They could be "HD DVD owners" in the sense that they purchased some combo formats before the HD DVD player in the anticipation that they will buy an HD DVD player soon.

When the xbox360 gets obselete,HDDVD players(and BD i would guess) will be so cheap,that in the end,the price of the add-on plus whatever you'll pay at that time for a standalone player will prove to be much cheaper than what you have to pay for a standalone player now.

Doesn't it also connect to your PC as well? Plus I would imagine by the time the 360 has become obsolete, most people would have already gotten their $200 worth and standalone prices will have fallen to more reasonable levels.

Bingo. When the 360 is on its last legs in 4 or 5 years there will be much cheaper stand alone players. By then I will probably have a standalone given the likely hood they will be <$150 in 2011

I have both, and vastly prefer my HTPC which has both a HD DVD 360 drive and a BD drive to any standalone player out there. As a matter of fact I haven't even turned on either my Toshiba A1 or my Panny BD for several months now.

The universal player is already here and it is call an HTPC!

I had the add on but returned it and bought a HD A1.

I own both! On my main set up I have the A1 and in another room with a smaller tv I have the add-on!

360 add-on for now. Once I get an HDMI capable receiver I'll have the urge to get a stand-alone so that I can enjoy TrueHD on the few titles that have it.

Exactly! By then, either HD DVD will become obsolete, or else I'll have have several stand alones at a very cheap price! Think how much DVD players went down 5 years after they emerged onto the marketplace.

HD-A1 i was originally going to go with the 360 addon but after considering the advantages the standalone has over it i went that route.

HD-A1 player since October. I bought it mainly for the analog connection for my TrueHD tracks that were lacking on the HD-DVD add on.

HD-XE1 since 02/2007. I love stand-alones in my A/V rack.

I have the add-on but getting rid of it due to the audio. I cant stand it. Picked up the AX1 should be here tuesday.

Stand alone RCA HDV5000.

I have a standalone in the living room (hooked up to a 42" HP Plasma) and the 360 add-on hooked up in the bedroom (32" Westinghouse LCD). Both look great but I prefer to A2 a bit more due to upscaling SD and better picture.

I had the 360 add on and dint care for it.took it back and got a A2.Way better then the addOn IMO.

Both. :) I'm surprised to see the 360 owners out numberingf the stand alone owners.

XBOX 360 Addon got me into the game (pardon the pun). I don't have an HDMI switching receiver, so no HDMI wasn't really a concern for me. Ease of entry and PQ were my determining factors, and I'm suitably impressed :cool:

I have both. I've had the A1 since October for analog connections for my TrueHD tracks. I somtimes carry my 360 with me on trips and wanted a drive I could move around with. :)

I have the XA1. I returned my 360 addon to get the XA1. I had to have the HD audio support.
