My RS1 just arrived and I hooked up both component out from a PS3 and my hd 250 Tivo.

Component works fine but the Tivo does not.

Here's the set-up. My previous projector had a DVI in and I use a Geffen 4x1 DVI switcher.

I am using an HDMI to DVI cable out of the Tivo into th Geffen switcher. Works fine to my current projector. I run a Better Cables DVI cable from the Geffen to the PJ.

I put a Belkin DVI to HDMI adapter to connect the Better Cable to the PJ.

I am getting a "signal out of range message" so no hand shake between the RS1 and the Tivo.

Sometimes this will happen with my current PJ but a reboot of the Tivo fixes it.

When it's rebooted the Tivo starts out at 480P (I think). I get a picture on the JVC then, but when the Tivo completes the reboot and returns to 1080i I lose the handshake. Any ideas short of getting a new HDMI cable and HDMI switcher?

Any ideas would be appreciated, thanks.

By the way, It is bright and it is quiet compared to my Virtuoso.

How long is the DVI cable that you are using going from the switcher to the projector? According to gregr from another thread, the use of a DVI to HDMI adapter on a DVI cable will limit the length of the cable that can be used.

This is a well known HDCP/HDMI issue with HD Tivos and Gennum chipset processors. Since it is apparent that Tivo isn't going to do anything about it, hopefully by reporting the problem to JVC they will be able to do a future firmware update that will address the issue.

Bob thanks for the info.

Would a straight HDMI cable work as a last resort?

The other odd thing that's happened is a loss of picture from the Tivo over component on some scenes where I just get a blue screen then the picture comes back!!?? It's as though the JVC is "overloaded or something. It happened several times in Johnny Mnemonic and in The Matrix. Maybe it just doesn't like Keanu Reeves!!!

Again, this component cable is a very high end piece from Better Cables. I have never had the problem with the Virtuoso.

Mike the DVI cable is about 30 feet but again it's a very high quality cable from Better Cables and I've never had a problem of any kind with it before. :(

Can you try another cable to see what happens? Move the Tivo closer (maybe just play something that is recorded on it) and then use a short HDMI cable and see what happens.. SJ

What if you connect the cable after the Tivo is in 1080i mode? Does that help at all?
Can you temporarily connect the Tivo directly to the pj? In many cases this is not possible because of cable lengths, but if you are hitting the switch mainly for its switching capabilities and the pj is within reach without the switch, it may be worth trying a direct connection to the pj just to eliminate the switch as a possible culprit.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Running a short HDMI cable does work but is not a practical solution for me.

I now have to buy new cables and maybe an HDMI switcher if the JVC will take that.

As an aside the picture with the all digital path is much better than with the component cable. Cleaner and more 3-D. Not surprising really.

Well at least you know the potential is there! :)

Bob is correct. There is quite a bit of discussion about this issue in the Anthem D2 thread (which uses the Gennum processor).
