This is perhaps a question for the theory board, but it is coming up in conjunction with the HDQ so I'll try here first.

The HDQ puts out RGB only on its DVI output. I would be feeding this to the new RS-1 which of course takes HDMI/component. Its intenal processing is component as is true with most sources.

The question I have is: Is there a color degradation issue if you put a VP in the middle of an all-component chain resulting in a component-to-RGB transcoding in the VP followed by the reverse in the PJ? Or is it just a couple of matrix multiplies w/o precision loss so "move along, nothing to see here"?

(BTW, there is apparantly an issue in the RS-1's transcoding right now, but let's assume that's fixed.)

EDIT: One other point: I'll be using this just for V-stretch for CIH. So, when watching 16:9 I want the VP to just pass-through. I'm worried that in this case the image will undergo the pair of transforms needlessly when I just want a wire.
