It's out on HD DVD in Europe from Studio Canal. The notion that a film from 1976 can't look any better than DVD strikes me as a little bizarre. I'm guessing you haven't seen the HD DVDs of Casablanca and The Adventures of Robin Hood?

It's true that Paramount/Dreamworks has 100s of exceptional UNRELEASED catalog titles but discussion threads like these become meaningless when they haven't made any ground breaking title announcements since Transformers. Dreamworks is about to part ways with Paramount and I hope that they remain HD DVD exclusive and do not defect.

Got to have some science fiction flicks.

The Core
Event Horizon

I would also like them to just open the vault. Heck they could open up the vault and release all they possibly can now and if hd dvd goes belly up in the next few years they can release them on the other format. They would be losing nothing.

I think that hd dvd should get the remaining companies to lock in for a few years and we could have a dual format world. I like it.

All the above movies would be great from Paramount. Universal has a bunch of titles that they could release to make this arms race really interesting. Instead we get 'Mobsters' from Universal and nada from Paramount.

I guess they really don't care all that much about HD-DVD.

Mobsters! Come on Universal, you could do so much better! Throw me a bone.

Just realised that Spielberg will be able to block the releases of these because he was the director:

Saving Private Ryan
Indiana Jones - Raiders of the Lost Ark
Indiana Jones - Temple of Doom
Indiana Jones - Last Crusade
Indiana Jones - Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (May 22)

So I guess that leave just 20 on my list... any word whether Spielberg is likely to allow the release of those 5 though? Did he have control over the release of Close Encounters on Blu-ray?

Such non globalization thinking (from a USA is the only place....), remember....

Fox has the rights in the good ole USA.

Dreamworks has the rights everywhere else ;)

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0162222/companycredits

in the end though.. The same approach I take with fox I take with these titles.

I'll believe it when I SEE IT.
