I know alot of you have already read this, but thought it deserved its own thread :) I think Art liked it! :D
Good summary at the end comparing the RS1 to other various projectors (Mits 5000, Panny 1000, etc....)
That was an impressive summary. I think JVC has systematically placed these in the hands of reviewers so a new review comes out each week.
They are giving Sony the Shock and Awe :D

I'm confused: didn't he just proclaim the Pearl the best ever just last week?
What recent projector did not receive a "Hot Award"? Now this site claims they may have given out a few to many. Is it difficult to please both the consumer and advertisers without losing credibility?
Many here waited for the JVC to arrive because all reports indicated that it would be the best of the current crop of 1080p projectors.
Hopefully this site will begin to practice a bit more restraint in correcting their skewed value judgements.

Credibility is being lost.
Come on guys, how can he compare current offerings to future reviews? If 6 months ago a projector was a great deal at the $2K price point, is he supposed to retract the award once new projectors come out that make the older projector no longer the best price / performance proposition?
As it is, he is one of the few reviewers that constantly updates older reviews with current information and makes both PQ and value comparisons to older pjs.
If he was to review the Pearl AFTER the RS-1 and then say it was the best thing ever with no mention of the RS-1 then I'd say credibility lost.

If he was to review the Pearl AFTER the RS-1 and then say it was the best thing ever with no mention of the RS-1 then I'd say credibility lost.
Exactly, it took the dynamic range of the RS-1 to show him how much low light detail the Pearl was missing. He kept saying how the RS-1 revealed details in movies he never knew existed, despite having looked at the scenes an endless number of times in the past. The lack of a need for a dynamic iris is what has had me so excited about this projector since November....
Credibility is being lost.
Not so sure about that. Can't expect reviewers to revise past reviews when new projectors come out--at least he makes sure to compare the new projector to the old projectors in the review itself, which is quite helpful. The pearl WAS the best of the 1080p projectors he had reviewed--until the JVC came out, and he clearly stated that this is the new king of the hill (for now!)
Although I have limited experience with projectors, I have read Art's reviews with great interest and I have found his screen shots the most believable of those that I have seen accompanying projector reviews. While editing software allows one to dramatically alter a photo at will, there is a consistency from one review to another in Art's reviews that produces shots that reflect both his written observations and even those of other reviewers.
For example, Art has included a night shot from Phantom at the Opera in his recent reviews of the HD81, the vw50 and the RS-1. Many reviews, including Jason's, here on AVS Forum, have had a near identical shot of that scene. Comparing the shot for all three of Art's projector reviews graphically depicts some of the relative strengths of the projectors. The Pearl seems, on my monitor, to be free of a particular color emphasis and, for lack of a better term, seems "real" to me by itself. In contrast, the HD81 shot has a decidedly blue cast to it, but no where near so blue as Jason's shots of nearly the same scene. The 3d-effect is very prominent with the HD81, making the point that the Pearl can look flat directly compared to a dlp. On the other hand, the HD81 also lends a bright edge to the face contours as if the girl now has a sweaty sheen, despite the snow falling all around.
On the other hand, the RS-1 finds a very nice middle ground that generally keeps the color balance of the Pearl, with a very slightly more bluish cast, but adds more of the 3d effect by having greater contrast in the girl's face, and throughout the scene, but without the Hd81's sheen. Until I have had the opportunity to personally audition these projectors, these shots give meaning to many of the reviewer's words and provide me with a better idea of what I will be wanting to look for when that audition does eventually occur.
That is what I read reviews for, and for that I wish to thank and compliment the author of the review. I think he does a good job, in my layman's opinion.

Thank you for the review.
I know reviews like this take a lot of time and effort and are much appreciated.
But "full DTS screen shots" show that JVC convergence is not even calibrated before the test. Since misconvergence plays a big role in sharpness JVC must have more than "slightest edge" in sharpness. Also a link to the original HiRes pictures of screen shots would have been nice. JVC I saw had no convergence problem and it is one of it's strongest points that it can be adjusted.
Also to all reviewers: Please provide links to the original 1 or 2 MB pictures. Some of AVS members have high speed internet and monitors/video cards that can handle Hires pictures. And do not start that BS that screen shots are worthless. I this case even Lowres satellite pictures showed how good JVC's black levels are. Unless you try to compare D65 colors screenshots are very helpful.

I agree with Dra, I think screen shots can help. I wish we could all see a correctly cailbrated JVC RS1 in person before commenting on it...
