Long story short, I have a friend who won a new in box Z4 in a sales contest at work. Going to sell it to me for next to nothing, so I'm going to jump at it. I know it's not the newest model out there and it's not 1080, but for a first pj, I think I'll be more than happy.

Currently finishing my basement and have space set up for a projector. Projector will be throwing about 12 feet from 7 feet up and I'm hoping to get a 100" image thrown. I've run HDMI to the projector as well as component cables.

I've really been reading things until my eyes bleed. I think I have most things figured out, just need a couple questions answered/affirmed that I either can't find or just don't trust the filter in my head.

1. I used the calculator at projector central and if I'm reading it right, I should be able to get a horizontal image of 52-103", correct?

2. I'm wanting to do everything as I have the funds. So I planned in a DIY screen for now to keep costs down. I was going to just paint the wall. From what I've read I should go a gray or white. Gray gives more contast and better blacks from what I've read. Just a matter of preference here?

3. Finally, when I get the projector up and ready, I'm assuming the PLV-Z4 Tweak Thread will help me tweak settings for a better image.

Thanks in advance for helping a newb. This forum has been a great resource as I've been planning things the past year.

1 - Correct. I throw a 106" diag image from 12 1/2 '

2 - It's all about personal taste. Try to demo the two options. I would go with a Hi-power screen from DaLite. The Model B is very inexpensive.

3 - I found the tweek thread very useful. Every subject has been covered extensively.

Welcome to the world of front projector. You will be very happy with your new toy! :p
