View Full Version : Sony Grand Wega replacement bulb
fasttimes 03-07-07, 10:36 PM The other day I turned my unit on and got the buzz/no-start problem. The sound works fine, but no picture whatsoever.
The led blinks green for a bit, then blinks red, before shutting off. The lamp light never comes on at all.
Does this indicate there might be a problem other than the lamp? I'd hate to replace the bulb and find out that wasn't the problem, because the cost of replacing the bulb and then having to make additional repairs would override the cost of getting a new set.

How many hours on the existing bulb, what year/model is the set and have you noticed any dimming recently?
MrMike6by9 03-08-07, 08:04 AM My set is a Oct. '03 GWIII. The lamp should cost around $225 with express shipping from Sony. I replaced my still working lamp at about 6,000 hours. The old lamp went into closet in case of emergency repair. The replacement takes about 15 minutes of your time. The most worrisome part is removal of front panel. It feels like you're gonna break it before the plastic fittings release. It's best to use the new lamp since it typically has a 90 day warranty. My optical block was replaced under the EW in January after developing the infamous etch-a-sketch blob.
BTW - when I searched, I found a local retailer that carried the lamp, about 14 months ago, that is located in Laurel, MD.

I got the set from my dad, I think he bought it in 03. I'll check the model # when I get home. Not sure how many hours are on it, but since it is 03, it probably had quite a few on it.
The only thing that has me wondering is that the lamp LED isn't going on.

There is a GWIII thread which should contain the answers you are looking for. First do a search, and if that doesn't do it you can repost this question on that thread.
Sounds like the lamp. If it is an '03 unit it is probably a Grand Wega III. The lamp is also available from Crutchfield.
fasttimes 03-08-07, 04:32 PM I found the manual.
The Model # is KF-42WE610. It only says "Grand Wega"
Does anyone know what model this is?" GW, GWII, GWIII, etc?

This is a III. As I mentioned there is a very large thread on this forum. You could do a search, or simply read the thread list.
