View Full Version : DVD Storage
davidag02 03-06-07, 05:11 PM My DVD collection has outgrown my existing shelf system, so I am in the market for some media storage options.
What I would like to do is to get a wall mountable cabinet or rack that has slots for DVD's and CD's. It does not need to have a door on it, but I wouldn't mind if it did. The reason it needs to be wall mountable is because I would to move everything to the closet where our washer and dryer are, and it would all have to go above the washer and dryer.
Any tips on where to start looking?

davidag02 03-07-07, 10:50 AM Thank you so much for those links... it's a lot to look through, but it's definately got me going in the right direction. Some of that stuff I like a little too much... I'd better not show my wife that Boltz site otherwise I might have to buy a whole new bedroom set as well!
Static Wick 03-08-07, 02:52 AM I have a DVD rack from boltz and I'm happy with it. They have added several new products to their website. I can't believe they sell bedroom furniture.
I checked out the links pcdoctor gave but still couldn't find what I'm looking for. I'd like to use a couple of the component-sized (~17x17x7) compartments in my Techcraft stand for DVD storage; since these spaces are of a pretty 'standard' size ...which happens to be ideal for two rows of DVDs + 'clearance'... I figured some sort of drawer-style rack would be commonly available. The Mrs. suggested finding/employing a couple wicker baskets to serve as 'drawers' (which isn't a bad idea!), but racks like I described would be a better solution. Any ideas/advice where I might find such an item?
TIA

If you have a local Ikea - worth a look.
If you only need to store the discs there are cases which have great storage density, and do not scratch disc, unlike some wallets:

DuramaxH1Alpha 03-25-07, 05:56 PM Hi davidag02,
Our 1st post here :-) Been lurking here for a very long time. OK here goes. What we found to be a very modular wall mounted rack. ALPHA 512 series by AVMechanica. A tad pricey but worth the $$$ IMHO. Since this is our 1st post URLs are restricted till we make 5 posts.
FYI We bought 5 of them to accommodate our ever expanding DVD/CD collection. Ran out or wall space.

it looks like they will match my Middle Atlantic Slim 5 rack perfectly
how is the build quality and functionality of them?
anything else out there that is similar?
i kind of like the look of a metal rack over particle board
thanks!

PapaDon, that's a list that I used to update but I got tired of doing it. If I were a moderator I'd do it but...Maybe I'll update it again.
4Dthinker 09-09-07, 06:46 PM My vision of the perfect DVD storage rack is a big plastic bin in the basement. I invested in a huge hard drive and am in the process of backing up every DVD I own to that hard drive. With some free software it is easy to catalog all the DVDs and the software will look up cover art and movie data on the web. If you've got a VISTA PC or an XP PC with media center then you can quickly see your entire collection, sort or search, and play off the hard drive. I stuck a relatively cheap DELL PC in my living room rack and hooked it's video up to my HDTV. I can access those DVD files over my home network and play any one of them through the PC to my HDTV. Once all the DVDs are on my hard drive (and backed up again on another) I'll put the original DVDS and cases in that plastic bin, out of site.
