It has to be EZ to use- the wife will use it & make every attempt to disable it.
I want 1 button activities. I'm not sure if my stuff is IR or ? so I'll post as much info as I can & maybe you can make this simpler. I don't trust the BB sales guys.
I need the remote simple- the less hard buttons, the better. The wife, kids & grandkids will be using it.

I have a Denon AVR 2807
I have a Sony Blue Ray
I have a JVC 56" HD-ILA 1080p

They are coming in 2 days to install my DirectTV HD-DVR

I don't care about lights, curtains, etc. I just want to
Watch TV
Watch movie
Listen to radio & change stations
Turn on or off outside speakers
Listen to a CD (shopping for a new player that uses a remote)
All of my stuff is in 1 room

I've looked at these on-line doing a search. No one (B&M) has one in stock I can fiddle with.
Harmony 1000
Philips RC98001
MX 3000

I like the MX 3000 but may be waaay more than I need.
I need to disable stuff I don't use.
Would be nice to see a on-line demo using it
After it's set up & the wife sits on it & screws it up- do any of them have a button to restore previous settings?
If you press lets say music (CD) does it have a screen to change tracks, skip, random, open, etc?
If you press TV & I want to record a HD event- will I be able to record & playback & all the other stuff?
Are there screen shots of any of these units in operation?
Is it simple enough to program? I'm not too good w/ this stuff.

Check out RemoteControl II. It is a universal remote control program that runs on a PDA. You can make it do pretty much anything you wish and only show the buttons you want to show.

Harmony 1000
Philips RC98001

are much easier to set up, but you have less control on the configuration

MX 3000 and Philips Pronto line (I like them a bit more) are extremely configurable. You can put any image anywhere and have it do anything you want. If you want fool proof you can add to either of them an RF/WI-FI base and have it directly connected to the machines using IR stick on emitters. The Pronto line has three levels the Pronto TSU-3000 (3500) that is grey scale, the Pronto Pro TSU-7000 (7500) that is coloured and the newer Pronto Professional TSU-9600

For the Pronto and MX-3000 you can download and try the editing SW and they have an emulator (fake remote on screen) you can also go to www.remotecentral.com (looks to be down now) and download the SW as well as some peoples configuration files

as for the questions

I need to disable stuff I don't use. --- yes for Pronto/3000 partially yes for the rest

Would be nice to see a on-line demo using it--- Pronto/3000 yes, 1000 not sure (you used to be able to start a demo account, all you could do is set it up –no emulator- but it would give you an idea, but not sure if it still exists and if the 1000 is there) no idea for the Philips

After it's set up & the wife sits on it & screws it up- do any of them have a button to restore previous settings? --- Harmony (at least other models) had a help button that would ask simple questions “is the TV-on , for the Pronto MX-3000 depends what you do, but it is possible

If you press lets say music (CD) does it have a screen to change tracks, skip, random, open, etc?--- depends on what you set up, but the basic answer is yes for all

If you press TV & I want to record a HD event- will I be able to record & playback & all the other stuff? --- can’t see why not, any universal remote can copy any command on any equipment (unless there is something odd with the equipment.

Are there screen shots of any of these units in operation? --- yes for Pronto and 3000 (look above) not sure for the other two

Is it simple enough to program? I'm not too good w/ this stuff.--- 1000 is simple (answer questions), Philips I don’t know, Pronto/3000 I long and could be a lot of work (do you want something fancy and original?) I find the hardest part is knowing what you want, the rest is adding pictures and then adding commands and there are forums of people t6hat can give advice.

I'd go with a PDA with a built in IR emitter
