View Full Version : TV going for repair, advise
curtishd 03-07-07, 09:44 PM I have a 48" Mitsubishi WS-48315 RP CRT. I bought the extended warranty which expires in June of this year. Currently the TV has a green tint, I call it the Matrix effect. You can see it when a dark seen is present like the night sky in Superman Return the sky is a dark green. Also, the geometry is off so that when displaying the convergence grid you can see the bowing at the top of the screen.
Now, the repair guy stated he would need to take it to his shop to fix it. I have heard stories where the hdtv comes back even worse any advise? I will take pictures showing condition and no burn-in.
My in-laws had an older RP CRT and it could not be repaired due to lack of parts, do you all think that this maybe the case here and again any advise?
videobruce 03-08-07, 08:15 AM First issue appears to be just a grey scale adjustment. The second should/could be due to the first. Neither should require the set to be removed from the house.
Have you looked for other shops??
curtishd 03-23-07, 07:44 PM Here is an update: After have my TV at the repair center for 2 weeks I got a call today stating that the problem is unresolved after one part was ordered. Which problem I am unsure as the tech speaks broken english. I was told that he wants to reorder the part in case it was the wrong part so I am without a tv in my living room for possibly 2 more weeks.
I purchased the HDTV at Ultimate Electronics in AZ and was wondering if anyone here ever had an "unrepairable to like new" tv from EU and what the next step for either getting a replacement or a refund, length of time invloved and any advise you have?
PS. It is not possible to ask for a different tech as I already did that and was denied.

Did you have more than one local shop to choose from?

I am in the Bay Area California. As for more than one shop I don't know, I was told when I called my warranty that this company would fix my set. I am just waiting.
videobruce 03-25-07, 08:59 AM You never called for a list of authorized shops?? There HAS to be more than one.
curtishd 03-25-07, 04:55 PM No, I have a extended warranty and the warranty company called the repair tech based on my location but yes he is an authorized tech. and prior to this how would I have known it would be this much a pain.
videobruce 03-26-07, 08:02 AM Research before you sign up foe a EW. Find out just who would be doing the work and if you have a choice. There have been many threads on this already.
Sorry for you to find this out now, but unfortunately, you aren't alone in thinking just by having a EW, ALL is automatically taken care of.
curtishd 03-26-07, 04:50 PM I know, I know. Thanks videobruce for the advise and rest assure that will be done from now on. As of today the repair tech stated that he is waiting for the par but the tv might not be 100% fixable "but it isn't that bad", so this worries me that I may not get a replacement set of my money back.
Anyone else have advise?
Hipnotiq 03-27-07, 12:21 PM hard to say with the information provided, but I would have thought an adjustment was all that was needed.
What part is he wanting to replace?
curtishd 03-27-07, 12:23 PM Who know's, this guy is making me nuts. He said something is leaking. I just want to watch HD in my living room.
curtishd 04-02-07, 03:37 PM Okay got my tv back and guess what it is still green! TV came back and did some testing with various material and looked green and the tech did some adjustments and it was a little better. I basically wanted him to leave as that is the best he can do. Next I called the warranty company and they want to send him out again! So he is set to come on Friday.
It is difficult for me because I see it and wife see's it sometimes but it is clearly too green BUT the tech thinks it look fine. Greens look neon and certain dark blacks or blues look green tinted. So here we go again!
