View Full Version : Such a thing as pixel perfect in a PJ?

Hi all.

Have a Z4 (2nd bulb at 100 hours) that has some major convergence issues. Been sent to Sanyo twice already and I'm not happy about the red convergence being off as much as it is. Sanyo claims that the convergence can be off by 1/2 a pixel (on dead center-and worse as it gets to the edges of the screen). That's not much when your viewing a tiny screen, but on a 120" it's massive, it's almost 1/4 -1/2" off on the big screen. I'm somewhat picky about the quality of my picture (ok, big time picky). I work in the Film and Video industry and working on pristine HD video, I can spot everything wrong with my PJs picture.

So my question for you guys, is there a PJ that's pixel perfect? Perhaps when a channel convergence is off, a manual (at home) fix could be done (kinda like a RPTV)? Gonna look into some new 1080p PJs and I wonder if I'm gonna have this problem in the future.

I like the new JVC, but why do they have to put these projectors out with such low lumens???

Thanks all.

I think you should re-check your math. A half pixel width on a 120" screen with 1280 resolution is about .04". That's four hundreths of an inch.

You may need to look at a hi end single chip. For someone in the industry your undertanding of pixel sizes is way way off. With 1/2 pixel error of 1/2 inch your screen size would be around 110 FEET.

ANY DLP! No convergence issues, no uniformity issues, no dead pixel issues.

Not true. Any 3 Chipper can have convergeance issues, no matter the technology.

All I can say is the red convergence is off by a 1/2" on a 120" screen.

Brought the pj back from Sanyo yesterday and it's a little better, not perfect like I was hoping for.

If that is the case it is off by a good few pixels, around 5 or 6 . It will be massively outside adjustment range. This is NOT normal MC... Get it replaced or refunded, it sounds trashed.

If it is off 1/2", then you are talking lots of pixels. Or, you aren't seeing pixel shift (CA?). If it was convergence, it would most definitely be defective.
