I'm really becoming a little weary of this whole cracking thing. I don't want to wind up with a bunch of movies where I have to send back to manufacturers just so then can send me a new one because the old ones got their keys revoked. I'd rather rent and let things settle a bit before resuming purchasing. and besides, it should be cheaper anyway.

Am I just being paranoid?

You don't havet to worry about that. It's the software player's keys that will be revoked.

Future newer disks will not play. I expect that the pure software player on PCs will probably have to go through some redesign using partial HW protection methods. The old disks are already compromised because the players are compromised, so they stay compromised and will continue to be playable on new as well as old cracked players.

That type of new playback architecture will probably make it slightly more difficult to find device keys or title keys in the future.

Old compromised software player that try to play new disks could also stop working even with the old disks, since the new disks can turn off the ability of the old software player to get the keys from the drives.

I notice that the new Asus W2PB notebook PC (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16834220106&ATT=34-220-106&CMP=OTC-17exta6) with HD DVD ROM has a "Trusted Platform Module(TPM)". Curious as to when Vista and PC based software HD DVD players will use TPM.

Hmmmmm looks like I've got Managed Copy whether the studios wants to deliver it or not.

Yes you are, your movies will still play fine. What's (probably) going to happen, is PowerDVD will get it's key(s) revoked and will at some point be unable to play new movies.

Of course, the more cracked the better IMO, I'm not buying movies (hardly even renting any even) until I can put them on my media server and stream them around the house. At the moment, I'm just waiting for decent software to handle DD+ audio and I'll jump in.
