Could there be any significance to the format war with the preview of Spider-Man 3 (owned by Sony) airing on NBC's Heroes (owned by Universal), or is it just because of the whole superhero theme?

beatboy77 noticed this last week and brought up the same topic... I think the thread was deleted for flaming or otherwise disruptive posts.

Does it mean Universal is going BD? Or does it mean Spider-Man 3 will be released on HD? Nah - I don't think this means anything. Just superhero movie + superhero show = good for profit.

No. A show about superheros is a pretty good place to run a commercial for a movie about a superhero. The marketing folks do have things to think about other than the BR and HD DVD format war.

Yeah, I rwalize that. I just wonder why they can't come to terms in the format war and help each other out there as well. Wait...am I advocating a Universal move to BD? :(

It's a network tv show. People buy advertising, on network tv shows. Boiled down, what this all means is, Sony bought a commercial during a popular network tv show.

ugh... :o

That probably means little or nothing, otherwise one could make a big deal out of Stan Lee's cameo appearance on Heroes a few weeks ago. Stan Lee is the creator of Marvel Comics for anyone unaware.

Buying a simple commercial??? Sure that makes total sense.

The fact that an additional exclusive 7.5 minutes of HD footage was available ONLY on the NBC website for the next 24 hours is what's surprising. Why does Sony give a main HD rival exclusive HD content on their website???

Symbiosis.

Demographics for HEROES and SPIDEY are a total match. Win-win for both parties.

I downloaded the 7 1/2 minute extended Spiderman trailer from NBC.com. I checked the PS3 store but it's not even there. What's up with that?

Probably a demand from Universal or a trade for running that commercial spot.

There is a relation ship of heroes to spidey's creator stan lee. As you all may recall he was on heroes recently. He actually was supposedly asked to consult on some character development for the heroes show. Aside from promoting each other I would say not much more to this than that.

This makes as much sense as suggesting that Halo might be headed for the PS3...after all, there is a Spider-Man 3 game headed to Xbox 360...

Heroes offered Sony a perfect target audience and charged Sony a price they were willing to pay to hype their summer hit...that is all.

This probably has more to do with DVD than HD optical.

Riiighht..... and on a similar note I heard that Universal's CEO has a sister whose boyfriend has a cousin that knows a guy who is an insider for Bluray, so I guess that Universal is going to drop HD-DVD now.

folks

it might be a sony paid flick but in the end...Mr Stan Lee has the final say.

Happens all the times in all industry. See Ford, GM Chrysler always having thier trade talks. Toyota doing "joint projects" with GM or Ford. Just because Sony is in a "format war" does not mean they don't talk with each other ;) You would actually be surprised how much the top "fellows" at each studio talk with one another.
