i know this is probably very remedial for all the pros in here, but just wondering what is the best way to hook up my dlp hdtv to my receiver, ps2, dvd player, etc..
i assumed using component cables for the ps2, hdmi for dvd to tv, and optical from dvd to receiver, and optical or coaxial from tv to reciever. sound right? or should i use the reciever as a spliter and have everything, cable from wall, etc go through that then out to tv? just confused as to the proper hookup procedure since im still waiting on my tv to arrive, any heads up would save me some time and of course some swearing. lol. also if i hook up dvd to tv hdmi that gives the tv the best digital audio/video, so how do i watch a dvd with surround if the tv is producing sound from the dvd as well as the reciever? ? again, sorry if this is a really stupid thread to start. if anyone has any suggestions or websites to visit, i would really appreciate it. thanks all.

my current dvd player has no hdmi output so i will be using component out from dvd to tv, instead of s-video. i assume that is correct.

Correct. Try not to use composite or S-video for anything (other than a VCR).
