I am looking for a touch screen remote to control all my A/V gear. I have a dedicated Home Theater and I have sconces and can lights. I do not have any switches on the wall that can control the lights by the remote yet. Can anyone recommend a touchscreen remote that will dim the lights etc when the movie starts and stops. I will be adding the switches on the wall later so I can control them. I doubt I will use graphic eye but something a lot cheaper. My budget is probably around $400 at most. Thanks

The Harmony 1000 seems to fit the bill. You can find it for about $350. There aren't really any other touch screen remotes under $500. Another option would be a Windows Mobile PDA with some remote control software on it.

I agree. I think your budget is too low for what is available on the market today. You might get by using used PDA and software like RemoteControl II . Just make sure the PDA has a powerful enough IR LED or you willbe disappointed.

Is there a reason you want a touchscreen?

I used to be a sales person that dealt with the MX-3000. It was a touchscreen. I sold about 20 of them(at ~retail of ~$1k.). For about 1~6 months all 20 people absolutely LOVED their new remote. And loved showing it to friends. Then one by one ~10 of them came in complaining that they didn't like the feel of "pressing" the buttons on the screen.

There is no feel! There is a little give in the plastic screen, that's it!

We were ALL raised with hard button remotes. So anything else doesn't seem quite right.

ANyways, choose what you will.

I'll recommend the Harmony 1000, the MX-3000(~$600 online), or my personal favorite, a PDA with one of the remote control programs working.

The last option is the most powerful. You can do almost ANYTHING you want with a PDA remote, and it's a PDA when you're not using it for a remote!

And you get the tactile buttons too!!

Ultramote IR Extender is available as long as PDA has a Compact Flash slot. Fits the setup nicely for $37 shipped.

There is also the Pronto TSU-3000 3500. You will also need some X-10 stuff (for the lights) and an IR543
