Most newer TVs have component inputs. No certain type of TV specifically has components. Yes, HDTVs are guaranteed to have component inputs, but a lot of new standard TVs also come with them. Just look for a TV that you like and make sure it has the inputs before you buy it. It most likely will.

Also, it would not be hi-def gaming because neither the Gamecube or PS2 are capable of running games in hi-def. A few PS2 games upconvert to 1080i, but it's not real HD.

Go out and grab a sony XBR 970!!!! I just got it, and have had the 360 for about 7 months. The difference between standard and HD is remarkable!!!! The xbox 360 looks so good on the 970.

I have a GameCube and a PS2 hooked up to a 27" standard def CTR TV, then used DVE to tweak the picture settings. It looks fantastic. I know the hardware, especially the PS2, is pretty old for the computer world, but lots of games still amaze me- Final Fantasy X, X-2, and XII, Gran Turismo 4, God of War, and many more.

So yes, go with component cables if you can. It is a big step up from composite, and a small upgrade from S-video (which is really quite good w/ standard def).

You can probably get a new 27" standard def CRT w/ component inputs for a good price.

I have a HDTV, but my game systems aren't hooked up to it, so I can't help much there. Some systems / games do 480p, which certainly won't hurt picture quality.

Oh, I see you got a 360... That will work great with a HDTV, but don't neglect the old systems. They'll probably get a graphical boost with component cables.

Have fun.
