I know many of you have remote controlled lighting but I can't figure out how you turn the lights on in the dark!

The scenario is like this:

You walk in to the room and the light remote is on the seat where you left it. Do you fumble around in the dark looking for your remote to turn the lights on?

Or... do you turn on a light by the wall that is not remote controlled , walk to the remote, get it, and walk back to the switch on the wall?

I am not getting how it works unless the remote is tied to wall switch somehow.

In my case, I have 4 LUTRON switches mounted in the wall and at the bottom of the stairs of my basement HT. Those all work remotely or just like regular wall switches. I also have a 3-way dimmer switch which is solely for the stairs. This one I didn't put on a remote. Could have but I chose not to.

The switches by Lutron allow you to use them either way so you don't have to fumble in the dark.

Thanks Tekno,

Will one remote control all of your lights? Also, since it is IR controlled do you have to aim the remote at the wall switches? Mine are behind my viewing spot.

Yes with the Lutron Spacer system you can use a remote that controls them all.
One of their remotes also allows you to program "scenes". Meaning that you can preset (up to 4 I think) lighting intensities and with their higher end remote which has 4 presets, change the lighting to various levels. See the web page for better clarification than what I wrote.

It is IR so you do need to be able to point at it. That could be a deal breaker for you.

They also have a line of RF lighting too than you can check out.
