View Full Version : Walmart Canada Raises Prices on Blu Ray and HD DVD Disks
PrinceLH 03-11-07, 08:32 PM Been to five different Walmart's in my area, in the last week, and have noticed that the price of Blu Ray Disks and HD DVD Disks have increased 3 to 4 dollars on many disks by Paramount and Warner. So much for their Rollback advertising. Maybe we should call it Roll up prices. Many of the newer releases are cheaper than older releases that can be found in regular DVD format for $6.88, or less.

There are only two places I purchase HD DVDs from. Amazon and the flea market where I live.
jason forster 03-12-07, 08:40 AM the flea market is a gold mine, i have bought about 20 hd-dvd's and blueray all for about $18 canadian per disc. all brand new wrapped and the security seal still on them.
QWK SVT 03-12-07, 10:25 AM I noticed the same thing this weekend, here in Toronto. Was really dissapointed to see multiple tiles $30+. Futureshop and Best Buy are no better (often worse) and I don't know of a flea market near me, so...
I finally bit the bullet, and placed an order with Amazon (US) - I couldn't pass up the 50% BRD sale going on right now. :p Here's hoping I don't get dinged with any additional charges (tax, duty, etc.)...

If you are near Pickering Flea Market they carry most of their HD DVDs for $20 CDN brand new. This includes new release of catalogue titles. Some New Releases of non-catalogue titles are a bit more. I bought The Departed for 24.99 CDN.
They also carry Blu Ray; same price point.
ryoohki 03-12-07, 11:24 AM Casino Royale is 29.99$ at FS.. not bad since it's 27.99$USD title..

Anybody know if there are similar flea markets in the Kitchener-Waterloo-Cambridge area?
Neo1965 03-12-07, 11:41 AM Any Flea market with highdef disks near Newmarket/Barrie?
So these fleamarket discs are legit copies I guess? Interesting...
I always knew fleamarkets carried DVD's, but with none in my neck of the woods from what I understand, I simply assumed they were all just pirated copies. Since you can't really copy HD-DVD/Bluray and the things are shrinkwrapped, I guess they're legit! Man, wish I had one around here!

That's great! I'm in the N/E end of Scarborough, so that's only a few minutes away. I'll have to check it out this weekend!
Thanks again, SoulOnice!

Is this the fleamarket outlet of DVD Wave?
space2001 03-13-07, 08:30 AM how is the prices for dvd wave on blu-ray
QWK SVT 03-13-07, 09:22 AM I haven't been to DVD Wave since they shut down the location on Leslie (north of 16th). They had great selection (and ordered some hard to get DVD titles for me), but I found their prices weren't terribly competitive with Futureshop, at the time. Are their prices better, now vs. then? I'll have to try to swing by the Hwy 7 location this week, and see...
They were pretty expensive the last time I checked the Hwy 7 location (by the Michael Angelo's food store). All the HD stuff was in a rack fairly close to the checkout counter.....

So which aisle and booth number do you usually go to (at the Pickering Flea Market)?
space2001 03-13-07, 01:06 PM yah I stopped shopping from dvd-wave a while ago. They should start getting more competitive with there prices and maybe I will go back but they are just way to expensive.
