View Full Version : Think Your Theater is a "Bat Cave"? Try Again
This theater was brought to my attention today. Is it real or digital manipulation? I get a kick out of it regardless. One thing I can say for sure - this is a man who does not worry about WAF :).

It's real.
Jason Turk 03-09-07, 09:08 PM Man it looks cool, but it isn't for me. I just don't like the theme theater look. Less is more I say. :)
This is one for the ages. Thanks for the great chuckle. Made my day.
guptown 03-09-07, 09:10 PM It looks like a ride at Disneyland!
I would not do something like that for myself but the funny thing is that it is so fun/funny that if I had to choose I'd enjoy hanging out in there more than some in of the super glitzy Theo Kalimarkis type theaters that while impressive, have never been "my thing". I'd do a custom DVD intro with a bunch of bats flying around the room.
Jason Turk 03-09-07, 09:17 PM My opinion on a room like that, you don't need any A/V gear. The cool factor is in the design and architecture. Once in that room, no one will care about the movie. :)

Looks really creepy....
Gino AUS 03-09-07, 09:28 PM This is real.... the funny thing is though QQQ, the projector is a G90, sitting between the front 2 seats! If I have time I'll find the original article where it was featured.
Gino AUS 03-09-07, 09:35 PM Found it - link (http://www.cepro.com/news/editorial/12947.html)

I noticed it was a CRT. I was going to post it in the CRT forum razzing you guys that I had the best bat cave for good blacks but then I saw the VW size coffee table in the middle of the room and I knew it was a CRT.
I think the novelty would wear off quick. Some themed theaters are cool though:

I would love to watch The Descent in there.
Catdaddy67 03-09-07, 10:59 PM That guy needs less batcave and more screen. My other HDTVs look bigger than that screen. 8)
Rob Tomlin 03-09-07, 11:09 PM I don't get it.
Isn't this exactly what people envision whenever somebody talks about having a "bat cave" for a theater? What else would it mean?
Alan Gouger 03-10-07, 12:31 AM I would love to watch The Descent in there.
Or the Flintstones !
Id be worried a bear would wander in for the winter.
R Harkness 03-10-07, 12:34 AM Least inviting HT of all time.
::shivers::
Visitor: "OUCH!!! OMG, What the F**K just went through my skull?"
Owner: "You stepped into a stalactite. Sorry, I forgot to warn you to watch out for those. Be careful, the vampire bats will be more attracted to you now with all that blood on your head."
Id be worried a bear would wander in for the winter.
That, and the hassle of scraping up all the bat guano whenever company comes over.
Least inviting HT of all time.
::shivers::
I agree... It does look cold and uninviting.
As opposed to the warm and romantic cave look? It's a fricken cave :D.
kelliot 03-10-07, 01:53 AM I'd rather have the 100K lumen PJ with the black screen at the beach.
MrWigggles 03-10-07, 03:21 AM That guy's still using a CRT. Where has he been all these years? ...
<... wait for it ...>
Living in a cave?
Thank-you, thank-you, please, tip your waitresses....
did you notice he is watching "Monsters Inc" ??
Or the Flintstones !

or Batman! :D
I just learned the owner of this theater is the guy in the Geico commercial.
mhafner 03-10-07, 08:02 AM I don't get it.

It usually means a black hole of a home cinema with black walls etc. and minimal reflections.

I think he was being facetious... ;)
Alan Gouger 03-10-07, 10:47 AM If this were my theater instead of a DTS sign at the entrance mine would say
' This Theater is "Woman must ware a Loincloth " Approved '
Phil_Johnson 03-10-07, 11:04 AM I have seen an article on that room in some magazine and if i remember right it was a womens theater.

Gino AUS 03-10-07, 11:16 AM Art, you crack me up sometimes mate!
Alan Gouger 03-10-07, 11:25 AM Art, you crack me up sometimes mate!
I think Art wanted to say " thats my stalagmightymite "
wholly distracting batman!
...and the cave walls are far too light coloured to really qualify as a "batcave".. lol
rlhjr34 03-10-07, 03:02 PM A Theater so easy, even a Caveman could build it!
AnthonyP 03-10-07, 04:52 PM not a cave, but if I think an old wine seller

darinp2 03-10-07, 05:19 PM I don't plan on making my walls look like a real cave, but getting a cage full of bats, letting them lose in my mostly black velvet room and then closing the door behind me as I leave my guests in there to enjoy does sound like a certain amount of fun. :) Up to the point of trying to get them out. I could put one of those plastic bats on a rubber band and let it lose at just the right spot in a movie, but somebody might have a heart attack.
If anybody decides to drop rubber snakes on their guests while showing, "Snakes on a Plane", I'll be interested to hear how it goes. :)

You do relise you are contributing to the delinquency of a projectorhead, don't you? (spiders could be fun, donchathink?) ;)
Yes, the ariticle says the theater belongs to woman. So it definitely passes the WAF factor.
Gino AUS 03-11-07, 06:58 AM QQQ - see my previous post #10... mentions the client was a female
agrsiv95 03-11-07, 11:12 AM So do you think the stalactites work as good sound diffusers?
Digital2004 03-11-07, 12:33 PM well i 'do that and cleaner (dust), much higher ceilings (this one looks claustrophobic, way too low ceilings), the screen also seems way too small for the room.
http://www.stoppschild.com/Bilder%20Batman/Burton_in_Batcave.jpg
higher ceiling, room for the "car" :)
but first look for a high ceiling basement :) :
http://photos.imageevent.com/batmanonfilm/bofimagesbofimages/bale_bruce_batcave.jpg
but i agree, themed home theater seriously limits the kind of movies one wants to see. imagine a pink blue one with ceiling mirrors etc ? :D :D :D (only "that" kind of movies :D )
or those STAR TREK themed HTs (which cost a fortune): only sci fi movies.

pfouah ! :D
a double stacked stalagmite i guess :D
WOLVERNOLE 03-11-07, 11:16 PM Man, some of you guys are sorta brutal ! Hey, this guy is creative and has a theme room that HE envisioned and the government (probably) did not pay for. :)
That is what our little "hobby" is all about...enjoying video and audio, in a room away from the reality of the office or wherever you work to be able to afford your hobby. I applaud his creativity. The guy obviously pursued hid dream. I'd wish the same for all of us. ;)

I know somebody who did silly-string during Arachnophobia... ;)

I was at an airport many years ago where this restaurant had big furry spiders and such dangling above the patrons heads. What the patrons didn't know was that they could all be controlled behind the counter and the person back there would every so often make one of them start to lower until it touched the shoulder of someone. All the other patrons would be watching as the person screamed. It was great fun but I doubt anyone would dare do that today - someone would get shot or sued.
Brandon B 03-13-07, 07:07 AM I had an office mate who did that to the other guy in his cubicle. He could not figure out why the guy didn't rip the spider down after the first time. Did it to him over and over for months just to see how long it would work.

There is one major point that all of you guys are missing here. Any woman that would build this theater (and put in a G-90 projector) would do ANYTHING in bed. If you can imagine it she'd be willing to try it.
maddogmc 03-13-07, 10:49 PM ... Any woman that would build this theater (and put in a G-90 projector) would do ANYTHING in bed.....
Oh! Word/image association is running rampant in my minds eye!
Caves - Bats - Vampires - Blood Sucking
The blood thing makes me cringe even thou a Vampires bite is suppose to be painless! ;) ;)

As long as you are willing to wear tights and say phrases like "Holy ethylene glycol, Batman!! This chick parties with 9" guns!"
