I am using a Canon GL2 prosumer video camera to display a live video feed on a plasma flat panel TV. I'd like to use the picture-in-picture feature on the TV, but this feature only works with the HDMI input. The camera has IEEE 1394 (Firewire), USB, composite (RCA), and s-video outputs. Is there a way to convert the 1394 dv out to HDMI? If not, what about converting one of the other camera outputs to HDMI?

S-video to HDMI conversion is possible- there are a number of such devices out there that will do this, but the quality may not be what you want because S-video only carries 480i. 1394 to HDMI is technically possible, but I personally haven't heard of such a device.

Technically possible for unprotected content. But I don't believe that you can decrypt HDCP and then put it over 1394 from a content protection license point of view.

I have an older Sony Hi-8 camcorder that has 1394 & USB 1.1. (not 2.0) What device can I use to get data from 1394 onto my LCD TV? It's now rare to find a 1394 input on an LCD TV. Recording to a DVD, then playing the DVD is not what I want to do. I'm a newbie, but so far brick & mortar sales people are scratching their heads.

I thought 3C encryption was AACS approved and hence Encrypted Ilink conversion to HDCP protected HDMI would be legal.

Bump, has anyone figured out a way to connect an HDMI output from my Samsung BD-UP5000 HD DVD player to my old Sony 34XBR2 HDTV set which has an iLink input? I am using component inputs for now, but would like to use the HDMI capability of my newer equipment with this older (but still excellent video picture quality) HDTV set.
