looking for opinions on options to improve sound quality:

1. install new amp with factory speakers and factory head unit

2. install new speakers with factory head unit

3. install new speakers and amp with factory head unit

4. install new head unit

Oddly enough, I have a 2004 3 - 5 door with the 6 speakers as well. To avoid a total thread jack, i'm looking for spending closer to $1000 with installation, but would like to get an idea what $500 would get me as well.

Car audio systems these days are pretty well tuned. If you break the combo provided by factory, more then likely it won't sound as good as it did factory.

I would suggest, new head unit with all new speakers and a 5 or 6 channel Amp.

Factory headunit with aftermarket might give you better mids/highs but not a lot of Lows.

Aftermarket headunit with factory speakers will have worst results.

You may see that Just adding an aftermarket SUB to your factory system may improve sound.
