Here is a question that I hope can be answered. I just started a new job driving a truck. The truck has a sound system in it, but the HU has no faceplate. The employer doesn't want to spring for a new HU. I want to be able to listen to my iPod through the speakers. Can this be accomplished without being able to power up the HU? If so, how? Thanks

There are ways but they are more than the $75-$100 a decent head unit will be. You can get decents used decks for under $50 so price shouldn't be a problem.

There is no way to do it that I can think of. You either need a new HU or find a replacement face plate.

You could install an amp and plug the Ipod directly into the amp and use that as the HU.

How would you get the amp to power on without the HU working? The remote lead gets the signal to turn on from the HU.

All you would need to do is tap into an ignition only power source fr the amp. When the vehicle is on the amp is always on and when the vehicle is off so is the amp. Of course this means that the amp is always on even though the Ipod might not be. Not the best solution but it is one none the less.

There are also some amps that have an auto-on feature that turns the amp on as soon as a signal is detected. In this case there is no remote wire.

Call Pacific Coast Parts and see if they'll sell you the right faceplate. You may have to yank the unit to find out the model. And no, they aren't interchangeable.

Without the faceplate I'm pretty sure there's just about no way.
