I need some help with this one.
I am giving my Brother In Law my Toshiba 50H81 but he lives in arkansas and I live in Virginia.
I am at a loss for how much movers want to move the thing, most are over 1K dollars.
I dont have the box it came with so if I shipped it, I would need to make some sort of crate for it, wouldn't I?

Does anyone have experience in shipping an item like this and what should I realistically expect to spend to get it shipped?

Thanks for any help.

I've never shipped an item like this, but I did have my Toshiba 56H80 shipped to me by truck. This was about 6 years ago and I believe it was $350 for the shipping.

The TV was delivered in a thick cardboard box with a wooden frame on the bottom of it. The driver unloaded the TV off his truck and left it on the very end of my driveway - right next to the street. He refused to help me get the TV across my 50ft flat, concrete driveway and into my garage - even though I called his supervisor and his supervisor told him to help me. I had a fun time of covering the TV with a tarp during rainstorms (it was raining that day) and running out and slowly pushing a 325lb box toward my garage. You might want to tell your Brother In Law to have a couple of friends ready or at least a set of hand trucks to help him get the TV inside.

A few years back, I had some of my mother's furniture shipped from Kansas City, Mo., to my brother's house in San Diego, CA. The items I sent were wooden and generally smaller than your Toshiba.

I used one of those shipping places that will pack/package your items for you. They mainly charged by size....there may have been weight involved, but I don't remember. Anyway, I also insured my items through them. All the pieces arrived at my brother's home without damage in about a week. Check in your local yellow pages under "Shipping Services"....there should be plenty of choices for you to check out.

Also, my next door neighbor recently had a large replacement part (4 x 3 x 2) weighing about 200 pounds shipped from Portland, Oregon, to Kansas City, Mo., at a cost of about $200. I wouldn't think that your Toshiba would cost significantly more than that.

thanks for the suggestions. Right now most places are quoting me more than the TV would sell for. UPS and Fed Ex are pretty expensive too.

Anyone ever use http://www.USHIP.com to get an item shipped?

Does anyone know where I could get a Box that would fit a Widescreen TV? I am at a dead end after calling local places and checking online...
