Well, for the past few weeks I have been on my own in the great state of North Carolina. I am soon to bring the wife and kidlets down. As well as all my junk. I have hired a "You Pack, We Drive" company, and am loathe to ship any of my electronics with them. So, How do I SAFELY transport my DLP? (Samsung HLR 4667w series). I do not plan on laying it down, as I have heard that is a no no, but how do I protect it from all the bouncing and jouncing? It will, realistically be in a large enclosed trailer, covered with a cloth, then wrapped in a large cardboard "homemade box".
I understand that it had to be shipped when it was new, but I didn't own it then... and would be covered if something went wrong. I still have a couple months warranty, but would be unable to return it to the original selling dealer. (Would they even cover a moving issue under warranty?)
Thanks in advance for anyone with a similar experience.

I moved my 43" HLN from CA to FL. I spent $100 to have the movers build a wood crate to carry it. They did a great job, put foam all away around the unit. It was going in a moving semi that was also carrying at least one other family's stuff. For me the money was well spent, I paid $3,200 for the unit when I bought it.

I bought a Samsung 42" DLP for my father last week and found that the boxed unit would not fit in the back seat of his car. We took the TV out of its shipping container and carefully placed it on the back seat and made it home with no damage. I left all the packing materials at the Circuit City store and I suspect other customers may also do this. I would suggest that you visit some BB or CC stores and see if they are trashing any TV shipping containers which would work for you. BTW, the new TV works really well.

Sell in on craigslist or something and buy a new tv when you get there.
Otherwise, just make that homemade box with a sandwich layer of cardboard/moving blanket/cardboard on the bottom to absorb shock.
Like the post above, I also moved a 42" sammy dlp in the back seat of my honda accord.

Did you move the TV in the backseat without a box or anything? Did it work out well? Did you cushion it with anything? If I go DLP, I'm gonna have to move it from my college apartment in Tallahassee to Naples in the summer.

Thanks for the replies thus far, stonecrd, you're the closest answer to what I need...HiDef, I may check into the box thing, thanks. This isn't just a cross town move, I'm talkin' like a thousand miles.
Anybody else??

I'm also interested, it's only a two hour drive back to houston from austin, but I'm gonna have to move it back and forth every summer. I wasn't thinking when the delivery guy delivered it and he left with the box. So i've been wondering how i should move it. I'm probably just gonna but it in the back seat of my F-150 and put blankets over it, and pray.
