I just finished a conversation with a Harmony CSR/Tech. I learned something I never new before. If I sell a remote that I own, and it hasn't used all of the warranty time (ie it's 4 months old 8 months left) the new user has NO WARRANTY AT ALL.
Excuse me??? What other physical product is joined at the hip to the user? It has a serial number so it's trackable. What is with them? Is this a Logitech thing? I've never heard of something like this before? I've Ebayed my things and transfered warranties no problem? Why are they special? I was considering a 1000 but now have to reconsider big time! If I can't change my mind and cut my losses with Ebay, no way man.
I couldn't find this discussed, if I missed it, sorry for the repost!

I've never heard of something like this before? You must have been sleeping under a rock!

Many, many products are warranted to the original purchaser only! InFocus projectors immediately come to mind.

Joe,

"Most" warranties for electronics are to the "original purchaser". My Panasonic and Klipsch manuals stated it this way. I bet if you look in your owner's manuals, most will say the same thing.

I would say transferable warranties are the exception and not the rule. Other than extended warranties on automobiles and a few other products, most warranties are for the original purchaser only, as others have said.

Here, I would like to jump in and give credit to the Harmony remote warranty folks. I have a 676 that developed a problem with one of the buttons. I called their support people. They promptly exchanged the remote for me, even though it was several weeks BEYOND the warranty period. Great job!
