What do we hear or rather what are you hearing?
There was talk about a "Ruby 2" with Qualia optics in one thread.

There is no news. Sony isn't talking. The only thing reliable is there will be a new SXRD FP at Cedia, and semi reliable that there will be two new such projectors. Less reliable, if there are two, one will use the Qualia interchangeable lenses.

Well it would be nice to know if this will be a higher lumen answer to the RS1.Even speculation would indicate that unless it has more light and close to the on/off why bother ?

There is nothing to know. It will be HDMI 1.3 and all the Sony buzz words to go along with that , new color space, deep color, yada, yada. Sony isn't driven to answer the RS1. The basic improvement of the RS1 is the use of better OEM polarizers and the use of a better other manufacturer VP chip. The lenses are about the same. The Sony has better color management, the JVC allows one piel grid shifts for each chip. For a CRT boy, the on/off CR is significantly better in the JVC. The really big breakthrough of the JVC is the better polarizers. Simple for Sony to follow suit. Much more politics in switching VP chips. lAbout the current yada about the JVC, wait till Cedia and the yada about how the new Sony or Sony's advance the art. On/off, 22,000? A much better lens, 2000ANSI lumens but at what price. $13,000? We shall see.

"The really big breakthrough of the JVC is the better polarizers. Simple for Sony to follow suit."

Tom Stites said in one of these threads that Sony was already using wire grid polarizers in the Ruby and Pearl.

There is nothing to know.

I'm confused. The rumor is that there is a Qualia replacement not a new Pearl. This indicates a statement piece. That couldn't happen without lots more native CR, more light or both IMO.

I thought the Pearl was the Qualia replacement? ;)

Art. Sony isn't talking. I met with two of their projector engineers from Japan. Nice young men. They didn't give up any info except that a new projector or projectors would be shown at Cedia. They offered that they hadn't yet seen the RS1. I think it reasonable to expect improvements to the Pearl with a new model number and a Qualia level replacement priced somewhere higher than the Ruby. But I and nobody posting here knows.

Thanks I was hoping something slipped somewhere. I've got the itch and I'd like to have a 14' CIH set up by fall or so with the best possible PJ choice.

It seems to me that the higher lumen LCoS projectors will almost need a larger chip to handle the power density. That is if they're shooting for "Art S." approved projection requirements.

Of course, larger chip comes hand in hand with larger lenses (for same throw) which are $$$$.

Any Qualia replacement will certainly be a lot more expensive than the RS1 with maybe no better specs other than brightness.

I wonder if there's enough market demand for such a projector.

All 3-DLP light monsters are mega-buck devices. The new Qualia will have to be nearly as expensive to make sense for Sony.

The marketing game seems to be CR. And 15000 CR seems possible with out DI. So add a DI to non DI 15000CR and . . . . A bigger chip other than an existing 4K? I doubt it. Not enough demand to justify the expense.

There is no "Best".
Art once you go digital you'll be like the rest of us with a universal mount hanging from the ceiling.

The good news is you'll be able to get the latest every year. This will make you much happier than "the best"

Art. I think waiting till Cedia is indicated. I know you would like to have it by October but maybe Christmas would be better. your system can hold its own for quite a bit more.

Too easy . I said the best possible choice, which really means with what compromises I'm willing to make in my installation. If JVC is coming with a 4K, high lumen ,high CR FP very soon, this is certainly something to consider.

I'm sure the marketing types are chomping at the bit to get blurbs out in the mainstream on anything new coming in the Fall.

Reason we don't see/hear anything from Sony is probably due to lack of a decision on final direction. With JVC I'm sure if anything is in the works, they don't want to cut off the stampede of masses to the RS1 with an announcment on a newer bigger breakthrough coming this Fall.

I would think for Sony it would have to be soon, though, the Fall is but 6 months or so away...

Well JVC has made it clear that they are coming with a 4K consumer device as we hear Sony is also. Logically they will scale 1080 x 1920 to 4K internally. If what has been said comes to pass the 4K unit from JVC will have better contrast than any DLP and as much light as the SIM or Titan.

It is going to be $14999 list. It will have a new DI with 30000:1 contrast and a new lamp that is still Xenon, but only sells for $499. It will be a 3000 hour lamp, and put out 1000 D65 lumens.
This isn't true, but I figured I would be the first to start the rumor ball rolling down the hill. :)

Shall the untrue rumor be for the JVC or for the Sony?

1,000:1 ANSI CR
Xenon (700W?)

This does seem unlikely as a well crafted rumor!

Gosh who makes the best DI..and use a Xenon with such a hi CR.. :D

Priapism? At your age? OK. You can wear a diaper (God. I shudder at that image). Brrr. Tetracycline. 500mg twice a day with food for 10 days, Oh yea. Wear dark shades while on the tetra.

Yep, that was kind of confirmed in another forum. And a cheaper RS1 also, I hope with good processing (Reon?).
