Hi all,
Just tunred on My HD70 last night. went through the tweaks and tricks and the general image quality is nothing but great.
with that, from about 13' I get the 100" diagonal image when using 16x9 or even a alightly larger on LBX... However, when I try the "Native" my projector throw a very small image (~50" diagonal)... what's with that?. what is the way to get the larger image using the Native mode?

What is the sourceof this Native feed. If its a Prog scan DVD player, Native woudl mean 480P and the picture shoudl not be that small. If however, the video feed is from an SD cable box the picture woudl be small.

The source is actually from my Pioneer progresive Scan DVD via Component cables. I really can not explain that, when I press 16x9, the picture is large and as I would expect it to be for the distance etc. but when I press Native, I get like very small (yet 16x9) image... but very small... :(

Isn't "Native" on the Optoma an unscaled, pixel-by-pixel image?

A 480p image on a 720/768 chip would leave 240/ 288 pixels unused on the vertical dimension - which makes the displayed source image about 62% the size of the screen.

Yep, anything but a high definition signal should be a little rectangular box in the middle of the screen.

I use a Bravo D1 DVD player set @ 720P. When I use Native it fills the screen as it should.
I also have a Magnavox DVD player which runs at 480P (no upconverting capabilities) and it does not fill the screen when using Native because the projector is 720P and the DVD player is 480P.

The OP's equipment is working as it should.

O.K - I think I got the point, I also noticed the same effect when I hooked up my cable via s-video... I guess it is now time to move into an upscaled 720 DVD player.... Until then I need to keep using the 16x9.
One other note, even when I use 16x9, I still get about and inch or so frame around the full picture, is that something I need to adjust the overal size or leave as it is...
Thanks again,

Thanks again,
that inch your getting around the picture is actually a border that the DC2 dlp chip produces..on everything ...and unless you buy a good upconverting player the picture will be no better than your current player...(the hd70 uses a built in scaler just like the upconverting player would to upscale the image to 720p from its native 480i)...Your still using the same method to blow up the same 480i image and unless the upconverting player has a better quality scaler than the hd70 does your picture could actually get worse...I would save this upgrade util after you have all the other more noticable upgrades oput of the way...by then maybe an HD dvd or blueray dvd player with standard dvd upconversion will have come down enough in price...that being said a good not neccesarily expensive upconverting player can make a world of difference...just do your homework first...I wouldn't trade my $35 bravo d1 upconverting player outputing 720p at 48hz for the world...:)
