I can't seem to connect to the PS3 network or even get a connection through my PS3....

I'm using a D-Link router and have been able to play online since november without a problem...I do have the latest update i think its 1.54

and my connection has been working with that update until now...

I went to my internet settings on the PS3 to reset everything up ....
I'd do a wireless scan
find my SSID
Enter the WEP
Select easy for Address Settings
then it goes "Checking newtork configuration please wait..."
and this is where i feel the problem comes into play....

It comes back and then i go through this setup...Asks me for:
IP Address Setting (I select Automatic)
Set DHCP (I select Do not use)
DNS Setting (Automatic)
MTU (Automatic)
Proxy Server (Do not use)
UPnP (Enable)
----

At this point i save it and it asks to Test connection ...so i do

and then i get the "The attempt to obtain an IP address timed out"....

in the past when i was able to connect out it never use to ask me for the UPnP, DHCP, MTU options etc....

so why now am I getting all those options?
- perhaps those options are the default; when it can't get the network configuration?

-==--=-=---=---
So what do i do or need to do....? :(
-==--=-=---=---

I've tried moving my PS3 closer for a stronger connection and even hardwired it and still nada...still asks me for all that extra stuff and i can't ever obtain an IP address...

Try plugging your wireless router back into the power outletl. If that fails, try the reset button on it. If that also does not work, take your router and smash it into the wall. Then purchase a new one. Seriously, though, I'm not sure: my PS3 worked out of the box and I didn't even have to go to the Network Settings. It just... worked.
