I have an Integra DTR 7.7 receiver, a DPC 8.5 DVD/SACD player and a DPC 7.7 DVD player.
I have two problems.
1. Every time I hit the DVD button on the receiver, both the players fire up.
2. Every time, I hit any button on either of the DVD remotes, both the players fire up.

Here is my question.

If I buy the Harmony 550, can I program it in such a way that :
1. To watch movies, one DVD player fires up with the right mix and
2. To listen to SACDs, the other DVD player fires up with the right mix.

Please advise.
Thanks

You should be able to set up the 2nd choice (listening to Music) without too much hassle. You may want to look at the 670 much better layout for those with DVR's, etc...

Thanks for the input. I do have a DVR/HD cable box

Question, won't the IR codes be the same. I guess I just don't understand how it works. Can you please explain?
Thanks

Hang on, you have integra players!

This won't work.

Apparently you hooked up Integras proprientary link from the receiver to each DVD player, right?

WEll, what this does is it communicates with the DVD player. So that when the Receiver switches to DVD input it turns on the DVD player and starts it.

You are going to have to disconnect the proprietary link

You are correct in that the codes are the same for both players. So this won't work for you.

May I ask, is there a reason you have both the DVD/SACD player and the DVD player?

If you are going to keep them both you're going to need a remote that can set addresses. Meaning it will only send the signal to one of the players.

I'd recommend the URC MX-850 with a MRF-250. This combo will go for ~$250~$300 online. It may seem a little steep, but that's what's required to be able to seperate the codes between each player

Also, you can program everything so that one button does everything to get you going

I'd recommend the URC MX-700 with a MRF-250. This combo will go for ~$200~$250 online. It may seem a little steep, but that's what's required to be able to seperate the codes between each player

Thanks for heads up.

I have the SACD player hooked through the proprietary link but not eh DVD player.

The SACD player doesn't have HDMI and the DVD player doesn't have SACD.
The DACs are too good, hence I went with the two players.

If I remove the proprietary link, will I be fine.
Thanks

No, you'll still have the problem of controlling both devices at the same time.

Integra made it so that the codes for each player are the same exact. So the original remotes will still control both players.

I changed my suggestion for remotes. You need the MX-850, not the 700. The 700 doesn't have RF built in

BTW, HDMI isn't necessary. I'd go with Component.

The only time HDMI is need is for Blu-ray or HD-DVD

It is if you want to upscale DVDs no?

ASome DVD players such as Oppo will output the upscaled resolution on the component outputs also.

Just check the manual.

Poormanq45,
Will any RF based remote solve my problem. What do I need to look for when buying an RF remote.
Please advise.
Thanks

YOu need an RF unit that can do "addressing" meaing it can direct commands to exactly where they need to go.

Normally the signal is just sent out to all of the equipment. With addressing it is sent out to each individual seperately

poormanq45,

Took your advice, sort of.
Returned the Integra DVD player, retained the SACD player.

Instead bought a Toshiba XA2 HD-DVD. Used the HDMI and bought myself a Harmony 880 from BB (Price matched Amazon).

Couldn't be happier.

Thanks a bunch.

I was really hoping I could find this issue somewhere on here!!! I have the same situation with 2 of my 3 Sony Multi-Disc DVD players firing up at same time no matter what combination of 'remote switching' I try. REMOTE SWITCHING being the 3 set switch inside the remotes BATT compartment for seperate RF assigning to similar Sony componants - which doesn't seem to work for more than 2 similar Sony DVD players - Anyway if I get your meaning YOU CAN assign or 'address' RF signal to a componant that will be exclusive? Is this like creating a new dedicated RF signal to prevent overlapping or something?? If any of this is possible - what popular Universal Remotes out there are capable of that? HARMONY? Any info would be huge!!! Thanks JIM

You've basically got it about how addressing works.

I'd go with a URC MX-850 with an MRF-250 rf module. Can be had online for ~$250.

Or an MX-650. But this one is button programmed and doesn't have the latest codes.
