Ok guys, today is the ship date for GRAW 2. I am hearing that some people have already picked up the game. I will be picking up my copy first thing tomorrow morning.

Does anyone already have the game? Do you plan on picking up the title?

Does GRAW2 support co-op over Live with 4 people on 2 consoles like GRAW1 did? My friends and I prefer team elimination over free-for-alls.

Yes. I played 2 player split-screen last night but it had the option for 4 player. With split screen the framerate did seem slower than GRAW1 split screen but it was still playable, then again it could have just been the levels being bigger, not 100% sure.

You'll love the new maps, they are awesome :)

The lobbies look the same, but I did look and they do have a clan lobby. I didn't set one up. Basically it has a message of the day and some other stuff, seemed like it would be pretty easy to use and navigate.

Sometimes review sites are under a gag order until the game hits retail. Expect GRAW2 to get very good reviews though. It seems much more polished than the original which was a very good game. I can't wait! If you have not down loaded the demos do so now.

I'm going to second the person who said they're having trouble getting into Vegas. I'm in that same boat.

I've only played part way through the first mission, I think. Its a good game, but I think I'm now "used" to the 3rd person from GRAW. Playing the weird "first person in the open, but 3rd person when under cover" is something I'm having a hard time getting accustomed to. Its like I keep wanting to stick to cover to remain in 3rd person...

I dunno, its weird. GRAW was non stop fun, but Vegas I really need to spend some quality time with....great game tho, definately one of the top 5 titles for sure.

Also having trouble getting into Lost Planet too.....

GRAW 2 may be something I get immediately into however...

I have been playing the multiplayer demo almost non-stop. I just wonder about the integrity of any website that is wiling to delay a review until the publisher says so. If they can make them delay a review then why stop there...

I would agree except the only reason the companies would give them preview copies is if they sign the agreement to keep the street date. If they didnt have that agreement then the company would just not release the game to them to play until after it was released or just before like with movies. Unfortunatly you need a little more time to accurately review a game then a movie. So if they want the eary copies they play by the rules. They are free to choose not to sign the agreement and play\review the game after official release.

Me too. I almost stopped playing the campaign but I am glad I didn't. I think the game get much better once you get to Vegas, albeit it does get a little repetitive (move to door, open door, throw frag in door, teammates move in, you follow, etc.). Despite that, I'm still having a blast. The setting is great and I think the artists did a great job duplicating the city. I've played through 3 levels.

Also, I think EB games might be offering a promotion as well. I can't access their website (my employer blocks gaming sites). I think you can turn in some old games (xbox and 360 games) and apply up to a 20% discount for GRAW 2.

I am 99% sure that is a misprint. I would be very interested to know if you can actually get it for that price. If it is true, they are selling it for $25 cheaper then the rest of the country. I don't think retailers make a profit of $25 per 360 game. In other words, they would be losing money on each game. Doesn't make sense.

I would agree with it being a misprint but I don't think it is since one person saw it advertised in TX and I saw the add in CA. I believe Fry's runs different adds for the different areas that they're in. Can also try to get Best Buy to price match.

Nice... so very nice... Love the new grenadier weapons and the new and improved night vision! I like the power of the pistol and LOVE LOVE LOVE auto-reload!!! Played solo through a couple of multiplayer maps - it'll be fun with some help. :D

It'll take me some time to get down the new trajectory on the grande launchers though - and it seems like the blast radius was decreased a bit compared to GRAW's 'nades.

I usually only play as a grenadier - so the only thing I'm not thrilled about is having to use A+Dpad to choose toggle between bullets and grenades. I'll have to hit the controls screen and see if I can set it to GRAW controls. I was CONSTANTLY hitting B and switching between pistol/machine gun.

Picked it up yesterday afternoon, local BB had several in stock. Finally had an excuse to use the BB gift card (I hate BB). I only had a few minutes to try it out last night, so I went through the new training section and started the first level.

I really liked GRAW 1 but was also a little disappointed with some of the graphics and game controls, esp. weapon switch. My initial impression is GRAW 2 fixes both of these things and is very smooth and seemless to play. I will post an update after I have made it through at least 25% of solo missions in normal difficulty and have had a chance to try online play.

I would expect this to be a big hit and consider it a must have.

After checking out the review over at gametrailers' website I've become quite interested in the series. Mind you I've never touched a Tom Clancy series shooter so I might be in over my head. Since all you fellas here are fans of the series what suggests do you have for a gamer that plays CoD, Quake, and just pretty much any FPS that doesn't require tactics of any kind?

Avoid it like the plague...this game is all about ducking, covering, and making slow, tactical progress....there is no running and gunning.

But you said CoD...CoD does require tactics in that if you just stand there and shoot and don't at least duck behind objects, you'll get gunned down too :)

Man, I am really disappointed in the length of Campaign mode. I just beat it in about 5 hours and the ending is just terrible. The game was going along nicely and then boom its the end. Almost as if they ran out of time and they just ended it right there. When the credits started to roll I about ****. It is a very fun game but man this is disappointing..

Multiplayer is where they seemed to put most of there energy into this game.

Does GRAW 2 use the same engine as the campaign, or is it like GRAW: Where the single player game had the fancy moves and updated graphics, while the online portion was just an update of GR2 for the Xbox...without the "cover" system and HDR lighting and stuff...??

Gamespy review money quote: "the exhilaration of rolling through the co-op missions with pals simply can't be matched"

BTW, there's a CC coupon floating around that gives $40 off of any purchase of $200 or more. I bought 3 other games: Lego Star Wars, FEAR, and Crackdown; which I will probably return, keeping GRAW2 for an effective price of $40.

Reviewers did get the grenade toss right though. that is the dumbest animation I've ever seen. Reload and weapon switching isnt that hot either.

I'll prob go through single on my other account so I dont get interrupted with game req.

Dont see why people keep trying to compare it R6 games. thats CC and this is OC. Or Gears for that matter 'cause of the cover (or lack there of) system.

THE GOOD (read from reviews)

MULTIPLAYER MODE now uses the same graphical engine as Single Player Mode, complete with drooly-sexy graphics and HDR and stuff. YAY!

THE ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE (read from reviews)
YOU CAN COMPLETE THIS GAMES SP CAMPAIGN IN FOUR TO FIVE HOURS!?!?!?!
FOUR to FIVE HOURS!?!?!

WHAT!?!?

Thats just unacceptable for a $60 game, even with advance multiplayer and terrorist hunt modes (which could constitute single player content without a story to back it up)...........I mean I got it for free with credit, but that doesn't make the pill any less hard to swallow.

I guess the cool thing is that the co-op campaign has much bigger maps, you can co-op with up to 15 people on some of the maps and follow a side-story...

BUT I DONT CARE CUZ I'LL BE BEATING THIS GAME IN ONE CASUAL EVENING! :P

03-09-07, 03:32 PM
Hate to burst anyone's bubble, but multiplayer mode still does not use the same graphical engine as Single Player Mode. They did make use of some improved lighting effects, particle effects, and the like for the multiplayer, but it is not the same engine. It is an improvement over the original GRAW though.

Nevertheless, both the single player and multiplayer play fantastic. It would've been nice if they at least incorporated the cover system into multiplayer though. Still, this game is a must buy if you are a fan of shooters for both the campaign modes and the slew of multiplayer modes and maps. Enjoy! :D

HeadRusch
03-09-07, 03:35 PM
How is it different.......OH, are you suggesting its not the same because of the cover issue.
?????

IGN or Gamespot said it uses the same engine.....but like in GRAW, you could tell just by the way your character looked that it wasn't the same engine right off the bat.

beat it on a higher level. beginner level doesnt achieve anything except you running through it.

If yo beat it on the highest level you automatically get the AP for the other levels.

I dont know what mtk is seeing but single and online dont look different. The only difference is no cover online.

Co-op is seriously fun and addictive. the extra AP games (Ultimate defender, helo hunter) are cool as well.

after a few days of playing...it does most everything better than Graw 1, but its just more of the same....Graw 1 was my most played Live game, but Graw 2 only after a few days, I am getting the feeling of to much of the same.

i really want to get this but i freaking hate the cover system, with a passion.

it was cool enough in graw 1 (before rainbow six and gears) but now.... blah. i dont even think i can tolerate playing through it :(

its really not worth buying IMO. 60 bucks for a campaign half the legnth of the first graw. What a rip. The online is where they put all there effort. Pisses me off because I like a good campaign mode.

Ok, so, well that was quite short and I normally dont complain about length.
It doesnt help that the game on the medium setting was waaayyyy easier then the last game on the same setting. There are "secondary" objectives now and they up the challenge a little if you try to get them but only because you are usually trying to blow up fleeing vehicles with the wrong weapons and useless AI.

Hows the AI you say? The enemies seem a little smarter and will flank you. Your allies take cover a little better but are still basically morons. The Medic doesnt automatically go to heal down guys which is dissappointning seeing how its like his job and all but I guess we can give him kudos for not abandoning his post in a firefight. However I only had guys get hurt once or twice so the Medic was pretty useless and the antitank guy and sniper lady are much more useful to have around.

Graphics are very nice but the scenery is the same as last game. Explosions are nice, airstrikes are nice. Lots of weapons to choose from. No where near as many areas where the crosscom was fritzed out which is good. You main character Mitchell seems to be a bit of an azz and I would not be sad if he got blown up permanently and we went back to the old days of picking your entire ghost squad.

Game acheivement list definitly makes you think this game is all about online (co-op) or competative. They do have some quick mission stuff but as all that is uploaded to the "leaderboards" I will count that as an online mode too even though you can play it alone.

I liked the game as much as I liked the first one some of the set battles were very nice and their are multiple angles with which to approach situations. I was dissappointed in the length and it did give me the "expansion pack" feel in that respect. I would have been happier had I bought it at Frys for 35 then CC for 50.

Haven't had too much time to sit down and play. But Easy is way to simple, I got wounded once playing through the first Chapter. And I tend to run and gun at times, so that's saying something.

I restarted on the hardest setting, hopefully it will take a little more effort this way. At least I took a head shot from 200+ yards because I wasn't using cover.

Haven't played any MP yet.

Never tried the first Graw but I kinda like this one. Hate the lack of cover in MP. Hate the spawn camping that went on. Like all the weapons but had a hard time being a sniper on some of the maps. My reflexes suck for getting in close. I need to stay back and be patient.
But I have to say Gears spoiled me with the cover system. I prefer 3rd person since it doesn't make my eyes hurt like 1st person does, so I didn't get into Rainbow at all.

Does anyone know exactly what is on the chapter 2 download stuff on the OXM disk?
I installed but didn't have magazine with me to see what it added.

as someone who spends most of his GRAW time playing singleplayer, this game is pretty much awesome. the campaign is way better than GRAW1's. it's got way better level design, way better music, better visuals, and no annoying LOL HERE'S STATIC ON YOUR HELMET ZOMG! levels. the later levels in juarez and el paso where you've got infantry, armor, and air seem like a war, not just a skirmish like the first game.

the multiplayer is more of the same, but with better graphics. co-op is as fun as ever. i don't really get all the complaints about not having the cover system in multiplayer: what exactly are you going to take cover behind? it's mostly wide open maps with the occasional building. while it would have been nice, i don't really see how it's a game breaker to not have it. after playing gears and getting tired of rb6 vegas online, i'm glad this game has a different feel.

Not to sound like a downer on the game or anything but...has anybody experienced any freezing / lockups in the single player portion of the game? I am a little hesitant to buy it because I have read several threads on GameFAQs, Official Xbox.com and Ubisoft that have a lot of folks complaining that "every other game works fine except for this game". Seems like it is happening to folks with an older model of 360.

This happens with every new game released.

Gears of War, the first GRAW, Saints Row, R6: Vegas......they all "lock up my machine!".

Usually the more lockups you get the closer your system is to End-of-Lifing itself :)
Keep an eye on it....if it starts to lock up in the Blades menu system, get on the phone with microsoft and tell them that the system is giving you the 3 red lights and get a replacement shipped out.

Mine's is locking all the time. I bought mine on 1/1/06. i have a fan pointing on it right now to try to help. I read somewhere that the problem is the system is overheating. Every other game works fine

EDIT: Fan didn't help, locked up immediately

I had one lockup on my first play through.
I just finished the game on the Elevated Risk and did not have any lockups.

On another note, did I mention this game is a tad short. I played on Guarded Risk yesterday, taking my time, stopping to watch hockey and a couple of movies I finished at 2am. I picked it up for an Elevated Risk play through today. I was a little more dedicated to it not stopping for much but lunch and walking the dog a couple of times. I started around one and finished around 9. That seems like 8 hours but each dog walk was over a half hour as was lunch. Plus I tried again to get my idiot AI to help me destroy some of the fleeing vehicles on a couple of levels and that took a couple of tries. So I would say 5 hours on its hardest setting.

On the other hand, I had forgotten about the one area played in the rain, wish there was more, that was kind of cool. Air strikes are very cool as well as all the explosions. I did confirm that the medic was useless in SP by not using him at all. The sniper lady and the anti tank guy are the two most useful allies. I found I liked to have the sniper or that Storm gun with the scope and a P-90 as my backup for the firefights due to the 50 shot clips.

It is a fun game, just as much fun as the first one and I wil probably play the quick missions to finish off the fleeing vehicles and play on easy for the not getting shot acheivement. Also will play coop and some online. So for me I guess it was worth the money, it just would have been more worth it were it a little longer.

I hate, hate, HATE when a SP campaign is made so short however, its almost tossed in as an afterthought...but with some FPS's giving us 10+ hours of single player gameplay, especially on the harder levels, to release a game for $60 bucks and give you a 3-5 hour single player experience, thats just unacceptable for $60 bones.

Do they still have lots of maps to do Terrorist Hunt on, however? That you can do in Single Player? If its a super short SP campaign and no way to do terrorist hunt on the multiplayer maps, I'll return it unopened.

Funny how UBI's quarter profits was way down and now we get a short (unfinished) SP game, apparently to boost this quarters profits. UBI always patches and releases new maps several months after the game is released. Unacceptable in today’s market, which is another reason they are about to lose my support.

I loved the first Ghost Recon but I didn't care for the second. I'll pass on this one.

Hopefully, they won't blow it with Assassins Creed.

i thoguht it was great... yes, it is about MP.

someone earlier said this game isn't about running and gunning, and that made it bad... i disagree.

i liked the pacing change from the arcade shooters where you're just shooting constantly.

not every game is going to please every one.

the MP is the same engine, but the character models are less detailed. using/popping out of cover eats up a lot of processor time for the perspective shifts, so that's likely why that was eliminated.

The multiplayer alone is worth 60 bucks IMO. Get a good room full of people and play some co-op heli-hunt then try some 16 player, granades only, Hamburger Hill on one of the smaller maps followed by some pistols only deathmatch or some AK-47 only Territories. The options are endless with a little imagination you can get 60 beans worth of fun out of the MP alone. I do almost every night. :D

speaking of MP, how about posting some GT and shooting out some friend requests, so we can get some games going? you can post either here or on the GRAW2 clan thread. Either way, looking forward to some games.

I was also disappointed in the campaign length. I beat normal difficulty in just a few hours. I expect hard difficulty to not take much longer.

So far I am very impressed with co-op. On the hard settings those helicopters can be deadly. The only issue I see is with 3 players on one console the game gets a little laggy; time for MS to upgrade to a quadcore :p

finally got to play through single. AI help sucks. you have tell em where to go, who to shoot most of the time. I luv the MR-C with the cam, that was nice. Helo gun was much better, being able to shoot more and cool down faster.

Hopefully they take a yr or 2, upgrade to U3 or cry2 engine, make a true co-op campaign and add to the online. NBB guns and maps are a given...

i love not this game, but what it could have been. i read previews of this game where they mentioned that there would be all different types of terrain and weather. well it ain't there! plus, i think there must have been something goin on with thte reviews as they came out kind of late. probably, imo, so people would buy the game before they knew how SHORT it was! even on the hardest difficulty it's like 5 lousy hours. this is not GR2, it's an over-priced expansion pack! rent, DON'T buy!

yeah Id rather see 2yrs for new graphics and better single/co-op and AI. just tweaking and releasing yrly wont work for these games. thats what dlc is for.

if you only play solo, rent. if you have friends buy it. its that simple...

Well count me as one of those that have SP lock up on them all the time. Keeps locking up in training mode. So I decided to chose the "Skip Training" option and only a matter of steps into Mission one and it froze my 360 up tight.

This is an UBISOFT problem as far as I'm concerned cuz this is my only game that keeps locking up my 360. GRAW 1 never did! I'm pissed and I'm calling Ubisoft on Monday.

I'm only guessing here, but if Ubisoft has managed to load balance the 3 processor cores and making close to full use of the CPU power at any given time, the 360 will produce more heat. So if overheating is what cases freezes, it's Microsoft's problem and not Ubisoft's.
