Try it in a year and you will punch yourself! But hey, we are enjoying them now and that's all that matters. Todd Scott 03-08-07, 12:38 PM I have learned that everthing I buy goes on sale AFTER I buy it. So I don't look at prices after the purchace anymore. It's less painful that way. JS-44SDS 03-08-07, 12:42 PM at least we didn't buy a 10K plasma 2 years ago. Frost147 03-08-07, 12:54 PM You're just human, Kev - get over it:) :) Kr8z1 03-08-07, 12:57 PM Many stores have at least a 30 day price guarantee policy, so checking for any sales/reductions within this time frame is prudent. If the price goes down within 30 days, go back to the store and get some $ back. I've done it a few times with other purchases - at CC, BB, or even Home Depot. dlconner 03-08-07, 01:16 PM I did for 60 days, but only at BB to make sure they didn't drop it below the price I got it for, (was 99% sure they would never touch that, but never hurts to check ;) ). slb 03-08-07, 02:22 PM do you ever go back and check the current price on your set for couple weeks after you bought yours? i know i shouldn't but i just can't help it. I just did! VA's current price on the Panasonic TH-50PH9UK is $40 MORE than I paid for it in November. However, Panasonic was also offering a $100 rebate at that time, so I will actually have paid $140 less than the current price once I finally recieve the rebate check. -Steve Marky_Mark896 03-08-07, 02:26 PM Congrats on the good deal slb. bswiz 03-08-07, 02:34 PM I am bad about always checking prices for a while even after I buy. I just finally ordered my plasma a couple nights ago and my fiancee' even said "Does this mean you will stop looking at prices now?" since I had been searching for a few weeks. Little does she know I am still checking prices, I don't know why I torture myself! Just as a point of reference - my father paid about $2300 for a Panasonic 37PX60U last year. Now you can find the 42" same model for about half of that. Crazy. mattg3 03-08-07, 02:46 PM Paid 4 grand for my 433 pioneer four years ago.the idea sucks now but for the first two years i was so in love with my plasma I would have bought it for same price again.i will probably make the same economically stupid decision again when i see the new superplasma. Rammitinski 03-08-07, 02:46 PM I saved my brother-in-law a couple of hundred bucks by stopping in the place where he bought the ED Panny, before 30 days were up, awhile back. Maybe to some, a couple hundred bucks don't mean all that much, but it did to him and my sister (with 2 high school age kids and an obscenely huge property tax bill), and they were extremely grateful for and happy about it. RandyWalters 03-08-07, 02:55 PM Many stores have at least a 30 day price guarantee policy, so checking for any sales/reductions within this time frame is prudent. If the price goes down within 30 days, go back to the store and get some $ back. I've done it a few times with other purchases - at CC, BB, or even Home Depot.Exactly - i checked CC's website several times during the first month after buying my PX50U and 3 weeks into the 30 day guarantee they had a sale. I called and got $350 credited to my credit card :D optivity 03-08-07, 03:26 PM do you ever go back and check the current price on your set for couple weeks after you bought yours? i know i shouldn't but i just can't help it.Don't stop there... PDPs cost about half as much as what I paid for mine two years ago. ;) slb 03-08-07, 03:33 PM Congrats on the good deal slb. Thanks. In contrast, I remember when we bought our first plasma (Panny 42" ED model) in 2003 for $3500. Six months later, it could be had for less than $2500. But I didn't really care then or now; I got what I wanted for the price I was willing to pay and I was never disappointed in my choice. :) -Steve Lee Stewart 03-08-07, 03:43 PM I guess it is just a question of what your confidence level at the time of purchase was. If you felt confident that homework was done, you knew you were getting a good deal at the time of purchase . . . then why bother? We all know the price is going down . . and as mentioned, if the, "you should've waited 30 more days" concern comes up . . . no problem, you can get back the difference (most times). FACT: There is one consumer item . . . and only one . . . that has dropped in price EVERY year since 1975 . . . . the color TV. Go Over to the thread concerning 70+" FPD's and see a post where compared to LAST year, an LG 71" FPD had an 80% price reduction, between then and now. And for the guys still checking prices after purchase, read the agreement you signed or get a copy of the store's policy on a price lower than you paid . . . for the exact same make and model, find out the DDD (Drop Dead Date), the day you purchased the set. Add the stores policy (30 days, 60 days, 1 day, whatever) and the day after that . . . you don't need to look anymore. jspirate 03-08-07, 04:04 PM Paid 4 grand for my 433 pioneer four years ago.the idea sucks now but for the first two years i was so in love with my plasma I would have bought it for same price again.i will probably make the same economically stupid decision again when i see the new superplasma. Can we get an Amen? :D Lee Stewart 03-08-07, 04:21 PM Amen Brother! :D Enigma869 03-08-07, 07:17 PM I bought my 50 inch Panasonic plasma from Circuit City last August for $3600. I left it packed in its original packaging, as I'm moving out of state and know how expensive it is for a moving company just to crate these things. I had no idea it was going to take me 6 months to sell my home. The closing on my existing home takes place one week from today. The Panasonic is still residing in its original box and still brand new. We all know how much that tv sells for now!!!!!!! It kills me to think about it, but such is life! John from Boston Lee Stewart 03-08-07, 08:22 PM John: Now would be a good time to introduce this article that just came out in TWICE (This Week In Consumer Electronics): http://www.twice.com/article/CA6422230.html It specifically address's what is occuring in the FPD marketplace and how the manufacturers are very dsipleased with what has happened to prices . . . but more important, the profits in the manufacturering and selling of FPD's PS My old stomping grounds - went to Babson College. Elemental1 03-08-07, 08:52 PM I was just checking and when I actually found one in stock (rare), it was only a little less than I paid almost a year ago. I guess that is a good sign. :D shlinmd 03-08-07, 10:10 PM i did. mine went up by almost $600!!! Mr. Fat Cat 03-09-07, 04:05 AM I'm sure I'll check from time to time, but I got a pretty sweet deal from Newegg on the 42PX600U :D. With new models coming out it probably won't be in stock much longer anyway. It is amazing to me how much the prices have dropped over the last couple of years (my Dad paid over 4k for his Mitsu DLP in '04). Even a year ago HDTV was still in the "when I win the lottery" category for me, and here in the next few days I'll be taking delivery on my plasma. Lee Stewart 03-09-07, 08:29 AM 13 million happy HDTV buyers in 2006 . . . could go as high as 25 million for 2007. And the manufacturers are crying all the way to the bank! NathanC 03-09-07, 11:09 AM Bought my 42" Panasonic plasma around 11 months ago. For that same amount now i could buy a Pioneer PDP-5070. And i got a really good deal on the 42" at the time. Amazing how these prices drop. Would i have traded a year of watching my plasma just so i could buy a bigger TV now? Definitely not. That year of having a great TV was well worth the $1k or so i could have saved. yakuzaboss1975 03-09-07, 11:56 AM do you ever go back and check the current price on your set for couple weeks after you bought yours? i know i shouldn't but i just can't help it. i did regularly for about 3 weeks after i purchased my pio 5070. the first 2 weeks, the price stayed the same. the third week, the price dropped $300. so i went back to FS with my receipt to collect the difference. shasta 03-09-07, 01:57 PM do you ever go back and check the current price on your set for couple weeks after you bought yours? i know i shouldn't but i just can't help it. Absolutely, I saved $400.00 by tracking the price on my 50PX60U. I bought it with a 60 day price matching policy, found it for $400.00 less about three weeks after delivery. Nothings is nicer than putting $400.00 bucks back in your pocket, it's like "Found Money". Never buy without a price matching policy, ever!!!!!!!! Elwood_Blues 03-11-07, 09:39 AM Anyone ever do this with online purchases; such as forum sponsors? atLast 03-11-07, 03:28 PM Not really in the same thought process you are. I don't really get into memberships, coupons or any of the sort. If I like something and justify the price, I buy it. That's just me, others may see things another way. I will say though that when I see something that has a price lower then what I got it for I think wow, there getting a good deal or that thing still isn't worth that, what a piece of junk. ptysell 03-11-07, 03:47 PM Yes I do but for different reasons. I usually buy what I want. If I want something I usually want more than one of it. If I find a good price then I will buy it again. I recently purchased a TH-50PH9UK for a good price. I found another one for a better price and I am now thinking about buying an additional unit for a different part of the house. I rarely buy high end items from bestbuy or curcitcity so the 30-days thing really does not apply. diceburna 03-11-07, 04:08 PM do you ever go back and check the current price on your set for couple weeks after you bought yours? i know i shouldn't but i just can't help it. Always....sometimes I come out on top and sometimes I get played RYAXIN 10-14-08, 03:56 PM I bought my TV from Leons. Their policy states that if you find it cheaper elsewhere with the same terms (within 30 days from purchase date) , they will refund you the difference. I have already found 2 locations that sold the TV for cheaper, I got $100 discount because of BB, and an additional $100 discount because of FutureShop, which was cheaper than BB. $200 savings!!! So depending on the store policy it pays to look out for any price drops within the first 30 days. sebadooo 10-14-08, 06:53 PM I paid $1329 for a plasma on amazon.com yesterday. I noticed it went down $7 in 2 hours. Then it went down $7 more this afternoon. I called amazon and the dude from India says they'll only credit my account if it's more than $20. So I call the American line, and she tells me they don't price match anyone, including themselves. Not ecstatic about their response, but so long as there aren't any pixel defects, I can live with it. Don't they know I could just ask for a refund and rebuy for the discount? But then again, with the way things are going, maybe they'll tell me their policy prohibits refunds after item has shipped. CCityEmployee 10-14-08, 08:10 PM cc is 60 days Toolman00 10-15-08, 03:11 AM I checked Best Buys site after I purchased my XBR4. I got it for $3000 (Jan 2008). I never saw it hit $3000 (at Best Buy) until late summer, which is about when they stopped carrying the XBR4. lazerfan 10-15-08, 05:34 AM I always check with Best Buy and Futureshop for the 30 day period after I make a purchase. It's prudent as I almost always get a price adjustment. Every week these stores have rotating sales. I helped a friend buy a plasma and sound system at Best Buy last month. Watching the weekly prices he got a price match on the tv and the following week, got back $113 on the sound system. Why not take advantage of such a great policy? swifty7 10-15-08, 07:04 AM I remember the price for my tv going down by $500 after purchasing it from Best Buy, luckly I was within my 30 days and was able to get the difference back....from 2500 to 1999. I was soooo happy it made my day and to think I was very happy purchashing a tv with a retail cost more than 3k for 2500. What made me even happier was that the price went back to 2500 shortly after the sale. optivity 10-15-08, 07:43 AM do you ever go back and check the current price on your set for couple weeks after you bought yours? i know i shouldn't but i just can't help it.No, but if you are going to participate in Forums such as AVS it is inevitable you will be aware of these things. All digital home entertainment equipment follows the same pattern: Highest price when newly released, lowest price when last year's leftover. Your best bang for the buck is achieved when buying the prior year's model. Hersheytx 10-15-08, 08:26 AM I have another week before I get my Panasonic 65 850U from a highend dealer here in Dallas. I got a Best Buy coupon for 12% off. Which this store matched. Last week I went to Best Buy (Tv still not delivered) and noticed they had reduced the price of the TV by 300 dollars. I talked to the Best Buy guy and he says he will give me 12% off that price and deliver it the next day on Sunday. So I am excited and want it now. Run down to other place to cancel order and get Tv from Best Buy (Plus I would get my Reward Zone points). I get there and the head guy of the place is there making deals. Hears my story and give me another $1000 dollars off to make me keep the order. Well I take the deal and continue to shop. I figure he was nice enough to give me an even better deal I might get some speakers and receiver too. Long story but the reward is there if you keep your eyes open. Never know when you can make more money by checking prices. Swerve 10-15-08, 08:55 AM I have another week before I get my Panasonic 65 850U from a highend dealer here in Dallas. TimBob5259 10-15-08, 10:37 AM I bought my 42inch panasonic for only $5500 in 2002. It's especially disappointing that I paid so much considering it is now a paper weight. I called a local electronics repair shop & they had the repair cost estimate jacked up to $500 w/o even looking @ the TV. They sure don't make them like they use to. |
