as I don't seem to make up my mind on a new TV, is there a way that I can connect the PS3 to an old tv which only has S-Video and composite inputs ?

PS3 comes with a composite connection. You can use it right away.

And if you want s-video, which should be a minor improvement, you can use a PS2 s-video cable. The PS3 uses the same multi-connector.

I got my 20gb on a 26inch sanyo crt and my 60gb on my 37in sceptre 1080p so i can game with the wife. Works nice until I can get a better tv.

it's not that difficult and I have made it pretty clear: because I have not decided yet which panel to buy. Considering the possibly sizeable expense I don't want to rush this decision.
