View Full Version : Problem with Training Day?

So I was watching Training Day today, and noticed that on a few scenes, the motion seems to be sped up or something. Most specifically in the scene where they're in the car, and Denzel Washington makes Ethan Hawke smoke the pipe. I have an A2, and the latest firmware update. Was just wondering if anyone else noticed the same thing.

you know something else weird about this movie...some of the shots look squeezed inwards like the anamorphic film stretch/squeeze was slightly off....like the car sometimes looks too skinny in some of the wide shots....anyone else notice this?

Isn't it supposed to be sped up as an artistic decision to reflect Hawke's drug high?

I noticed that also right away and commented on it in a thread months ago when everyone was raving about the PQ (which is great). The aspect ratio on the case is listed as 2.4:1, which might explain the greater curvature. Maybe the mastering house tried to use the same framing as 2.35:1 and hence the slight squeeze. I found it to be pretty distracting and would choose straight letterboxing over how this turned out. I'd gladly give up some pixels for a normal appearance. Never noticed this effect before in any other DVD, HD-DVD or BD.

Maybe only Atlanta folks see this ;)

That would be cool if they did that, but he does it before he smokes the pipe. It also pops up in another scene, but that's the only one I can remember.

Watch Babel in the opening shots of the Japanese segment - all squeezed until they enter the street where they stop or exit.

I have Training Day, one of my first buys. Never noticed this. Does it happen in the same part of the movie? Or is it random? Try unplugging your player for a second. If you never do this, I say try to do it once a week! I have a XA1 buy the way.
