite 10 installed on another machine without Blu-ray compatibility. I just need to uninstall it and install it on my newer blu-ray capable machine, then upgrade ($30) to the HD version. These guy's are like the airlines....'nickle and dime you to death'.
Anyone using NERO to author disc's? Opinions?
Right now, all I am interested in is authoring Blu-ray's with HD material (.ts files) captured from live HDTV and FTA Satellite via an HTPC. What got me to spend the $110 for this thing was the desire to document the upcoming final Discovery Shuttle Mission.....something to show the Great Grand Kids someday.
Appreciate any Knowledge Imparted,

marcaaron22 12-07-10, 10:39 PM I'm recording corrie all this week on ITV1 HD, I'm planning on making a Blu Ray with the recordings (yes, I know it's only in 1080i), I recon it'll make a good Blu Ray, I am recording using a dreambox 8000 satellite receiver, and I can log into the box via my PC to transfer the recordings over to the PC for editing (the video format is .TS), anyways, enough said on that side of it,
My question is, say I got a Blu Ray writer for either my Laptop or my PC, would I be able to still copy to Blu Ray even if the PC or Laptop struggles to play HD content, I mean just to use it purely for recording onto Blu Ray, not for playing?

If you want an external BD writer, I have the LG and it's been one of the best I've owned so far. You can then use it on your laptop or PC.

Hi, what is the LG writer you have like? How good is it?
Also what software is best for editing and copying to blu ray? (to play in a blu ray player)
Thanks,

Thanks,
I'm currently comparing four products that allow 'DVD Decrypter + DVD Shrink' like features for Blu-ray Disc:
1. DVD Fab Blu-ray Copy (http://www.blu-ray-soft.com/blu-ray-review/blu-ray-copy-review/dvd-fab-review.html)
2. Blue-Cloner 2 (http://www.blu-ray-soft.com/blu-ray-review/blu-ray-copy-review/blue-cloner-review.html)
3. Leawo Blu-ray Copy (http://www.blu-ray-soft.com/blu-ray-review/blu-ray-copy-review/leawo-blu-ray-copy-review.html)
4. Pavtube Blu-ray Copy (http://www.blu-ray-soft.com/blu-ray-review/blu-ray-copy-review/pavtube-blu-ray-copy-review.html)
Are these the main options out there? I'm not sure if Slysoft's CloneBD will offer all the same features when/if it's released?
Anyway, has anyone else already tried some of these four products?
They all seem reasonably priced, however I'm mainly concerned about recompression quality (both audio and video)? I believe some don't support VC-1 recompression (which is a must-have for me)? Do they all support audio recompression to DTS?
Also, do they support multi-core CPU utlization?
Cheers,
Bourke

You missed the deadline for lifetime subscription but I say get Slysoft ANYDVD HD - unless you're JUST looking for DVD. It handles every BD format and works flawlessly w/HD audio and no compression.
LatheOfHeaven 01-05-11, 02:20 PM Well, I am certainly NOT an expert, but I just started using the newest full version of DVDFAB Blu-ray; what I really like about it and I guess it answered one of MY questions here on this thread, was that I was wanting to gather the 'extras' after just backing up the 'movie only' on a BD-25 and burn the extras separately on a DVD5. I was able to do this quite easily with DVDFAB. To me, you have way more options as to WHAT you can choose and which format you want it to end up in with DVDFAB. A LOT more... ANYDVD which I have too is of course the best straight ripper out there, but you need to use other programs to select or modify the original BD.
So to your query above as to which program if you want a LOT more flexibility I would highly recommend DVDFAB because that is likely the truly only all-in-one program that you would need.
darthemma 01-06-11, 11:33 AM I started this discussion in the Oppo BD-83 thread to make sure it wasn't the discs I was using, but they have all said my Maxell BD-R discs work in their players, so I moving my discussion here.
I just got my first set of BD-R discs (Maxell 4X BD-R). I am trying to reauthor a movie I own so I don't have to wade through all those previews and menus to watch my movie.
I used anyDVDHD to rip and iso, mounted it with Virtual Clone Drive, used BD-RB to do a "movie only" compression (selecting UDF 2.50), used AVCHD to patch the index file (now I understand that's not needed with BD-R burning so I won't use it anymore on BD-R discs), and then used imgburn to burn the resulting BDMV and CERTIFICATE files to the disc.
The movie plays beautifully in my computer, but I cannot get the disc to be recognized by either my OPPO BDP-83 nor my Sony BDP-S350.
I tried it the first time by using imgburn after BD-RB and then I tried a second time letting BD-RB automatically start the burn with imgburn (and not using AVCDHD patch). I now have 2 coasters.
I have read many many many posts in doom9, but nothing has worked.
I have also ordered some Ridata discs and Verbatim to try next.
I have burned Maxell DVD+R discs by compressing Blu-rays to DVD5 (blu-ray format) with no problems.
I then tried burning a disc using Nero 10 and I have yet another coaster. All firmware is up to date on my BR players.
I am going to try another run with BD-RB and this time I'll slow down the burn speed (it's been burning at Max which is default). If that doesn't fix it, I'll try the Ridata and then the Verbatim discs. If that doesn't fix it, then maybe it's my BR burner. But whey would it play ok on the computer if it's the burner?
If anyone has any ideas what I might try next, I'd appreciate the help.

Unless you need to compress the movie - why not just use ClownBD?
LatheOfHeaven 01-06-11, 11:54 AM For what it's worth I use the Ritek BD-Rs just fine with my OPPO 83, so those should be fine with your player at least. BTW also, AnyDVD has an option in it that automatically gets rid of the trailers and warnings and such which I use when backing up my Blu-rays. I'm not conversant in all the software you have used to do this so I cannot comment on that, but intuitively I'd suggest using the simplest route possible to do what you are doing if possible.
LatheOfHeaven 01-06-11, 11:58 AM Oh, one other thing too... The free version of DVDFab HD also has a 'Movie Only' option that simply extracts just the movie if that is what you want and then you just burn it. REAL simple. I would suggest that... You don't get any of the menus but you do have the main film. I hope that helps.

Thanks for the advice. I use the BD-R and movie only setting in BD-RB. I tried burning another copy today and set imgburn to burn at 1X. Same result. Anybody need a blue coaster?
I just checked for a firmware update for my BR burner (PLDS BD-RE DH-8B2SHATA) and there is no update, so I think I have the most recent driver.
I am going to wait until my other discs come to try again. I think I have it down to either being the media or the burner. I ordere Verbatim BD-R 4x discs (NOT LTH discs) and I ordered some Ridata discs. If those don't work, then I'll try the Ritek discs you suggested. If it's not the media, then I think it has to be the burner. I'll buy a new burner after trying new media. But, it seems to me the problem is not the burner because the computer can play the movies.
Thanks, I'll let you know if the new media resolve the issue.
seggers 01-06-11, 12:52 PM DarthEmma,
Any thoughts on buying a 25 or 50Gb BD-RE, just to ensure that the porject actually burns and maybe saving yourself from some more snazzy coasters?

If I can't the discs I just ordered to work, then I'll try a BD-RE before replacing the burner. I know it's burning the discs because they play fine in my computer. They just don't work in either BR player.
The last time this happened to me, it was the media (it was a cheap Imation DVD+R that time).
What's odd is that other folks with the Oppo BDP-83 seem to find that Maxells work for them.
I'm also a tad suspicious that perhaps the Maxells I bought in the spindle (cake) container may not actually be the same as Maxells that come in the jewel cases.
In any case, I'll try the Ridata and the Verbatim discs I ordered next. I should have them by Saturday. If neither of those work, then I'll get a BD-RE to play with. Can you recommend a good brand for the BD-RE? Verbatim?
My only other thought is that I am using Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit. Could that be the problem? I just bought this new computer with Win7 64 on it and it came with this BR burner. It's a PLDS BD-RE DH-8B2SHATA. I can't find drivers anywhere for this burner. Even the driver download section for my computer's service tag on Dells website doesn't list a driver for this model.

Actually so far every day this year the lifetime subscription has still be available to order from the Slysoft web site :-P They've said the lifetime subscriptions would end many times before... it's an ancient marketing ruse used to suck suckers into buying something they don't need!
AnyDVD HD is a great product for what it does - however it does not do what I said I was after in my post - it does not re-compress and re-build the entire disc like DVD Shrink does for DVD.
That is why DVD Fab seems better value - it does all of that for about $80, whereas AnyDVD does none of that and is about $140.
Does anyone know if DVD Fab re-compresses VC-1 - rather than converting VC-1 to AVC (MPEG-4 H264)?
Cheers,
Bourkie

Why do you want to re-compress the BD? You can use ANYDVD HD along with imgBurn (which is free) to make an exact copy of the BD. Or use ANYDVD HD and ClownBD (which is free) which allows you to rip what you want (just the movie, select the audio streams, etc). I use AnyDVD HD and ToNMT to rip just the movie and HD audio. I use imgBurn to burn it to BD if I want. Has never failed (even on 3D BDs) where DVDFab will fail on 3D BDs (two coasters to prove it).

I used anyDVDHD to rip the movie to the harddrive. Then I used BD-RB just to a movie only version. It actually said it didn't compress the video stream at all. And I did use imgburn to burn it.
I really think it has nothing to do with anyDVD, BD-RB, or imgburn. I think it's the media or the burner. I have been able to compress some movies to DVD5 (blu-ray format) and the discs play perfectly in both of my players.
The reason I used BD-rebuilder was because I'm using a BR-R 25GB disc, not a 50GB disc, so I couldn't be sure it would all fit on the disc. I know BD-rebuilder with take care of that.
I just started authoring blu-ray 2 days ago. I'm still learning. Thanks for all your suggestions. I'll try an anyDVDHD rip of just the movie too.

For >23GB discs I'm not paying for a BD50 blank - the BD25s are only a $2 each.

Does ClownBD re-compress VC-1 (i.e. does it have a VC-1 encoder), or does it only convert it to AVC (MPEG4 h264)?

Is this a known problem with 3D BDs? Seems like a simple fix if it's just a format structure issue - 3D BDs don't possess any extra copy protection.
I still fail to see why AnyDVD is worth $60 more than DVD Fab?

I don't believe you have a blank disk or burning problem. I think the disk is not authored correctly. A simple test is to re-author the disk using TsmuxeR, a free program. Find it here-
http://www.smlabs.net/tsMuxer/tsMuxeR_1.10.6.zip
Just go to the stream folder of your movie, and add the main movie .m2ts file to tsmuxer, running the tsmuxer GUI , then select Blu-Ray as the output format and save it to a new folder. Then run the mux, it should not take long as it is not doing any re-encoding.
I then strongly suggest you get some BD-RE erasable disks to burn with using the latest ImgBurn program. You can also use tsmuxer to correct any audio sync problems that may arise, or remove any unwanted audio or subtitle track by un-checking the track before the re-mux.

For >23GB discs I'm not paying for a BD50 blank - the BD25s are only a $2 each.
50GB can be had for $7-8. True it's much more than $2 but it allows a full disc with no compression.
Does ClownBD re-compress VC-1 (i.e. does it have a VC-1 encoder), or does it only convert it to AVC (MPEG4 h264)?
I am not sure since I've only done @15 movies but whatever format the BD is in - it's burned the same format.

It was probably something I did considering I rarely use DVDFab. On a different forum website I posted and got this response: That's probably because you didn't tell it to make a disc copy in DVDFab, if you don't it just makes an ISO from the files it reads off the disc rather than a sector by sector ISO. Anyway if you have AnyDVD HD running you can just make an ISO using Imgburn then burn it back to DL disc after

Guess I paid for AnyDVDHD and not DVDFab so for me - I just use what I'm 'used to'.

So you definitetly confirmed that originals in VC-1 are re-compressed in VC-1 (or did you only ever do 1:1 copies)?
Does anyone else knof if DVD Fab. Blu-ray Copy does that as well, or does it transcode into AVC?

I thought I'd follow up with my case of the BD-R burning mystery. It has become even more mysterious.
I initially bought Maxell BD-R discs (which apparently are actually Ritek, according to Imgburn) and those did not play in either of my BR players (see my previous posts for details, if you wish).
So, I bought new discs. This time I got a Verbatim BD-RE to test my settings with. I burned the same files on the same settings to that disc and it plays perfectly. I had the burn speed set at max and when I checked the logs, Imgburn said it had burned the disc at 2X.
Convinced I had the settings right at this point, I then tried the Verbatim BD-R discs with the same settings. Unfortunately, that disc will not play in my blu-ray players. I had the burn speed set at MAX (AWS) in Imgburn.
I am at a loss to understand what is wrong. The only thing I can think to try is a new burner.
darthemma 01-13-11, 06:08 PM I thought I'd report back here to wrap up my saga.
I got my new LG drive today (WH10LS30). Burned a BD-R and it plays flawlessly in my BR players. So, it was the drive that came with my computer. The new drive works great.
I also hacked the firmware in the drive with MediaCodeSpeedEdit to remove the dang Riplock in the drive and was able to apply RPC2 Auto Reset.
I'm very happy. The drive was on sale for under $80 this week.
Thanks to those who gave me helpful advice. Much appreciated.
kevinokev 01-21-11, 01:16 PM I recently bought a media converter for a mac (iMedia Converter) which allows me to rip a BD into any type of movie format of my choosing (literally).
I've chosen the path of directly copying the m2ts files off of the disc (while iMedia Converter strips out the disc protection).
Once I have the m2ts file(s), I take them into tsMuxer (Snow Leopard build by vox...).
Once in tsMuxer, I remove all of the streams I do not want (ac3, 720 video, etc). So I am only left with English DTS-MA and 1080p video. I select the file output to be blu-ray and click the mux button (or whatever it says as I am not on that system currently). It then creates the BDMV and Certificate folders and populates them accordingly.
At this point I go and burn a data blu-ray using apple's OS burn option. However, once burned the disc does not work.
The reason for my post is to see what I am doing wrong (besides trying to do this on a mac). Any input would be greatly appreciated as I've been trying to make this work for about 3 weeks now.
Is it a setting, am I burning the disc incorrectly? I would like to continue using this software, but am doing it blindly at this point. Any input would greatly be appreciated.
Morpheo 01-21-11, 02:18 PM Data Blu-ray? There's your problem ...The Finder can *only* burn data discs, whether it's CD, DVD, or Blu-ray for that matter. But you want a "Blu-ray Video" disc (just like DVD-Video), and then your best option would be Toast. You'll need the $19.99 Blu-ray plugin though for the regular Toast Titanium (it's included in Toast Pro).
kevinokev 01-21-11, 03:13 PM My concern is that Toast might possibly re-encode the m2ts files upon output. I have the HD plugin for the app. So should I just drag all of the files that tsMuxer created (BDMV and CERTIFICATE) into toast under the Blu-ray video option or simply the m2ts files ??
Will toast preserve the 5.1 channel audio??
I haven't had too much luck with Toast while testing.
Thanks for the advice.
If you can lend anymore help, please do so.
alluringreality 01-23-11, 12:42 AM Is it a setting, am I burning the disc incorrectly?
I suppose it's possible, but since there are a number of steps listed, it's hard to say. One thing you don't mention is, what are you trying to play the disc on? While most recent players can play Blu-ray writable discs, not all Blu-ray players will play Blu-ray writable media. There is a list in the link below that generally covers writable media playback from a number of Blu-ray players.
Assuming the Blu-ray player is capable of playing writable media, the disc file system has to be set correctly. By default I think Blu-ray writable discs should use either UDF 2.5 or UDF 2.6, but I believe some software may allow for other file systems. I don't use Mac, so I can't say if the software would be using the correct file system. I have used ImgBurn with Wine in Linux, and it's capable of burning data to either a UDF 2.5 or UDF 2.6 file system.
Starman58 02-06-11, 08:03 PM Guys and Gals,
I am sure this is in here but I am lazy watching the superbowl. I just need a simple editing program for all the NASCAR, FOOTBALL and whatever else programs I use my Hauppauge PVR for recording to my WD 1B Black HD?
All I want to do is edit the commercials nothing fancy. Mind you my HD DVR downloads in H.294. I use Arcsoft which was included with the Hauppauge HD PVR external box. So I believe I need to work with MP4.
Thanks,
Starman
alluringreality 02-06-11, 10:30 PM I bought VideoReDo a few years ago for editing out commercials from over-the-air recordings. I think it only works with Mpeg-2 video. The main benefit is that it's quick and doesn't transcode, and I never had any out of sync audio using the program. Anyway, I believe they probably offer a trial.
Laserfan 02-07-11, 04:29 PM I bought VideoReDo...think it only works with Mpeg-2 video. I believe they probably offer a trial. They now have a version that does h264, though I dunno if they offer a trial version of that or not.
If they do, it's important to know that to get a full working software for the two weeks of the trial, you need to register the trial with them first (free of course). Unless you do that, the output is limited maybe to a half-hour or even 15 minutes.
alluringreality 02-07-11, 04:42 PM I'm not familiar with the TVSuite products. VideoReDo Plus is what I used for editing ATSC recordings.

Sorry if i put this in the wrong section.
Super_DAD 02-21-11, 10:25 AM I have great luck with makemkv and tue automated version autoripncompress. Usually takes about 45 minutes. I put my pc specs in because ad we all know that makes a huge difference in rip speeds.
spaldingclan 02-23-11, 05:24 PM agreed, makemkv is the best
latreche34 03-05-11, 05:32 PM I have 10 short videos that I stripped from MKV with tsmuxer as m2ts and because they are AVC DTS my PS3 won't play them unless they are in AVCHD or blu-ray structure, is there any application that creates blu-ray structure for multiple m2ts files as playlist without having to re-encode or transcode the files like roxio or nero does? I just want to be able to skip within those files with next chapter button, no menus needed, One solution is I can join them with tsmuxer and set the chapter marker according to the files lengths and output as blu-ray but too much work, is there an option to just drop the files in stream folder and edit the file list so any bd player can recognize the tracks?

After you hit big Start button to compile your project, go to General output section (in the right half at the bottom) and replace multiAVCHD text in Compilation name text field with anything you want. This should do it.
latreche34 03-09-11, 03:44 AM Does multiavchd edit movies in 7.1 without transcoding, meaning removing unwanted scenes from the movie while keeping the original quality and original multichanel audio? I used both SolveigMM Video Splitter and Smart Cutter and they both suck.
Faceless Rebel 03-14-11, 03:38 AM This is ridiculous. All I am trying to do is take Blade Runner The Final Cut from my HD DVD, extract the VC-1 video and convert it to 23.976fps, extract the TrueHD audio track, mux those tracks together, and stick a burned BD-RE into my PS3 and play the movie. I don't want to re-encode anything, as the video stream and just the TrueHD stream are only 11GB. All the good tools like ripbot264 only let you re-encode, all I wanted to do was extract (AnyDVD HD did that), demux the .evo, remux to Blu-ray BDMV, burn it, and watch it on my PS3!
However, I have not found any tool which can do all these things. I have found tools which extract the tracks (EVOdemux), re-encode the TrueHD to anything I want (eac3to), convert the video to 23.976fps (vc1conv), but now I have a raw video stream and either a TrueHD or LPCM audio stream and I haven't a tool which can then mux these things together into a stream PS3 recognizes! Sure, I could use mkvmerge to mux them into mkv but the stupid PS3 doesn't understand mkv!
If someone could help me here, I would greatly appreciate it.
I'm surprised you don't use AnyDVDHD to rip the HDDVD to a .iso file and then use IMGBurn (unless you're trying to shrink it to fit on a 25gb disc)?

Jacksmyname 03-18-11, 06:12 PM Hi all.
Is there a consensus as to which external Blu Ray burner is considered the best?
Thanks.
new04quest 03-18-11, 09:55 PM Hi all.
Is there a consensus as to which external Blu Ray burner is considered the best?
Thanks. I have to say: LG 12x External eSATA/USB 2.0 Blu-ray Disc Double-Layer DVD±RW/CD-RW Drive (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/LG+-+12x+External+eSATA/USB+2.0+Blu-ray+Disc+Double-Layer+DVD%26%23177%3BRW/CD-RW+Drive/1816347.p?id=1218297529857&skuId=1816347) and the price is right too.
and the price is right too.
$150 for that LG is not such a great price, you can buy the Pioneer BDR-206 from Amazon for $115. And if you want a external burner, just add a external enclosure to put it in for about another $15.

And if you want a external burner, just add a external enclosure to put it in for about another $15. Jacksmyname wanted to know what the best external blu-ray burner is. LG is perfect fit for his request. It is built solely for external with full warrantee and support by LG. Why make it harder for yourself to save a couple bucks?
The Pioneer also has a warranty. As far as saving a few bucks, I sure will, especially when it's also a better burner.
new04quest 03-19-11, 12:46 AM The Pioneer also has a warranty. As far as saving a few bucks, I sure will, especially when it's also a better burner. Why is the internal Pioneer better than external LG? The spec is almost identical. The LG provides convenient for a couple bucks more, and everything is included in the package.
I like to do stuff with my two hands on a lot of things on home entertainment and HTPC. In this case, I preferred the convenient of the LG. Myself, I preferred the internal drive. If I have to choose the external drive, I'll go for the LG at $149.

Well if you get the BDR-206MBK model like I have, and not the BDR-206BDS you mentioned. The specs are hardly identical. As the Pioneer is also a BDXL drive, and it is ready for burning 100-128gb triple and quad layer Blu-ray discs. And yes before you even say anything, I did indeed get the BDR-206MBX model and not the BDR-206BDS from Amazon, although when I bought it it was priced slightly higher at $120.

Now, you're really spinning the wheel on this. If you recommended it to somebody and you said it is better than USB LG BE12LU30 Blu-ray Burner for less money- where can the other guy or me buy the Pioneer BDR-206MBX and USB case for $149? Where can the other guy or me get a blank 100-128gb blu-ray disc to fully use the superior Pioneer drive?
Shop around, some places like Frys are asking $200, which is MSRP. While some other places are in the $114+ range for a BDR-206MBK.
I bought two of the BDR-206MBK Pioneers from amazon in late Dec 2010, I paid $126 for the first one, and $121 for the second one which I bought two weeks after the first one. One is mounted internally in my desktop PC, and the other is in in a external enclosure so I can use it with any of my four laptops. There are loads of different external enclosures to chose from at amazon, and at all sorts of price ranges at anywhere from $15 to $50. Just pick whichever you like, but make SURE it also has the option of a open front for use with CD/DVD/Blu-ray drives.
As for blank three layer and quad layer discs, you are on your own on pricing those. But seeing as they are so new, any you find are probably going to be very very pricey for the foreseeable future.
Right now, just ONE triple layer blank, is $110!

Since you brought it up that it is better for less money than USB LG external drive, please provide link to it. Please include the link for both the Pioneer BDR-206MBX and USB case for $149 and less? We'll appreciate the information.
The USB LG external drive is more than $200 everywhere, but BestBuy has it for $149. I brought it up because I thought that it is a great value for a very convenience USB drive. I still don't think that there is anything with this spec and configuration at this price. The USB LG external drive may not have the capable to burn 100GB to 128GB multiple layer disc as the internal Pioneer BDR-206MBX. For the price of the 100GB to 128GB blank disc, I think that you cannot beat LG value for burning the 50GB disc. The USB LG read/write speed on 50GB blank disc is comparable to the internal Pioneer BDR-206MBX.

Just shop around at amazon, you can find it and a external case for $150 or less. Sorry, but I am not your personal best price finder.
If you want to go even lower in price, find a place that still has the Pioneer BDR-205. Or just be happy with your LG, which for $150 is not really as a fantastic deal as you think it is.

No, I don't need a USB LG drive. My HTPC and Laptop has internal blu-ray burners. I recommended a USB LG to Jacksmyname, and you recommended this in post #2347: "$150 for that LG is not such a great price, you can buy the Pioneer BDR-206 from Amazon for $115. new04quest 03-20-11, 11:56 AM Here is another USB blu-ray burner with USB 3.0 and it included great Cyberlink blu-ray editing software.
12x BD-R Pioneer Blu-ray Burner (http://www.cwol.com/dvd-burners/blu-ray-external-u3brext.htm)
I used MakeMKV to record some blu-rays and it won't let me select dolby digital or DTS. I have a receiver that only plays DD or DTS, and it will only play 2.1 with that format. I don't care about "lossless" or "uncompressed" audio, I just want 5.1sound from my receiver. What software is best for me to use to convert the current files. I will not use a command line method, this is 2011 and that is absurd. I don't have the time to learn that. Any links or programs would be helpful. Thanks guys.
P.S. I am technologically inclined but have never ran across this problem.
It rips with True-HD or 3/2/1 or something like that, but I need DTS or DD for it to give me surround sound.

Thank the Digital Millennium Copyright Act.
Naturally, I don't agree with it, because you should be able to make a backup of something that you've bought. However, their reasoning is that we don't own the "film," that we simply own a license to view the film at home. I don't know how that reasoning ever flew with any lawmakers. When I see commercials for Blu-rays, I see, "Own it NOW on Blu-ray and DVD!" - not "Own a license to view it at home on Blu-ray and DVD!" When I order a Blu-ray from Amazon, it tells me the name of the movie and how much I paid for it. It doesn't say anything about a license for it. If anything, it makes more sense to say that we own the film but we do not have a license to distribute it for profit (in other words, we don't own the right to release the movie into theaters and make money off of it - like the studios do).
This way of thinking all stems from EULA's and other beliefs about intellectual property and/or digital media. It doesn't make sense to me, but whatever. I don't understand how someone can buy a car and then own the car, and have the right to re-sell the car without giving a cut to the car manufacturer - but when you buy computer software, you don't "own" the software and you have no right to re-sell it later. Why? Because it's electronic? I don't get it, but maybe it's my fault.
I recently read about a ruling in a case having to do with the DMCA, and this is one of the lines in the ruling: "Merely bypassing a technological protection that restricts a user from viewing or using a work is insufficient to trigger the DMCA’s anti-circumvention provision. The DMCA prohibits only forms of access that would violate or impinge on the protections that the Copyright Act otherwise affords copyright owners."
- To me, that makes it seem like it's legal to make a backup as long as it's fair use and you don't intend to distribute it. Of course, I could be interpreting it wrong. :)
Some very good points sir.

Thanks.

I have to say DVDFab 8 (http://www.dvdfab8.com/?gclid=CKaf6Pbel6gCFY0jfAod4j6DHw) too. You can try it for free.

ahmadka 04-20-11, 11:33 AM Hi all .. Well I recently got a Sony VAIO with a bluray burner and I'm trying to backup a few of my own bluray movies and had a few questions ..
I've figured out that you need to have AnyDVD HD running in the background and then to make an image, you right-click the AnyDVD system tray icon and select 'Rip to Image' ...
However I want to know, how do I ensure that AnyDVD removes any region protection info from my bluray when it creates the backup ? I have a copy of The Hurt Locker (which is Region A), so how can I ensure that the ISO backup I make is region free (or doesnt have any region protection) ?
Secondly, I tried to see the details of my copy of The Hurt Locker under BDInfo v0.5.6 and did the 'Rescan' thing, and this is the summary that I saw:
Detected BDMV Folder: E:\BDMV (HURT_LOCKER_NA)
Detected Features: BD-Java
Disc Size: 44,543,540,610 bytes
(*) Some playlists on this disc have hidden tracks. These tracks are marked with an asterisk.
Firstly, the Disc Size I'm getting here is NOT the disc size which is reported for the US version of The Hurt Locker on the forums here (44,543,596,980). Does this necessarily mean my copy is not the US version ? However do note that the playlist size of the main movie matches with that reported in the forums here (37,716,185,088) ..
Also, what does the phrase 'Some playlists on this disc have hidden tracks. These tracks are marked with an asterisk' necessarily mean ? Is this what is causing a difference disc size to be seen by me ? Also, would AnyDVD also backup such things through its 'Rip to Image' option ? .. Note that I didn't actually see anything marked with an asterisk in the lists shown in BDInfo ...
EDIT: I just tried the above BDInfo procedure with my copy of Angels & Demons and although it did again say 'Some playlists on this disc have hidden tracks. These tracks are marked with an asterisk', this time I actually did see some stuff marked with an asterisk, and for this movie, the disc size WAS the same as that reported on the forums here ...
EDIT: Attaching the AnyDVD logfile for The Hurt Locker ...
Osirus23 04-20-11, 01:11 PM There should be an option in Settings -> Video Blu-ray to remove the region code. Make sure that is checked (I think its disabled by default).

The other features on the disk do not matter to me one iota. I am sure this has been discussed in here many times, but I am hoping someone can just answer my questions. Thanks all!

2. Does the main feature and audio track fit uncompressed on a 25GB disk or do I need to use 50GB disks?
3. Will the $80 LG burner from Newegg do the job?

Free programs: ClownBD allows you to rip just the movie (if you want) and you can select the audio desired (need IMGBurn which is also free).
What's not free is the software you'll need to decrypt: SlySoft ANYHDDVD is one or you can buy DVD Fab which will also do what you're looking for.

I won't compromise so if the main movie is >25GB I do the entire disc. Most newer movies are >25GB by themselves so you'll be compressing many. Many older BDs are under 25GB.
Have fun!

You still need a decrypting software with BD Rebuilder - DVDFab decrypts and shrinks, burns, etc (even converts to files for the PS3 and other portables).
For an all-in-one solution I suggest giving DVD Fab a trial run (since the trial is free).

junglalien 05-13-11, 05:32 AM I copied a 25GB BD. I used AnyDVD HD to 'rip to image' then I burned the ISO with the Roxio software that came with my PC. It was very simple.
Now how do I get a 50GB BD onto a 25GB BD-R without compression? Can I just strip foreign audio and extras? How do I do that?

The short answer is you can't, 50 onto 25 doesn't work. Stripping out everything but the film and best sound track may save you a few GBs, but if the film is 35GB long, then that just plain won't fit.
I believe, once you have the ISO image, that there is software to extract out those bits. Then your choices are to either bigger blanks or compression.
If you go back through here, I and other, have posted links to PDFs that go into how to achieve this.

You can demux audio with Tsmuxer (http://www.videohelp.com/tools/tsMuxeR) or eac3to (http://www.videohelp.com/tools/eac3to). If you want to fit 50GB BD to a 25GB BD-R, you might need Megui (http://www.videohelp.com/tools/MeGUI) to make it smaller. The last step is to combine it.
If the main movie BD file is 50GB (which I doubt it, because the famous Avatar filled with features is roughly 43GB), you cannot simply fit it into a 25GB without compressing the file one way or another.

mrTAPOUT 05-14-11, 10:51 AM I just burned my first bluray in approx 1 hour and can confirm that audio and video are EXACTLY like the bluray version. I copied the movie faster using DVDFAB, the bluray copy option. It was extremely easy to use and the only program I needed to remove copyright info, burn to harddrive, and burn to disc. You simply uncheck HD audio if you want to remove that to save space. There is a main movie option that removes all the unneccessary stuff for you and saves a ton of space. Faster wasnt a big movie so I didnt need to compress. I did apoclpto and had to compress main movie with HD audio from 31gb to 23gb. junglalien 05-19-11, 10:26 AM Ok I've burned two 25GB Verbatims and they both work perfect in all my players. Toady I tried to burn a 50GB TDK. It won't load in my LG player. It instantly says "check disc" and spits it out. I got it to load in an Insignia player but it took awhile. It also played in my PC. I noticed the 25GB Verbatims have a silver surface. The 50GB TDK is purple. Do you think if I switch to 50GB Verbatims they will work? Why do you think it won't play in the LG?
EDIT: It does the same thing with Verbatims.

I tried putting all the seperate files into txMuxer and muxing for Blu-ray disc, but the resulting structure muxed all the files together into one single long 0000.mpls and m2ts.

I've tried that, but it crashes whenever I try to do anything. It also seems like it wants to re-encode the way it asks for target disc size and desired bitrate.

Had occasional crashes only when previewing menus.
It only re-encodes if you tell it to (in case when you want to fit BD-50 to BD-25). AVCHD .m2ts files from camcorder usually split into small chunks (less than 4GB), so you can calculate total size for your target disk before importing video files into MultiAVCHD.
jack4vid 06-01-11, 04:59 PM I video tape weddings in HD for a living. I use a Sony Blu Ray burner in my PC to make Blu Ray for the customer. I always check my products of course before release and most brands of discs have worked fine in my Sony BX1 and Sony BX57 decks. Now all of a sudden only Sony discs and a few random others work. Firmware updates make it even worse. Half of all my work is now playable only on the computer burner they were made on. The discs play fine but only there. My customers are going to crucify me if they find out their Blu Ray discs in time are no good. What gives? Is Sony doing this?

I have bluray movies two of them are same tittle(two different audio)
I made a back up of those two movies as movie only
now my question i want to make two audio onto one disc is it possible
alluringreality 06-08-11, 07:53 PM What gives?
I can't come up with a clear pattern from what you posted. If I was troubleshooting such a thing I would ask different questions and try to determine which of the following might be the most likely cause:
- Hardware issue (burner problem or burner firmware)
- Media issue (including poor quality or damage from handling)
- Software related problem (authoring or burning)
Firmware updates make it even worse. Half of all my work is now playable only on the computer burner they were made on.
Are you saying that Blu-ray writable discs you burned months ago, which played on the BX1 and BX57, no longer play on the same players? I have read about and seen players perform differently depending on firmware, but generally I consider it rather uncommon. My Sony BDP-S1 on the latest firmware still plays Blu-ray writable media.
I have some serious doubts that Sony would remove Blu-ray writable media playback from two players. I expect the HDMV download from my signature to play from BD-RE or BD-R media (don't use BD-R LTH Type) on Sony players. If the HDMV download would fail to play on a Sony player from BD-R or BD-RE, then I would have to expect burner or media problems.
My customers are going to crucify me if they find out their Blu Ray discs in time are no good.
My computer experience has taught me that any important information should have a backup. I have had hard disks fail, and I have had some Blu-ray writable discs stop playing. As long as there's a good copy of correctly-authored video, all you have to do is to burn a new disc and it should play in any of the many players that can play BD-R or BD-RE discs.

You would probably need a program that can author audio with multiple tracks. I'm not familiar with multi-AVCHD or tsMuxer capabilities, but the semi-professional authoring software like Encore or Sony Vegas can do multiple audio tracks.

There is a thread about Cinavia somewhere around here. DVDFab has some info on their web site. It is a "watermark" in the sound track and the playback device has to support Cinavia and not all player do support it so far, so you can get a different player for now. Say thank you Sony.

Actually, no, you can't. Not legally, here in the US, anyway. It doesn't mean it's not possible, it just means that you really shouldn't advertise the fact.
BTW, a BD burner can burn more than rips of BD movies. I use mine for backups and BDAV and MVs of my HD camcorder stuff, like our recent trip to Disney World.

Do you have a BD burner and a 50Gb BD_RE in that PC as well? If so burn one of your rips and see if that works.
Also, you don't mention if the originals have the same issue. What OS are you using? Have you turned off any AV type stuff, stopping that from interferring with the transfer? How are you transfering, HDMI cable, HDMI over cat 5, over the air? What else is running on the PC when it crashes?
Also, you might want to go look in the HTPC section and see if anyone else has had your issue.

templetun 07-21-11, 10:34 AM I'm trying to back up my Pacific BR movies onto 25g discs. I'm using the free version of DVDfab. Each Disc of The Pacific has 2 one-hours episodes. W/ dvdfab you can only select one stream to backup. It's not like DVDShrink's re-author mode where you can just put whatever stream you want on the disc and hit burn.
Ultimately, I would like to just have the 2 episodes on 1 disc since it will fit on a 25g BD-R. So, I thought, what if I rip each movie episode separately and combine them? So I went into the folder of the movie for the second episode, copied the .m2TS file and pasted it into the STREAM folder in the first movie. I thought that it would play each episode consecutively. But it did not. I would imagine that I would have to do something with those other folders "Backup, Certificate, etc" folders.
Can this be done?
alluringreality 07-21-11, 05:36 PM Can this be done?
There are various ways to modify Blu-ray playback. The following are just a few programs. MultiAVCHD can author a menu and a way to select between different video files, or there's also a reauthor feature. TSmuxer can probably either join video clips or play them back to back without a menu, but it doesn't offer all the features of MultiAVCHD. There are other programs like BD-Rebuilder, but I'm not familiar with DVDfab to say if that would apply to what you're trying to do.
pwagner 07-21-11, 08:32 PM Use DVDFab to rip to an iso. Use BD-Rebuilder to shrink the iso to fit on 25GB blu-ray. Then take the output from BD-Rebuilder and burn it to the BD with ImageBurn. Search this thread for the The Complete Blu-Ray Backup Guide, it has the step by step.
I have read quite of bit of this thread, but did not see this particular need addressed. A good portion of my business is audio and video calibrations for high end home cinemas. Of course, I created a CD long ago with my favorite pieces for critical listening, and carry a small drive for high resolution music.
Is it possible to do something similar with multi-channel music and BluRay movie scenes?

Hey everyone.
I recently bought Man Vs. Wild Season 4 on DVD, popped it in my Blu Ray player and was a little disappointed with the picture quality. I then saw the same episodes on my TV on Discovery Channel HD and was surprised to find that the picture quality was way better than my up converted DVD playing on my Blu Ray player. I bought other TV shows that were only available on DVD and I find that most of the time, the picture quality of the episodes that are broadcasted on HDTV are better than the up converted DVDs.
My question is, since you can buy or download TV episodes in HD, can you then burn those files on a recordable Blu Ray disc? Will the quality be better than the standard DVDs I bought? Thanks for any help regarding this matter.
A standard SD DVD is 480i and has 0.307 Mpixels. A 720p picture has 0.922 Mpixels while a 1080i has 2.074 Mpixels. There are sone technical reasons why the PQ of 1080i is not twice as good as 720p. Up conversion in the DVD player or the TV (the BD player may be able to output 480i or 480p) does little to improve the picture. The PQ of good HD media is always going to be higher than that of an SD DVD. I can't answer your last quietion.

Presumably you meant "when you CAN'T buy TV on HD", because if you can get them on Blu-ray, it will almost certainly have the best image quality possible.
But if you record TV shows off of HDTV, yes you can make BDs of these that will be wildly better than most off-the-shelf DVDs. In fact, if you Downconvert your HD to DVD, even those can look better than store-bought DVDs!

I'd much rather make Blu-rays which offer better grain structure, from HDTV broadcasts as interims and HD DVD to Blu-rays compared to making copies of already released titles.
Or maybe with Ferris Bueller's Day Off remove the Spanish dub and add John Hughes commentary.

Hi,
I was able to replace the Japanese soundtrack with the English-dubbed soundtrack on one of my favorite Japanese Sci-fi movies. It needed some editing, because the superior Japanese print contained additional footage that was not included in the American release.
I used Wombel for making the edits and syncing the soundtrack; the outcome was perfect, but I was only able to make a high quality DVD-9, because I wasn't able to find a program that would allow editing and demultiplexing with the original BD file.
If anyone knows of such a program, I'd love to purchase one.

Iontyre,
I completely forgot that audio in HDV M2T MPEG2 files recorded in MPA (MPEG2 audio) format because I sold my HC1 two years ago and went with AVCHD format. Audio in HDV file is not compliant with Blu-ray specs, video is. So, audio track must be re-encoded to AC3. And when I said “without re-encoding” I referred to video track in HDV file.
You can leave audio re-encoding job to MultiAVCHD, or you can do it yourself and then MultiAVCHD will not be messing up your already perfect files.
What you need to do is download this free application called XviD4PSP here: http://www.videohelp.com/tools/XviD4PSP. Use version 5.
Load M2T file into XviD4PSP and encode a new M2TS file. See attached image that shows settings. With these settings only audio track will be re-encoded.
Now you have perfectly Blu-ray compliant M2TS file and MultiAVCHD will be happy and will not do any reprocessing.
I hope this helps.
Please point me to thread or let me know about raw .ts on Blu-ray. I have a Hauppauge and have been successful saving my recording via the Arcsoft methods that came with it, then using MultiAVCHD and Imgburn. I have tried burning the raw, larger .ts info to BD without formatting first but my blu-ray player cannot read it. Am I trying to do something that isn't supposed to work?
I am trying this method because my burned BDs (of HD football games) come out darker and not as nice as the originals.
Thank you for any guidance.
MozartMan 10-19-11, 08:15 PM Please point me to thread or let me know about raw .ts on Blu-ray.
Yes you are. According to my experience only PS3 can play .TS files from HDD, flash USB drive, or BD data disk. I just tested this. On the other hand my PS3 doesn’t play .MKV files which is very strange, unless Sony disabled this functionality.
You need to convert your .TS file to .MKV or .MP4 in order to play it on all other stand alone players. And if you have file larger than 4GB you need to burn it to BD data disk in UDF format.
You can do this with XviD4PSP. Look for my previous post for download link, and look at the attached image for XviD4PSP settings. With these settings XviD4PSP just re-multiplexes the file into MKV container. I assume your .TS file has video in H.264 format and audio in AC3 format.

Do they come out darker before authoring with MultiAVCHD or after?
From my experience authoring with MultiAVCHD and burning with ImgBurn shouldn’t change brightness and quality of your videos, unless your force MultiAVCHD to re-encode it, and even then it only transcodes it to lower bitrate. I am not sure if you can apply filters (like brightness/darkness) in MultiAVCHD when you transcode.
Hope this helps. Let us know resultrs.
Thank you very much for the information. What I need to do to get a recording to work, is save the .ts to hard drive via the Arcsoft, then pull it over to MultiAVCHD and select the blu-ray setting. To save to the HD I use the MPEG2 and High Quality selection on the Arcsoft. I usually only edit the beginning and end also using the Arscoft and thought I had read that this shouldn't re-encode but am unsure.
Maybe I am just expecting too much from a BD I make myself.
On another note, I tried creating an AVCHD using the Arcsoft on a dual layer regular DVD yesterday, (took all day to burn) and for some reason it didn't work either. That surprised me as it had worked the few times I had tried creating one although I hadn't used the dual layer disc before. Next time I will let Multiavchd try it!

If I understand your post correctly you are capturing with Hauppauge HD-PVR in H.264 codec and then use Arscoft to re-encode to MPEG2 codec. If that's the case then this is your problem that you get darker videos than originals. I never used Arscoft but I am sure that it will re-encode even if you save output file in the same H.264 codec. And there is no question that every video editing application in the world will re-encode video when you change codec.
I use VideoReDo with H.264 to edit videos that I capture with original HD-PVR and Colossus. And VideoReDo does not re-encode unless you tell it to. This is the application you need to edit your videos without re-encoding: http://www.videohelp.com/tools/VideoReDo. It is well worth $50.00.

Don't use Arcsoft for anything but capture especially burning to dual layer regular DVD. ImbBurn is the only application in the world that burns dual layer DVDs correctly.
This is my process:
Capture with Arcsoft
Edit with VideoReDo with H.264
Author with MultiAVCHD
Burn with ImbBurn
My authored Blu-ray disks look like original DirecTV broadcast.
Laserfan 10-20-11, 08:10 AM To save to the HD I use the MPEG2 and High Quality selection on the Arcsoft.
Dunno about Arcsoft software you're using--presumably you edit your recordings with it as well?
Easiest way to get a .ts (whether 264 or MPEG2) to BD is with tsMuxeR and ImgBurn. multiAVCHD can be used to make menus, but afaict you only need tsMuxeR to mux to BD.
Best editor is VideoReDo.
Thanks again, I really appreciate the help.
Just to clarify - I have the raw recording on the HD and pull over to the VideoReDo. I can then take that product and place into multiAVCHD ( or tsMuxer) then move to Imgburn. I basically only use Colossus to make the original raw recording in .ts?
MozartMan 10-20-11, 10:28 AM Just to clarify - I have the raw recording on the HD and pull over to the VideoReDo.
Yes. Use Colossus to capture then VideoReDo for editing. Don't re-encode to MPEG2, keep H.264.
I can then take that product and place into multiAVCHD ( or tsMuxer)
Yes. If you don't care about menus use tsMuxer. If you want menus use multiAVCHD.
then move to Imgburn.
Yes.
I basically only use Colossus to make the original raw recording in .ts?
Yes, just the capture.
And if you want to play your video as a file without Blu-ray authoring you will need to convert it to MKV with XviD4PSP.
Thanks for your patience. I am now ready to save my edited version made by VideoReDo.
Do I need to save it as something other than .ts now as I will need to move to MultiAVCHD and Imgburn to burn to Blu-ray? (My failed "raw" .ts experiments to MultiAVCHD are fresh in my mind.)

If you are going to use MultiAVCHD then you can keep your video file in .TS container because MultiAVCHD will remux it to .M2TS container during the authoring process. You just need to select Transport Stream (*.*ts) from the drop-down in MultiAVCHD when you load your .TS file. See attached image.

Thanks again. I am beginning to think my Panasonic player is at fault.
1) Did MultiAVCHD as "strict" AVCHD- then to Imgburn on regular dual layer disc - Panasonic will not read.
2) Did MultiAVCHD as blu-ray-Imgburn on Verbatim BD - Panasonic shows icon and displays info in upper right hand corner - play-24fps etc., but refuses to play. I suspect this is why I only have success when I change the .TS to something else before going through MultiAVCHD. Maybe I should look for a cheap external computer blu ray player to hook up to my (also Panasonic :) TV!
Log in hopes someone can see if mistake is coming at Imgburn. Thanks!

MozartMan 10-20-11, 06:58 PM Thanks again. I am beginning to think my Panasonic player is at fault.
Exactly! And that's what I was guessing. Panasonic, great brand name that crippled their Blu-ray players so people have hard times playing their home made burned AVCHDs and BDs. You basically have one option to buy new, different brand, BD player and stop pulling your hair out of your head.

I capture with HD-PVR as AVCHD .ts files. Edit with VideoRedo and save as .ts, these play just fine on my computer or WD Live Hub player, no need to convert to MKV. I urge you to start by using TsmuxeR as it is very simple to use, just add file and choose AVCHD for burning DVD blanks or Blu-Ray for burning Blu-Ray disks then burn with Imgburn. I play these disks just fine on my Panasonic BD-300 player or PS3. Have made hundreds of disks this way as I am not interested in menu's, just want the file to play. Once you get this working then you can learn how to use MULTIAVCHD and then know if there are problems it is with MULTIAVCHD.

Hi people
I hope you can help me out with this problem.
I have alot mkv files, that I wan't to convert to bdmv, so I can play it on my ps3.
I'm using tsMuxer, and it works for me. No problem making bdmv and burn it on bd-re. The ps3 reads the bdmv fine and loads, but I get NO video. All I get is a black screen, and in some cases I get sound.
I've tryed 100 times, but always with the same outcome.
Can someone please help me with this issue?
Thanks

Could be the attributes of the file?
Could be the attributes of the file?
What does that mean? I'm really a newb on this area.
Could it be some kind of protection issue?
The movie plays fine with sound, but no matter what I do, no video!

I was searching for a way to watch my blue ray files while traveling with my laptop that has no Blue Ray player and I found this. It works perfectly on my laptop, but has some kinks on my pc for some reason. I thought it might come in handy for others who don't want to pay the high prices for TMT and PWR DVD 11.
Laserfan 11-04-11, 09:22 AM But does it do menus? If not, how is it better than MPC-HC et.al.

Av8tr,
Since you already use it can you tell us, please, if it supports menus and if it automatically goes to the next M2TS file when Blu-ray disk authored using multiple files for the movie?
It does not use menus, and I don't understand the last question. I just have a large collection of iso's of my BD's that I have backed up in the last year. Most of the time, I just stream them to from my PC to my HT in my home, but occasionally I like to copy a few over to my laptop to watch on the plane. I couldn't see paying $50 or more for that priviledge so I was very happy to find this player. I'm sure it doesn't have all the bells and whistles of the players that cost money, but I thought others might appreciate it for a simple player to watch their blue rays for free.
I've never heard of MPC-HC. Does that play BD iso's without having to mount on a virtual player? If so, I will try that out. The reason I made this post was to find out more about other alternatives for playing my iso's without having to pay for a player.
Laserfan 11-05-11, 08:01 AM AFAIK Media Player Classic - Home Cinema does not do menus either, nor does any freeware.

What is the best software and best way and format to clip portions of blu-ray without loosing quality of audo or video.

DVDFAB will do what you need and can rip to a variety of formats so it depends on what you're going to use to watch it and what you're going to watch it on.
I rip my BDs to .ts files on my popcorn hour and stream them from there. HD video and audio.
coffeeman101 12-17-11, 07:13 PM hello,
couldn't find a general questions area on this site, so I guess I should ask here.
I am new to the world of HT and I am wondering how I should go about creating my library.
should I stick to purchasing Blu ray disc and watching them through the standalone player or should I be ripping them and watching off my HDD?
is the Quality effected? which is the best viewing experience?
seeing I am investing a lot of money into this, I don't want to spend a lot of money on everything and then make a stupid viewing mistake on something cheap and easy as ripping vs playing..
because I don't currently own a projector yet, I have never noticed the difference on a grand scale of viewing. I have compared it on my Flatscreen
but I want to know if there is a huge difference viewing on a large screen or not.
I am guessing ripped BD's would be inferior in quality compared to original disc's because when you rip it the size of the file is reduced.. so the quality is also right?
anyway I don't know much about this. so if someone could let me know which the best viewing experience, ripped or original discs. I would really appreciate it.. thank you for your time
videonut 12-18-11, 09:41 AM If an ISO is ripped to a HDD or a blank Blu-ray disc without the use of any compression, there is no quality loss whatsoever. In some instances, extras and foreign soundtracks can be omitted in order to save space, i.e., ripping only the main title and leaving everything else behind.
Programs such as Anydvd by Slysoft or DVD Fab are quite capable at this sort of thing.
aguy1222 12-19-11, 06:00 AM I am new to coping blu ray movies, I have a collection of them and i want to make copies of them, I usually download copies of them online but I no longer want to download them. I would like to make 2 copies, one to a blu ray disc, and another copy to save to my hard drive I have hooked up to my ps3. I want to know what's the best program to make perfect copies of the blu ray movies so that it doesn't loss picture quality? Iv heard that some programs do such a bad job that the movie looks like a standard dvd. Also what's the difference between a ripper and decrypter? Please any help will me appreciated.

rippers simply rip the file/image - decrypters remove the 'keys' that allow you to watch the ripped file on any device. See the posts just above yours for software that does both.

Logic_BomB 01-18-12, 02:23 PM I've been out of the loop on movie backups for a while.
Is it currently easy/possible to do 1:1 copying of blu ray movies from BD to BD using a BD burner?
Is copy protection much of an issue?

Copy protection "is" the issue. You need software to decrypt it if you hope to use the copied BD on any device. There are software packs out there that take care of this (Slysoft's ANYDVDHD and DVDFab are two).
DL-BD's have yet to really come down in price. they've fallen from @$10 per disc to @$5. Single layers (movies under 25GB) are an affordable <$2 each.

Thanks. Sounds painless, albeit somewhat expensive still.
It would be nice if the media dropped in price like DVD's did...
Champion31337 02-09-12, 09:58 AM Hello everyone, I'm need for some advice that I can't quite figure out on my own 100% (not easily anyhow). I have been ripping, encoding, remuxing, transcoding, compressing, you name it, to nearly ever video codec you can imagine for several years now, so as you may assume/imagine, this request will be for either a difficult task, very specific task or both lol.
I have been ripping blu ray now for only about a year or less now, I have came across many apps that work very well, pretty good, decent, not so well, terrible and won't work lol The app that has seemed to do the job for me thus far via trial and error of all rest is DVDfab, but, as well as all of you know, once you have an addiction to something (home theater and movies lol) you (at least me in this situation) cant stop screwing with stuff till its PERFECT for mine/your liking. This is where my concern comes to play.
My concern is actually with subtitles. Now, I have been ripping blu ray up till last night via dvdfab and converting to MKV and all has worked so far (again except for my subtitle problem) however after doing some reading and experimenting around, I have found it to be a better idea to rip M2TS "pass through" while checking the subtitle box "display only forced subpicture". Now I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong here but the results are NOT giving me what I want as the subtitles are still there constantly throughout the movie (obviously I don't want that.
Now here's the thing. During the DVD era, I used DVD decrypted and DVD shrink and voila everything fine. Now, unfortunately, I stream virtually everything to ps3 but soon will be replaced by an HTPC running xbmc live. I am extremely flexible in the sense that I do NOT need a single program to do all this for me (I used 3 programs most of the time for doing DVDs) so my request is simple (and probably could have been address alone at the beginning without any of this lol).
I need suggestion as to what program(s) to used in order to rip a blu ray (regardless of format) into a file (here's the important part) that will show subtitles that will display on tv ONLY WHEN NEEDED (i.e. when actor speaks in language other then English and you need to read what they are saying) that all I need and I have NO problem using multiple programs to accomplish this, but DO what the subtitles permanantly burned into the video file.
Sorry about this looooooong post but I knew if I was going to get an answer, I need both an excellent source of advice AND to provide specifics.
Check the HTPC sub forum. Plenty of information over there.
steves40th 02-27-12, 05:07 PM What is the best format/size of a movie etc to burn to bluray disc, to be played in a stand alone player.
My kids destroy stuff easily. So, for DVD's I would rip them to the hardrive then burn them to DVD-R so they can have. When they destory them, I would just burn another copy.
Now, we have started upgrading to BluRays. I didnt realize some of these discs are up to 25GB, I guess I can put more than one blu ray disc on a disc.
Unknown user 02-27-12, 08:09 PM Someone PLEASE HELP
I just brought a external blu ray burner for my macbook pro and would like to make copies of my movies onto a blu ray disc. I have toast 11 with BD plug in. Most of my videos are in MKV formats. When trying to burn toast automatically starts to encode the video (which is 8Gb or higher, depending on the video) and it just takes FOREVER. Can't I just burn the MKV file to the blu ray disc without it going thru the encoding process or does it have to convert it to a different video format? I don't have a pc I only use Mac. What are my options? The movies are 1080P and already h.246 and I don't want too lose any quality. Someone pleaseee give me advice.
Thank You VERY much.

Most likely not. Some Blu-ray movies consume 25GB or even more for double layer Blu-ray discs which are 50GB.
SergeMonrois 05-09-12, 10:09 AM You can try Leawo BluRay Creator. They were among first in this king of software. And still the best.
I recently purchased a concert blu ray. Is there any way to copy only the audio onto CD? Or is there somewhere I can take the blu ray to get this done?
ps- the concert I purchased was not available in CD.
Thanks.
