HI all, ... I purchased the best TV in the world last year , Feb 2, 2006, .. from HHGregg, and also bought the extended 5 year Warranty.

Now, .. 1 year and 2 weeks later, ... I get the dredded "Green Blob" problem, and also have the intermittant "Solid Green Screen" when the set is first turned on problem as well. I called for service, ... read the forums here, ... see that SOny is replacing the sets with teh newer XBR2s, .. yet HHGregg and the Sony Warranty repair center are acting like they've NEVER HEARD of this problem before!

I'm not comfortable with keeping the set now, after having read all the problems with these sets. My question is, is there someone specific that I call at Sony, .. who will admit to the problem, and help me get my set replaced? The authoirized Sony repair center , TOPS ELECTRONICS , .. says that they need to "Take the TV" back to the shop and perform the change of the Light Engine, .. and another board for the greeen screen problem, ... just like SONY wants them to do, ... yet this approach would seem futile as the problem always comes back, doesn't it?

So far, I'm getting NOWHERE being NICE and trying to do what these people tell me. HALP!!!!!!!

thanks

Don't worry, you have the 5 year warranty. Let them fix it once and see what happens, in the meantime just call sony support and hound them for a replacement. If the first fix doesn't do it, tell Sony you are fed up. Your TV has been taken from you for repairs, even after you paid for at home warranty. The longer you wait, the cheaper the xbr2 will be. They wanted me to pay 1300 dollars to get an xbr2 when my xbr1 failed. I am taking a new 60a2020, the xbr problems scare me now. good luck.

Just quickly looking at your photos I can see the picture is very green. Obviously something has changed drastically since it was new to give it this green cast. What you see there however, MAY not be the green blob so many speak of. The green blob usually affects one or more areas of the screen only and is not nessarily a green blob, but an area thats more green than the rest of the screen. With yours it's hard to tell. It certainly is very green! Have you tried adjusting the white balance in the advanced adjustments? Is the same green coloration seen in all viewing modes - pro, normal, and vivid? What I would try, if you have not already, is to put the set into pro mode, in the video menu TURN THE COLOR DOWN TO ZERO then find the advanced menu and go to white balance. The adjustments there are Red, Green, and Blue GAIN and Red, Green, and Blue BIAS. The gain adjustment sliders control the overall tint of white and bright content in the picture and the bias adjustment sliders control the overall tint of the dark and shadow areas of the picture. Using the gain controls, at least one or more of the sliders should be all the way up. When adjusting bias, sliders should normally centered around zero. If one bias adjustment needs to be severely adjusted, you might try splitting the difference by moving the other bias controls in the opposite direction. The bias and gain controls interact somewhat so you may alternate between the two until your picture appears to be (ideally) just black, white, and gray...not green or pink or blue... Once you are closer to a neutral gray picture you can look for green patches... It is remotely possible that your TV only needs the colors balanced although given the history of these sets, I do have doubts........ Let me know.

the green is a large circle coming down from the top of the screen and covers just about everything except the lower left and right corners. Three weeks ago, it wasn't nearly as bad. and Yes, I've tried adjusting the controls to no avail. The reason these photos look even worse is because I had the set adjusted to "warm" ... having it on cool makes it a liitle better to watch, ... but, ...... :(

thanks again

Funny this thread should be near the top. The TV repairman just left. He had to replace the light engine because my whole screen was yellow and the color could not be adjusted at all! He said he was going to do another one after left my house. He also said he was replacing them quite frequently. Luckily my repair was covered under an extended warranty

at least you will be ready for st. patrick's day (i hope you took that in good fun). sorry had to say it, but i would be po'ed to if my tv looked like that. the only thing i could say is hope it breaks /has the same problem two more times so you CAN get a new tv. i am sure hh gregg has a no lemon warranty that if it's ben fixed 3 times and still has problems they will replace it correct? also if your tv will be at the repair shop for more then 2 weeks i would demand a rental tv or a new tv. just keep calling if they keep giving you the run around. good luck and i hope you get your tv back in working order soon!

Footnote:

After quite a few phone calls to the Customer Service department at HHGregg, they gave me a full credit and allowed me to return my XBR1 and purchase another TV set.

Thanks again to Jessica at HHGregg's Customer Service department!

Wow...another alias for the troll.

Troll or not, he's not entirely wrong. The problems with the OBs on these sets are well documented. (I own one).

Help, my screen is green and yellow mixed. i can't adjust the color so i'm thinking it's the light engine. I purchased my TV on the internet and also purchased the 5 year warranty, but the store closed down. I called Sony and they don't have no record of my 5 year warranty:( My question is can i purchase this light engine elsewhere besides sony and can i install it myself?

Please help, my family is complaining of too much green and yellow.

Thanks again for your help! My family and I are very happy and pleased with our TV. God bless.

After several contacts to SONY I shopped last May for a new lamp. They said this was my problem and I believed but it did not work. I found this forum and the problem of my friend in Indiana is exactly like mine. I donīt have the blue color working anymore and so I get a lot of green and yellow in my colors. My question is, how long did they take to solve the problem and what was the process to solve it. I just want to make sure I follow the right steps when I call them, as being in Brazil I am afraid they may try to make it harder for me. My family is also tired of green and yellow TV... Please Help. :( Tks, Chicco65
