Is this a good idea? PCI wifi to USB Wifi in exchange for 1394?

Finally decided on buying the motherboard that I'm keeping. ASROCK Conroe945G-DVI. Sweet board but no damn 1394 connection arghhh. Well anyways, it has 2 nicely spaced PCI slot away from the PCIE 16x and the PCIE 1x (which I'll never use) so I'll have my tuner card in one slot and currently a PCI 802.11g adapter.

Currently have an external 500gb drive connected via USB, I want to add a 1tb firewire to my system. Is it worth to go USB 802.11g adapter and buy a PCI 1934 adapter just for this purple?

Cheaper alternative would be buy a two 500gb sata drive and slap it in there along with the 300gb sata already there.

Neither usb2 or firewire are as fast as SATA internal or PATA internal. There's a third option though... External Sata. Some motherboards are shipping with ESATA adapters included or you can buy them they're not expensive really.
It gives external storage at internal speeds.

There is no speed difference between usb or pci wifi, both are equally slow. :)

However I'd just go sata or pata internal since that's cheapest and add a good quiet case fan to keep the extra heat down.

That's an excelent advise ESATA, why didn't I think of that.

U think adding 2 additional sata drive to my NmediaPC 280BAV4 case will heat it up too much? CPU is running @ 90 degrees all day long at the moment.

IF you have to stack two or three drives in the same cage they need some air blowing on them. If there's already a fan in front of the drive cage then no problem. If there is no fan that will directly blow on them then add one.

It's not so much that they'll heat up the case internals, but that they'll run too hot for their own good when sharing the same drive cage without direct airflow over them.

That should mean it already has a fan on the drive cage, if so, no problemo.
