So, we need to pick a day where we would all order from Amazon. I suggested May 29 but if we want to order a week before so we get the new releases ASAP than we can do that. But ordering in March might be good too because everyone is expecting Blu Ray to make a killing in the next couple months and perhaps we can off set just a little.

I'm in been importing my movies to Lebanon from the US through Amazon at insanely cheap prices. Amazon is the best hands down and I have yet to get any damaged discs, so I'll order 10-11 anytime after April 15. It really would be cool if we could force such a spike, it would maybe make all exclusive studios take a hint from both sides and finally let the consumer decide which suits them.

The war is far from over. It is being indicated now that BR and HD DVD should be tied by the end of the year.
For the last two months, twice as many Blu-ray discs have sold as HD DVD discs, noted conference speaker Vito Mandato, an executive consultant to Paramount Home Entertainment. But he does not see that as a sign that the end of the format war is imminent.


“Some studio chiefs have claimed to have won, but quite honestly the war continues,” said Mandato, who led his speech with the disclaimer that his views may not represent the views of Paramount.

Mandato predicts the number of hardware units in homes by the end of 2007 will be at 1.7 million for each format. On the HD DVD side, that includes 1.2 million stand-alone players and 500,000 Xbox 360 add-on drives. For BD, Mandato is counting only 22%, or 1.2 million, of the 5.5 million PS3 units projected to be sold during the year, plus 500,000 stand-alone players, because his analysis suggests that just 22% of PS3 households purchase movies regularly.

Industry sources say both BD and HD DVD stand-alone player sales were about equal in February. BD stand-alone sales were miniscule compared to sales of the PS3, which one source said surpassed 150,000 units during the month.

Sales are likely to grow slowly until consumers have a better understanding of what high-definition DVD and the two separate formats are, said Russ Crupnick, NPD Group VP-senior industry analyst of entertainment.

A recent NPD survey showed 83% of DVD buyers said they had bought HD DVD titles, and 69% said they had bought BD titles. NPD determined that most had actually bought neither, based on the fact that the titles they reported purchasing were not released in either format.

“So in consumer’s minds, next-generation is closing in on a 2% share of all DVD sales,” said Crupnick. “But in fact, [HD DVD and BD sales] are less than 0.5%.”

Crupnick added that there is stiffening competition for BD and HD DVD as other media forms gain steam. Currently, iTunes’ TV and movie digital sales are 10 times the size of high-def title sales.

Fewer than 10% of DVD buyers said they intend to buy HD DVD or BD in the next six months, when accounting for both HDTV owners and non-owners.

“Research, not speculation, shows that consumers are wildly confused,” said Crupnick. “We need to clarify and educate in order to get that purchase intent from 10

Preorders impact the Amazon sales rankings immediately, the sale is not reported by Nielsen/Videoscan until the item is shipped, so yes and yes. It would just be a question of whether the May 29 titles are available for preorder on April 15. I would say the odds are in favor of that.

I say leave this thread active for a few more days and then all of the participants will vote on a day, but the April idea sounds cool.

I understand your frustration but I actually like the combo format. My family always borrows my DVDs and this way they can still borrow them and play them on their standard DVD players.

Past the halfway century mark!

I just wrapped up doing my taxes. This is the first year I have done them with my wife not working. I am very pleased with the result. I think I'm going to have to buy a ton of HD-DVDs on April 15th. I'm getting very excited.

Add me to the list too. I'm looking forward to the Big Lebowski. Actually there is a few I still need to get. April 15th sounds great to me. Very symbolic.

This is so cool! We have over 50 people already! We just can't let this thread go away! We need to keep it active until at least it gets close to the day so we can make sure everyone gets to see it!

Someone sent a email to Amazon to see if they can get a deal for us!!!!! It's not the promotion group but could be just as good!

I think we will go past a 100 in another week given the number of supporters on there myself included, and thats concedering no promotions come courtesy of Amazon. So basiclly we are at 70 right now guys :D .
