hi i'm new to crt projection i have a hs-51 lcd that i love but got a 1270 real cheap with super clean tubes and feel compelled to see what it is all you hardcore CRTers are screaming ... my question is in resolution i also just picked up cheap a DEUCE SDQ VIDEO SCALER 2240 it does line doubling / quadrupling 600x800 1024x768 1280x1024 the last res being 1270's max res... my question is should i run that res ? or what is the optimal res. i should run ? , what works best with this projector ? ...and don't say triplers or 720p as i have yet to see a tripler ever and not ready to buy a hd scaler yet as my lcd and dvd sync at 720p themselves...i just can't stand screen door - honestly my first lcd was a hs-10 and i think it resolved better ... but thats something for another forum - please HELP ans thanks in advance

Looks good.

Start with 800x600. With a good setup and tweaking, you might be able to work up to 768. But don't even try 1280x1024 on a 1270.

Sounds like the projector is in good shape, but don't expect too much... the 1270 is 7" ES... pretty much the lowest end of any of the CRTs.

will 600x800 be better than using the line doubling feature...how about the quadrupling??

Line doubling will take 480i and give you 480p... not enough, you'll have scanline gaps.

Quadrupling will give you 960p... too many lines for a 1270... the scanlines will overlap and you'll get a very soft picture.

What sources do you have? If you have anything with 1080i, that's ideal as a native resolution.
