View Full Version : Do you think Heroes will boost sales of HD DVD?
Andrew J L 03-10-07, 04:38 PM I hope so.
When season 1 is released hopefully NBC will have spots highlighting that is available on HD DVD.
Season 1 should hit around Sept and Season 2 should start to be aired around then.
The show is building a big fan base so it could help HD DVD sales.
I'm not one for buying TV series but I may get this one and BSG and ST.
I love scifi, its just so expensive to get box sets and after watchinig once I doubt I'd watch them again.
If Babylon 5 get re released in HD DVD I'm in trouble.
hd nOOb 03-10-07, 04:44 PM Its not so much as content its the pricing of software. At first low prices and good disk sales were to get the attention of the nuetural studios. As of now HD DVD has not figured that price will attract mass adoption. Look at the Blu ray sale ppl are buying crapy moives cause they are CHEAP---- DUH! Look at house of flying daggers. If HD DVD does NOT price for MASS ADOPTION only major Block bester titles will boost sales rember it like a team every player must do there part to ensure a win. One or two major titles will help but 50 - 70 titles at 14.99 will do alot more damage. Can u say level up

Just about every conceivable title that gets released helps, to what degree is really the question.
At this point anything will help them boost some sales. :)

+1
It definitely won't hurt them!
I don't know if people will buy an HD DVD Player, but it could. The more software that gets released on HD DVD the better! I might pick this up if the price is right.
Have never seen an episode but I heard its a great show!
JackBauer24 03-10-07, 05:34 PM Heroes is an amazing show and it gets higher ratings than 24 and Lost. I'm happy there are more and more tv shows heading to any high def format.
eXstasie 03-10-07, 05:37 PM What other shows are coming to HD DVD?
MidnightWatcher 03-10-07, 05:48 PM What other shows are coming to HD DVD?
Battlestar Galactica (new series).

I also hope House M.D. will come to HD DVD, even though it airs on Fox, it is a NBC/Universal project.
eXstasie 03-10-07, 06:12 PM Band of Brothers still going to make its way on HD DVD?
David Susilo 03-10-07, 06:54 PM if the price is in line with the SD-DVD version, then I'll bite. House MD should also be in HD. The current SD version is mysteriously in letterbox instead of 16:9 (at least that's how season 1 is being presented on SD DVD)
egcarter 03-10-07, 07:08 PM HEROES the highest rated new series on TV this season (I'm not including SO WHO'S SMARTER THAN A FIFTH GRADER, which has only been on for two weeks in coveted timeslots behind AMERICAN IDOL). and HEROES is #5 in the key 18-49 ratings.
It should do well...
fitprod 03-10-07, 07:15 PM Band of Brothers still going to make its way on HD DVD?
It's supposed too, but since it is teachnically produced by Spielberg, that propbably slowed down the release from HBO.
Considering HBO's a subsidary of Time/Warner it should hit both Blu-ray and HD DVD at the same time whenever it shows up.

I have season 1 and 2. Season 2 is in 16:9
David Susilo 03-10-07, 07:37 PM that's the thing. I'm a completist. I'm not going to buy the season just because the 1st season is presented in a botched letterbox instead of the proper anamorphic.

I'm sure if Universal releases House on HD DVD they will release it in the proper format. They obviousy recognize their mistake since they released the second season in anamorphic widescreen. I am just curious if shows broadcast in HD will be presented on HD DVD in their broadcast resolutions. House is broadcast @ 720p, I wonder if Universal would release it @ that resolution, or up it to 1080p.
David Susilo 03-10-07, 07:50 PM whatever the native resolution of House MD, I'll buy them all if they're presented properly. I think that's the only TV series I'd definitely buy. For some reason I'm not really into Heroes (although I'd still buy it to test the waters)
hmurchison 03-10-07, 07:58 PM I haven't watched the series but my gf is hopelessly hooked. She's generally a good critic on shows so I'm going to buy the series right away and I do believe it'll boost sales. By the time it comes we'll be full tilt for movie releases.
This and BG are must haves for me.
eXstasie 03-10-07, 08:15 PM The only TV series i'm definitely buying so far is Weeds, except its on Blu-Ray. The entire first season of Weeds (which i think is 10 episodes) only costed me $20US ... thats pretty cheap!

Here Here! House is a must. I'd buy 24, but Blu-Ray got to Jack Bauer first...
narcopolo 03-10-07, 11:56 PM The only TV series i'm definitely buying so far is Weeds, except its on Blu-Ray.
I'm definitely buying that also. It wil be my 3rd blu disk. So far nothing to play it on and no plans to buy any blu machine that's currently available regardless of price breaks.
I am getting Heroes also, and won't be watching it on TV anymore. That way at least some of the shows on the HD DVD will be something I haven't seen yet.
Is it even definite that Heroes is coming to HD DVD? Or is this just wishful thinking? House on HD DVD would be nice as well. 24 is supposedly in the works for release on Blu-ray, along with Prison Break (two of my favorite shows). Heroes and House are also favorites of mine. I don't know, I'm not sure Heroes would boost HD DVD much farther ahead of Blu-ray, as Blu-ray will get a similar boost from 24. I hate being able to have one of my favorites in HD but not the other; I am starting to consider buying both an HD DVD and a Blu-ray player at this point. It sucks that I have to shell out two thousand dollars to have all the HD titles I want. I would get the LG player, but I heard it does not support all of HD DVD's functions.
ricwhite 03-11-07, 12:34 AM I am VERY interested in both BG and Heroes. I haven't watched either series on TV, but I am very impressed with reviews and word of mouth.
Monty HD 03-12-07, 08:21 PM I think they should bundle it 3 weeks earlier with a 360 Add on and/or HD DVD. That would definitely get the 360 owners motivated.
bob_c_b 03-12-07, 08:49 PM If this means anything, I ordered a Tosh HD-A2 yesterday pretty much based on Heroes and BSG.
